The Balkans Invasion

a thread for anyone and anything that has to do with everything balkanic. now, there's a quite a number of us, slovenians, over at ETS but i'm hoping this will also be a stop-by for all croatians, serbs, bosnians, macedonians, albanians, greeks, bulgarians, romanians and some of the turks as well.

probably because we lack of real NIN shows in our area. show some support!

Hey Per?i, I ordered one via TOIOU too but hoped there would be a simpler way. You know, to avoid possible problems with customs and such. Besides, I'm hoping to find some perfectionist who will burn a dvd with printable label and maybe print the sleeves and booklet on quality paper too. :D And thanks, I already have the Milano dvd, grabbed it from Dimeadozen the minute they put it on. I attended the Rome concert after the one in Milan, and it was great, eccept for me feeling like the oldest (though good looking, lol) member of the public. And they played mostly songs that we didn't get to hear in Milan, which was cool too ;)

On a slightly less related note, i managed to grab the Milan show video bootleg. Lots of zooming in/out and some out of focus shots, but overall quite watchable dvd. In case you're interested...

RIP Humar.

For non-natives, one of famous Slovenian alpinists was found dead in Nepal during one of his solo climbs. He was last heard on Monday saying he probably broke his leg and ribs, there were reports of damaged spine. Either way, they found his body today some hundred meters lower than was searched. What happened, no one knows.

My opinion: it is tragic event. However, i'm not fan of (extreme) climbing and the upper saying (roughly translated as "Mountain ain't crazy; crazy he who climbs the mountain" ) kind of explains my view.

Well, as i said, the company he works for is reliable and -as for costs- they're in normal range. Because everyone i talked to (maybe i talked to the wrong people?), said we could get much cheaper deal but 400€ (+200€ to fix the wall) was way way way too much for what it's supposed to be done. It's like charging 35€ for chewing gums when you know the cost nowhere near 4€ maximum >:] That said, there can be a thin line between "pay more for job better done" and being simply ripped off.

LOL...
There's an old saying: "I'm not rich enough to buy cheap shit".
Seems like this goes for plumbers as well :D

That's the good part in my situation: my plumber is my father-in-law, so if he fucks something up, he'll also fix it, and fast (especially since he's the one living one floor lower, so if the pipes start leaking, it'll be his appartment that will be flooded).

The car runs fine. Had a minor thing going on when accelerating and turning left at the same time (the engine started whining hard), but I had a mechanic check it out and he discovered that the engine holder was a bit worn, some rubber there was pretty messed up and there was lots of friction of metal on metal. The mechanic changed the engine holder, cost me 35 euros, and the car purs like a kitteH now.
It's a 16V 1.6 machine btw, 107HP (no, that's not 'HealthPoints' you gamer freaks) and has one hell of an acceleration. Apart from a few minor scratches and a missing headrest for the middle back seat it has no flaws...
It'll be averagely thirsty, it appears: about 7.5 litres per 100km. I'm gonna drive it cost-efficiently, so hopefully this number will get lower.
Oh, and I also bought a new car stereo. The old one was with a cassette player, so I switched to CD+MP3. Woo!

Floor concrete estrih guys from all over Slovenia now have an email to answer. Building is hard work, but there are some definite results going on!

Oh yeah, while i had a pooptime, i remembered i forgot to ask you about car specs but i see you thought transmission works fairly well, even if delayed. But, i hear ya man, new flat > life. Just got some time off from all the workers, buying/installing/fixing new stuff and just when you think you solved one case, another one just pops up. Case of plumbfail:
- waterdrainexitthing was not set at the right part of the kitchen when we bought cabinets even we were told differently.
- that was fixed by this plumber (his price was 95€ against about 400€ from other plumbers who checked out the situation and put the price on their work) but we had to buy different water boiler than planned.
- we fixed that and the water began leaking from a few places incl. pipe. dishwasher wouldn't output water.
- dishwasher guy came and fixed the shit plumber fucked up.
- pipe man came and fixed the pipe but the water was still leaking under. he said it's something plumber fucked up.
- the plumber came, fixed that (though he was at the door about to leave, we opened the water, it started leaking again so he got back), now it appears somewhere in the drain, something holds the water to flow smoothly. plus, the pipe takes shitload of time to actually stop working.
- waiting for another plumber and the pipe guy to check on things.
Not to mention that the plumber (eventhough he works for pretty good company) ignores to answer phone, does his job VERY sloppy, has no sense of time ("I'll be back in about an hour" took up to 6 hours, "I'm going to get this replacement thing in my car, brb" at 10am turned into coming back next day saying he forgot about it etc.). Now, he did this crap and he's going to fix it, we're not paying anyone else to fix his fuckups.

But this is just one of the things going funny around here. There are still small problems with central heating (though it's turned on and all) and screws for the wardrobe doors (which are too small and i have no idea how they're supposed to hold the door up, lol). But all-in-all, it's nothing we can't handle B)-
Come to think, it must be what our parents had to deal with when we were kids but we were just too young and careless to actually give a fuck about :D

PS - JENSEN BUTTON FUCK YEAH!

Update time from me as well:

I haven't moved... yet... still in Ljubljana. Currently, the plan is to move to Dolenjska late December. By then, our appartment will be close to finished, and it'll be nice to be there to do this and that around the house.

This week the windows are coming in and in the next 2 weeks we'll have the floor heating installed. As soon as the floor plate (estrih) is in, we'll start with the roof insulation. Plumbing and electricity are both more or less set.

We've bought the kitchen machinery (oven, freezer, fridge, dishwasher etc) and the floor laminates, and everything for the bathroom.
Best case scenario: the appartment will be ready for living in late winter/early spring.
We'll stay one floor lower with my in-laws for a month or two from January on, so we don't have to pay for the Ljubljana rent.

Oh, and we're mobile now - Renault Scenic '99, blueish-green color, low mileage, great condition. Lots of space in that baby, so we'll definitely have to start planning some offspring soon...

As for meets, we'll see. This next month, till we set up the roof insulation, will be pretty packed. We need to do a lot of stuff before the real winter chill kicks in (so the plumbing doesn't freeze), so spare time won't be something I'll have plenty of.

After November is over, hopefully things will cool down a bit.

Hi everybody, and I'm off searching for floor concrete contractors...

Update time. It appears that when me and isht moved, news in this thread got slow. Let's see how much we can update at once.

The apartment looks more like an apartment and less like a warehouse. Couch still needs to be bought and with car being away (tehni?ni pregled :/ ) and other thing being in the way.. but fuck it. It is a plce we can live in, we can make food, we can sleep, shit, shower and have space to put our clothes.
In the free time, i'm trying to work on a website for company i used to work for.

acerchiata - happy VERY late birthday :*** as for laptop, if you haven't gotten one, as long as it Cure Duo, at least 2GB of RAM, about 320GB of hard drive, cd/dvd combo (even better if it's blu-ray player/dvd writer combo), you're fine. 15,4 incher would be probably too small of a monitor size for me but if you really only need it for mostly school work, you have nothing to worry about.
Comshop is not the cheapest of them all, but you'll get the picture of price range.

irenne - got new job yet? Also, i hope you watched the Closure DVD, not the VHS one. The difference is in picture quality and about 90 minutes of additional footage. Also, if you need to kill time, there are still five hours of "Making of Closer video" out there. I have yet to watch it myself.

Hey Keyro, as far as i know, ishtmail works in Ljubljana and sisterdew aka tinkerbell is still going to college. Other than that, we're from all around the country and usually meet here or there. And while on this topic, i suppose i agree with ishtmail's text message saying about thinking of doing another small one-day meet. With coffee and such, though i'd prefer lunch/dinner. I'll be in the city most likely next sunday (not yet 100% sure), but things are more certain as soon as i get my car back.

Hello there!

Being a NIN fan and not being active on the forums doesn't go hand in hand, so I thought I'd drop by and say a few words (and ask some things). Let me start by saying I've never actually been close to a NIN concert, even though the urge to do so was big. But finances... they never really work out, so all I can afford for now are the records, some memorabilia that others have brought me (T-shirts and all that kind of stuff). For now. Eitherway, I was wondering how many of you live in the vicinity of Ljubljana, and would be perhaps up for a little meet-up. Coffee and such. If you're up for anything, send me a PM and i will be very happy to reply :)

hey there i'm "some of the turks." ;) from istanbul but right now living in paris so had a chance to see him live both in paris and then in istanbul (10 days later)... it sorta sucked in istanbul because they stayed on stage for an hour only due to the music festival as paris was more fulfilling for me (around 3 hours).

who knows when & where to see NIN ever again but it was great to see Reznor up close and hear him live in bloody beautiful istanbul finally.

Now that I'm done staring at the sad, sad photo of 'the end' at the home page of this site!
I'm looking for a new job, because the one I had wouldn't take me anywhere from now on, financialy. What else...I saw Closure, the documentary, the other day, really loved it!

Wave ... waves ... so the summer here is almost over, for me at least, haven't seen the sea, apart from those trips to SA and BU my vacation time is running out, now. By running I mean wake up at 5.30, upload the van, go to LJ, unpack things, go back to NG, pack new boxes, drive them to the new "postal address", pack and unpack, clean afterwards and arrange all the work that still needs to be done, like change of a toilet seat, installing the lights, throw another toilet out to make room for a dryer machine, repair the demage of water leak, discuss with the construction company over the reclaims that have been made, even if there was a guarantee for 5 years, now nobody wants to take the responsibility for broken things although I haven't touched them since I've bought the place.

anyway ... these are the last days that i still have the plug on ... for my PC and the internet. In the next days I'm driving it to SA and on the end of this month I should be settled there.
Tomorrow I'm looking for a new laptop, so if you have any suggestions which one is relatively good priced for a good quality for constant use (school work - thinking 15.4")... just write it down.

All well?!

Yeah, have to say ... long time passed, this week I'm finishing the last hours of work in the office, even if I'm officially on the leave.
Now that I helped my parents move, I'm packing my things into boxes and Je***, how much stuff do I need! and have! and have to get rid off!
Man! moving sucks.

Now since the tour is almost wrapped ...
I would like to say thanks for the company, the travel, Budapest hostel search, the concert experience, the meeting, getting to know all of you, well some (Zeljko - so Amsterdam eh?), the morning mocha coffee, a ride back, the sleepover, good time my friends.
I'm not gonna lost myself, just need some change in my life, going back to university at this age is a bit frigtening, but i guess nothing unusual in the west world.

Wave goodbye ... so we can see each other soon.

Update on my appartment:

We just finished the wooden construction for the gallery. Everything is ready for the electricity and plumbing installation to begin, and we've ordered new windows. In october or november we'll install the floor heating... So, everything is on track and we might actually make the April deadline that we set for ourselves...

Other than that, I'm wasting a ton of time with Fallout 3 and its addons... God, this game is awesome!

I know you're not interested in but i plan to keep this thread on page 1 so here's a little update from what's going on in new apartment so far:
- the balcony is awesome for chillaxin' even during heavy rainstorms.
- the hot water is on. At last.
- the fridge is superquiet.
- the washing machine (LG) came with Slovenian and English readmes but the text on the machine itself is German. Also, when it works, it flash-lights like your average NIN Wave Goodbye European show. Other than that, it does its job well.
- Counter-Strike offline mode with 20 bots on difficulty level 3 = time well killed.

How's everyone else?
