Skyrim sells 3.4 million copies in 2 days

HOLY SHIT...........................

More than 3.4 million copies of Skyrim were sold at retail in the first two days of the game’s release, according to VGCharts. Those numbers are on a par with Battlefield 3 and exceed perennial best seller FIFA, with only Modern Warfare 3 outselling Bethesda’s RPG. It’s a 600% increase in sales on Oblivion’s modest 490k opening.

While only 14% of those copies sold were on PC, those figures don’t include digital download numbers, which are sure to be substantial considering the enormous numbers of people playing Skyrim on Steam.

usually when it comes to games that are simply violent the age is 15+. when the rating is 18+ or mature, they usually involve various adult themes and i think you just trust the rating most of the time

so according to a few sites responding to "is skyrim violent" the answer appears to be somewhat.
a friend just told me that elder scrolls, which is the one he rented after succeeding at school today, has a lot construction and that the violence and graphics related to violence are ok.

one of the sites says that it is less violent than mw (that is modern warfare, right?), but that doesn't mean much to me because he can't play that game.

basically for me as a parent: if it involves creating or constructing, has minimal violence (as in the focus of the game is NOT to kill, regardless of what is being killed) and isn't overly graphic then i am ok with it. from what i have read, and been told by the only person i know who has played the game, it seems to be ok.

i would still welcome any clarifications from members, should you care to weigh in. :) thank you.

gaaira, are you saying that you think it is inappropriate then? i am speaking of skyrim.
he doesn't play god of war or gta or call of duty. i would prefer he not play video games at all, to be honest, but he is a gamer. i also don't necessarily agree that just because it is 18+ means it shouldn't be played by anyone under that age..my main concern is the degree of violence within a game, whether the focus is destruction or construction or what the ratio of the two within the game is and what is in the scenery. he has halo, his dad was ok with this. i have to rely on him somewhat, as i don't play video games, but i certainly trust that he isn't going to let him play something disgusting (from what i have heard gta is disgusting.).

anyway, back to my original question. i am not sure if your answer was the first line of your response (rating m), or not.

anyone else want to weigh in? i am honestly looking to know from people who play it whether or not it is high in violence and destruction.
thank you.

Didn't know whether to post this in here or the other forum on Skyrim, but ah well. Basically this has caused rumours to fly around the net as to possible Skyrim DLC. I for one, believe that this does have some signifance and may be a clue as to what Dlc will be and where it will be set. Another rumour is that they may just continue with massive DLC and stop making games. Who knows, but regardless, it is interesting to speculate.

[www.geek.com] you remember when gamers started playing Rage and discovered the Easter eggs from earlier id games? They included areas from Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake and went down well with long-time id Software fans.

It seems Bethesda had a similar idea, but not in the form of an Easter egg, and on a much larger scale than Rage’s room and level hidden gems. Either for fun or profit, the Skyrim team has included the environments for both Morrowind and Cyrodiil in an inaccessible part of the world.

The location was discovered by 19-year-old Jesse from Finland who posted his findings on his PPSh-41 Tumblr blog. The area is inaccessible unless you use console commands (No-clip) to bypass the collision block Bethesda put across an otherwise open archway. You can see the archway below:

Its location is in the most south-eastern area of the Skyrim map called Stendarr’s Beacon. Travel north east of the Beacon and you will locate a path between two mountains that leads to the archway above.

Traveling through the archway presents the player with foliage that starts to decrease the further you venture into the unknown territory. Jesse started looking around for anything recognizable and realized he could see Red Mountain in Vvardenfell, which is a part of Morrowind. Further investigation found that the landmass for all of Morrowind and Cyrodiil are present, if unfinished.

The question to ask now is why are these locations present? The fact they can’t be traveled to in-game means Bethesda could be planning to open them up in the future, or they were test areas when Skyrim was being created and the level designers needed some practice with the tools.

I’m sure gamers are hoping Bethesda has plans for these areas and some big DLC content is coming our way that includes them. It seems a bit of a waste otherwise to have included so much additional landmass, doesn’t it?

I think you'll find id made Rage. Bethesda was just the publisher in that case.

Regardless of how I feel about consoles in general, I do agree it is pretty shitty for a company to release a broken-ass port of an otherwise terrific game. My gut reaction is they released an unfinished game for the PS3 just to meet a deadline, perhaps hoping to hotfix the issues before anyone took serious notice.

PC figures will always be meaningless until Steam's factored in...
Does anyone know if they factor in sales from online retailers such as Amazon and Play yet? I remember it not being the case a few years ago.
:edit: It's nice to see a decent game doing so well, though. As opposed to a Call of Duty.
