What's everybody's take on this program? I'm considering on saving up for a MacBook just so I can get this program and start recording. Anyone have any experience with the program?

I JUST FUCKING GOT LOGIC!!! I'M SO GODDAMN EXCITED!!!!!!! THAT'S MY FUCKING HOLIDAY GIFT, ALONG WITH AN AXIOM-61 KEY CONTROLLER!!!

MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!!

Seriously though, I've begun to play around and read the manuals . . . Downloaded the Digidesign Core-Audio Drivers to make Logic recognize my M-Box 2 as an interface, tested getting audio to and fro, works fine!!! Tried out the on board synths and stuff, me likey!!!!

Going into creating my next album, and Logic will probably be my main platform, switching from Pro Tools is going to be awkward, like dumping an ex girlfriend that's been faithful to you, but you've decided to cheat on her, hehe. But it's the right choice I think.

Or you could just get a Lynda account for 30 bucks a month, and learn pretty much anything you need to get started with logic and then some.

not to mention that they cover almost every other kind of creative software from photoshop to reason to dreamweaver to... everything really.

www.Lynda.com

and to answer the earlier question about whether or not the Native synths and instruments are any good...

By default I usually scoff at using built in synths. And Im usually always on a quest to find the wierdest sounding synth plugins that no ones ever heard of... But recently I was on a train ride for 6 hours and a I had an idea in my head for a track, and I had just re imaged my macbook pro hard drive but hadnt had an opportunity to install all of my plugins. So I decided that I'd have to settle for the native synths that come prepackaged with Logic... I was pleasantly suprised at how REAL they actually sound and how much control I have over molding my sound. Not to mention that some of the presets sound fecking amazing. and all i had to do was add a little reverb or compression to get a nice sounding instrument.

I fall in love with Logic more and more everyday.

BTW best mobile studio... Iphone with beatmaker / idrum and bloom combined with a macbook pro running logic. Throw in a good set of cans (headphones) and you can make that 6 hours train ride fly by in no time. leaving you wishing you had more time to waste...

Has anyone every considered the potential usefulness for the ability to randomize Logic Automated parameters in real time?

For example, I might have an audio track looped over a couple of measures that includes some brand of Reverb, Distortion, and Phaser, but for the same of experimentation, I might desire to toy with parameters for each of these plugins as I play, and I might be unable to do so on each of these plugins while I'm playing.

In that case, I might want to be able to specify some sort of randomization for each parameter in each plugin so I can hear the sound develop spontaneously as I play. Maybe you could potentially load hundreds of plugins up and have this plugins randomly alter their parameters or turn them off and on altogether. There could be methods provided for setting up thresholds of weighted probabilities on plugin parameters, and even "varying weights" based on timing, so you could easily expect (for instance) when your predefined "random measures" settings are about to occur in real time. There could be some sort of quick-action triggered locking ability for stopping parameter randomization whenever a particularly desirable arrangement is discovered.

Personally, I've often been frustrated with having to deal with loads of plugin parameters take-after-take, and I think having the machine dynamically alter these settings on the fly could be a great way to discover new sounds very quickly.

Has anyone else ever considered this? Does anyone know of any third-party implementation out there that does this sort of thing already? Would anyone else be wiling to pay a reasonable amount for that functionality?

Im running Logic Studio on a macbook(admittedly with 4 gig of ram) it is a 2Ghz Dual Core Processor.. Runs quite nicely its only when i have like about 15 simultaneous tracks running that i notice any load on the processor....

It just feels right for me as well. I find i can customise what i want and just really enjoy making music with this program

ITS AWESOME!!!

I switched to Logic Pro 8 this year from running Cubase and Sonar on my windows machine...

Switching to Logic was the best decision i made musically i think, it's just the smoothest DAW i've ever worked with. And the interface is easy on the eyes which helps out so much. I've never used pro tools however so i cannot comment.

I'm considering on saving up for a MacBook just so I can get this program and start recording. Anyone have any experience with the program?

An inescapable truth is that there are 3 kings in Software DAW right now, and those are

-PRO TOOLS
-LOGIC STUDIO
-CUBASE

Pro Tools is the top in terms of what everyone who works on audio in a professional studio uses . .
In terms of functionality, to me, it's kind of a toss up. All can do certain things, and mainly run certain plug-ins that the other can't. All have pros and cons that the other can fullfill.

Logic is a great DAW; I run Pro Tools. TRENT RUNS BOTH, which would be the ideal way to work I think . . . Wherever one falls short or makes you mad, the other might fill in the holes . .

This also all depends on what you're trying to do . . . Hope this helps . .

great post, dude :)

you covered it all. my friend worked with logic lately and criticized it in terms of cutting the music. he preffers cubase SX3, which I personally don´t like.

my band uses pro tools for demos and running live stuff from machine and it works well, also it is quite affordable IMO now.

Dude, not at all. What I love about Logic is that you can do thinks as simply or as complexly as you want to. It's not hard to navigate.

I'd look into getting Native Instruments Guitar Rig, which you can use as a plug-in for Logic. I know Trent's used it.

Really all I have is the Mac with Logic, a condenser and pre-amp, a guitar and interface, and a MIDI keyboard. That's by and large the extent of my gear for making sweet music.
