Calling all certified Gym Rats and Workout Junkies!

Post away about your weight loss successes, exercise likes/dislikes, daily routines, new supplements and vitamins, and anything else workout-related!

Myself, when I'm on top of my game, I will do 4-5 days of cardio (mainly on my Elliptical and playing tennis, but I do mix it up with some rollerblading and kickboxing occasionally), and 3-4 days of weight training, plus abdominal work.

I have a vague idea of the navy blue stuff haha. And I would have a hard time doing any of these myself. I'm around 145lbs and not currently the body builder type lol. Did some pushups and planks last night, 60 pushups rest, 6minute plank rest, 1min plank 30 pushups 1 min plank 30 pushups all together. I like planks just to see how long I can hold it, and pushups just to see how many I can do at once.

Black: Completed a marathon run (26.2 miles)

I wouldn't say that any of these accomplishments are mind blowingly extraordinary by themselves but the fact that Pops was able to be so well rounded that he achieved all of this within about a year.. ::o
Hell, I have a hard time even having anything left for the Olympic lifts after training the Powerlifts.. forget about running. Im about to give myself about a month break from the Powerlifts just so I can add a little bit of running into Olympic lift training. I shouldn't have a problem earning the right to try that Navy blue shirt on but I doubt I ever have or will come close to the other two.
Then again, I'm going at this about 10 years later in life than Pops did with less than optimal hormonal levels. ;)

^You must eat a chit ton to maintain your weight with that training.

I'm up quite a few lbs myself.. Based on my projections, 42 lbs in 2 years (measured in late May). I'm down from 197 at the beginning of March to my current weight of 188.. I've got 2 weeks to lose 1 more lb to wrap up this cut.. Then it's back to maintainance/really slow bulking after I hit da beach! :D

Got some pretty awesome history yesterday..

My father dug these out and decided to pass them down to me for my birthday. These shirts were made for him at the time of the accomplishment in 1972 while he was stationed at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Ohio (renamaed Rickenbacker Air Force Base in 1974). His timing was pretty darned cool, as I just achieved my first multi-training day 1,000 lb Powerlifting total 12 days ago.

These 41 year old shirts are shrunken and brittle but you know I had to wear this one, even if only for a few minutes. Thanks Pops.

I strongly reccomend you get some videos of your self deadlifting. I find videos EXTREMELY valuable. It allows you to see what you are doing without getting yourself out of position by looking in a mirror (never use mirrors.. ever). You are able to get angles that you can't see in a mirror either. It also gives you something to analayze later on and even to compare from one workout to the next. If you'd like, I'd be glad to look over your vids, as well. Feel free to post them here or send them to me a pm if you'd prefer.

Hey Blood, well I have an injured lower back I literally don't have a disc at L4 and L5. So this makes abbs really hard for me to target, my day job involves lots of sitting. My trainer had me practice my brace hold or plank hold most of last year until I could hold it for 2+ mins whilst keeping my hips tucked in tight. This probably makes no sense but his reason was to build up some tummy strength and keep my back safe. Now he does other things with me like having me hang from the rings and lift my knees up to my chest. He has to help me though I am still not yet strong enough to get the full range on my own. The rings help with stretching out my back too. He has a few other movements that he hopes will strengthen my upper abbs, which are very weak, oblique and pelvic floor honestly some of the things he gets me to do look so simple but they are incredibly hard to get right.
I can't do a crunch or a full sit up and if I did I'd be using my hip flexors instead of my stomach. My core is much stronger than when I first started working with him, I just want to improve the look of my stomach I guess as well as getting it super strong to protect my back, it's never been the same since I had kids.
If you have any advice I am always happy to take it on.

Oh I did do CX works (a Les Mills class) but found I was mostly using my hip flexors to get most of the moves. Yoga is good for all over core strength and the stretching is good too.
And those are some impressive numbers, you should be proud :)
I have done nothing but drink and eat this weekend, need to pull a big session in the gym tomorrow, and follow it up with a dance class or hot yoga session.

Thanks Hank and Coles!

Coles, if you don't mind me asking.. what is your approach for attaing abs? I have some opinions on the topic but don't want to just offer unsolicited advice and come off as an ass hat.
So...
Today I just wrapped up the strength cycle from hell. All of my focus for the last few months has been on perfecting my lifts and adding lbs to them.. getting strong. In order to do this, I had to add lbs to myself as well. With physique season around the bend, it's time to get on damage control and clean up a little bit of fat. Even though I'm used to multiple PR's per week (or even per workout), cutting often stalls progress so many of the following will stand for awhile.

Since I've never even written these down all at the same time, here are some of my best/proudest lifts/exercises to date (in lbs):

Standing Overhead Press (strict)- 165
Push Press- 195 (101% of bodyweight)

100% raw Conventional Deadlift (double overhand grip)- 405
belted Conventional Deadlift (double overhand grip)- 425
belted Sumo Deadlift (double overhand grip)- 435

Bench Press with 1.5 second pause on chest- 225
Bench Press touch and go (not bounced)- 240
Max Bench reps with 135- 23
Max Bench reps with 225- 2

High-Bar A2G Back Squat- 300
Front Squat with 1.5 second pause in the hole- 275

Clean- 230
Power Clean- 210
Clean and Jerk- 185 (not accurate.. outdated.. need to restest)
Power Snatch- 115 (not accurate.. outdated.. need to retest)

Max bodyweight/190 Pull-Up reps (strict)- 11
Barbell Hack Squat (from a 2 inch defecit)- 3 sets of 10 reps with 205
Weighted Plank- +100 lbs for a minute and a half
Unilateral Dumbell Row- 100 lbs for 21 reps (per side)

Farmer's Walks are awesome! That's one of my favorite exercises but I haven't been able to do them since it's too cold to get out in the driveway (garage gym'er here). Seriously underrated exercise.
Using DB's will definitely increase your hold grip (finger strength). If you find that you have a weakness in your pinch grip (thumb strength.. I know I do) try occasionally rotating in some Farmer's Walks where you pinch grip a flat plate.. You can get alot of work with a surprisingly small load on the pinch grips.

Good job Blood, I have been on a 12 week cardio challenge with my goal being to be able to run faster for longer, and to build endurance and staminar. I met all all my fitness goals and trimmed up a fair bit, kinda like shrink wrapping my skin around my muscles. Really intense cardio sessions and hot yoga, were how I managed it.

My trainer got me back to power movements this week, and I always think you Blood when I dead lift and your grip strength, I was lifting 100lb and had to go with an over under grip, my trainer said don't feel so bad these bars are made to suit much bigger hands than yours. He gets me to do a farmer walk holding a 44lb dumbbell in each hand and walking until I am about to drop them to help build up my grip.<That shit is hard>

Haven't set goals for next year yet. (Flexibility) probably will factor in.
