Old Games and Consoles

What good old games do you remember?

I'd say:
- Heretic
- Lotus
- Dyna Blaster
- Alpha Centauri
- Jagged Alliance (series)
- Freelancer
- Quake
- Doom
- Unreal
Commodore 64. I played the game before I watched the movie, actually. A bunch of fun mini-games that followed the movie chronologically and had a bunch of dialog from it.

SimAnt for the Mac. I had so much fun with this sim I sent a list of suggestions for ideas for a sequel to Maxis. Instead they came out with SimTower. Roaches weren't what I had in mind.

Super Return of the Jedi was owned by a number of friends of mine, and since I didn't have an SNES I played it whenever I hung out. To be honest the boss fights were less fun than just running around shooting stuff or hacking at things with the light saber. Good sound effects. Also, was it just me or was Wicket scratching his balls every few seconds he had screen time?

The classic tool-use puzzle game. Had some really wacky sequels, as well as some lesser-known spinoffs like Timekeepers for the Amiga.

TetriNET, for the PC, was one of the most addictive competitive multiplayer games I played in high school. You could accumulate special blocks that allowed you to randomly clear blocks when your opponent was lining up a 4-piece, or nuke your screen when it got too close to the top.

Great older games I remember,

Risk and Axis & Allies, two amazing strategy board games that were translated very well into PC games by Hasbro back in the 90’s. I still have and play both.

Sonic was a great franchise for the Sega Genesis. Sonic 2 was my favorite.

Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 came out in 2000 for PC (I think). It is ageing, but another one that I still play regularly.

Oregon Trail, my introduction to computer gaming. And my introduction to dying of dysentery.

Zero Tolerance for the Sega Genesis (1994). This was the first FPS shooter I ever played.

I thought it was just the one guy who created all the animations/entity sprites for both Ecco games? Still, that's pretty damn cool. I particularly love the background for The Machine.

anyone here remember GT2 and GTA2?

it seems yesterday, Rockstar Games is giving away GTA and GTA2 as free downloadable PC games.

anyway, GT2 was my first game on the PSone, really nostalgic. The graphics were 2D, it seemed pretty real and the cars not so much. Although eventually onward, graphics in gaming would change, so when I play GT5, I remain surprised by how much technology has changed, especially when playing online, the graphics remain the same and so are more features to this game than it's earlier releases over the last ten years or so.

Anyone here played the SNES as their very first videogame console? (cartridges were used as loadable 'CDs' at the time)

In regards to classic gaming...I just wish they'd make more *traditional* 2d marios and zelda games for consoles. I'd love another 8 or 16 bit styled mario game.

ha so in my house we own a wii, ps2 and ps1 and usually my siblings are always on the wii so I never get to play it. and because of that I rediscovered my playstation! haha so I wanted to play some video games and went to my basement and stared at all my ps2 games and I realized I have no interested in most of them any more except for guitar hero and final fantasy 12. so i was like oh fuck what am i gonna do now?!
Then I saw it! The playstation one game cases! I ran over and looked at all my Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the dragon games. So for the past 3 weeks I've been going through these games and beating them =)
Right now I am playing Crash Team Racing. So better than Mario Kart Wii... well that does have a cool steering wheel....

hello everyone,

i create this topic for all the nostalgics of the old times.
that's not a question of snobbery but that's was the great time ! in fact, we're only pleased by a game when a midi song smash our tympanums and when one rose pixels was for the head and one brown was for the body.
to be more general : this is a topic for people who regret the (very) old time of the nes, snes, master system, megadrive, neo geo, game boy b&w, wonderswan, etc.,... to the playstation, nintendo 64 and sega saturn (remember, the old black brick who made a lot of noise to work) era. i know there is a big jump in time between nes and playstation for exemple, but see the 32 bits era of this threat for all the sequels and legacy that the 32-bits generation received from the older.
new gamer, old gamer, curious ? you just have a passion for old stuffs ? perfect.

come to talk about an old game you (re-)discover recently, your favourite old games or just by nostalgia of the old time (and to show at all this kids that you know a lot of things that they never even suspect the existence and at your time, you know how to enjoy a real video game ! little rats !)

You're right, Tmeister.

For consoles I don't know, I don't own any of the consoles of this last generation, but for PC, specially the first person shooters, games are getting shorter. A new game with seven / eight hours of game play - excluding the online - costs $50. Very expensive for so little.... But on the other side you got RPGs like Final Fantasy, which cost $50 and deserve all the money invested - at least until the X -, because you can play them for one year, if you want it. RPGs take a lot of time to develop the characters to the max and catch all the items.
