Also, in 'Meet Your Master', my friend and I always thought it was "God damn Juilan, gonna make you cum faster." To this day, if I sing along in my head with those words, I hear it.

B13 posted:

fleighing posted:
I was a pathology resident on the first day of my rotation at the morgue. The Chief medical Examiner was conducting rounds, and I was a bit nervous because it was the field I wanted to practice and I wanted to make a good first impression. Second body we look at was a motor vehicle accident victim, and there was an open head wound with a broken CD sticking out of the brain. Chief said to the group, "what's this, and what is its significance?" I immediately said the disk is the Downward Spiral by NIN, recognizable by its artwork, and it essentially brought *industrial* music into the mainstream and its a fucking masterpiece. Dead silence in the room, as everyone looked at me. Cue crickets. I then said, oh and its a laceration on the back of the head from an open skull fracture, indicating that the decedent was a rear sear unbelted passenger who was propelled forward when the car he was riding in was struck from behind at a high rate of speed, and his head was ultimately stopped when it struck the CD player in the dash. The Chief then looked at the cop who was investigating the accident, and he said "yup, that's 100% correct". The Chief then asked my name and said I'm gonna have a bright future in forensics.

Same thing was with a friend of mine. For months whenever it came up during a discussion he always said it was originally a Cash song.
So this happened this morning...

I'm on holidays from university at the moment and my mum's car is at the mechanic, so I offered to drive her to work today. Being the absent-minded person I am, I forgot I had been listening to NIN the last time I drove the car (Broken, in particular). Now, I have one of those awesome/shit (depending on the situation) CD players which will pick up exactly where it left off, even if it was in the middle of a song. So, I start the car with mum setting next to me in the passenger's seat and what comes out through the speakers?

"...hard line, bad luck, fist fuck."

I shout "FUCK!" and quickly scramble to turn off the CD player. I turn to my mum and say "er...sorry about that". She just kinda blinks and says calmly "I don't mind listening to Nine Inch Nails since it's your car, Andrew, but perhaps not at 8am and perhaps not that particular song."

All I can really think of for me is that I went to my first NIN concert in 2007 after hearing YZ (and hadn't heard any of the other albums yet...yes I'm one of those "noob" fans) with a much more experienced NIN fan. I had to spend almost the entire concert asking her "what's this song?". The other people around me just giggled most of the time, especially when one asked "do you even like NIN?" and I replied "well I do now"

This incident has become legend at my office, and the day I signed my contract to stay on staff the Chief presented me with a framed copy of the autopsy photo of the CD. I would have had the band sign it at one of the meet and greets I attended this summer, but I didn't want to lug it around AND I didn't want to creep them out by a CD with brains on it.

My first tatoo was the NIN logo, which I got in the upper middle portion of my spine, around T1 - T2. Since it was my first, I got it kind of small, which turned out to be a great idea (as you'll see). I loved this tatoo, even though I had to strain to see it, and would proudly show it off to anyone willing to look. It wasn't untill two years later that I displayed it to another big Nine Inch Nails fan, and to my dismay the first thing he asked was, "Why are the N's facing the wrong way?" Horrified, I looked in the mirror again, and realised that the N's were, in fact, facing outward instead of inward. If I could have looked at it comfortably to study it, or if it was'nt always a mirrored image when I did see it, I probably would have picked up on it, but either way I was fucked.

I struggled to come up with a credible reason I would have gotten a typo tatoo, or some exscuse like the artist was terrible, but nothing changed the fact my precious tatoo was flawed. Not settling for less, I went to my tatoo guy to see what he could do as far as covering it up or somehow altering it to look right. He thought about it, and the only solution he could devise was to black out the entire rectangle, and make it the top part of a much bigger I in NIN. Naturally, I got the alteration.

A happy story in the end, because it was too small in the first place, and now it's not only appropriatly spread across my shoulders, but I've added alot more design and color to make it my own design. If I had'nt messed up the original, I probably would'nt have ever changed it, but now it looks way better.

Its been like this forever in Detroit. Our unemployment rate has been at an all-time high for many YEARS, long before the rest of the country caught up. In some ways, this means we are more used to it than other places, we have this defeated survivor mode. In other ways, it just adds to the tensions that have always been there. Hence why Detroit is the murder capital of the US, with currently a higher total number than even NYC (who has oh about 25 times the population) and with a current 70% non-conviction rate for homicides (yep, you read that right only 30% of murders gets a conviction according to the chief Prosecutor). Definitely NOT fun times here in the D.

Its just that, as much as I love Detroit for certain aspects of my job, the complete lack of respect and professional courtesy shown by the lawyers is truly appalling. The thing that burns my ass more than anything else is wasting my time, because I don't have that much of it left and I want to make the most of what I have.

You're lucky you even have a job in Detroit. The employment rate has gone to complete shit. I went back there for a family reunion last month and I couldn't believe some of stuff I saw. I mean, I got to see the nicer parts of eastern Michigan, but parts of the city just blew me away. Especially arriving at the airport. Going down the escalator I see this big-ass sign that invites people to join in on the "fun" at a nearby church. Unless I'm poorly mistaken, there really must be some serious cracked out praise-the-lord holy rollers in the midwest.

I also went to a car show along Gratiot. Here there was mostly white people and when a couple black people come walking through to look at the cars everyone else just walks away. I could feel that tension there. Where I live it's not like this. Everyone is cool with each other and it's like those boundaries don't even exist.

This isn't my own embarrassing story, but a friend's. Not really a story though.
Basically for the chorus of Closer, for the longest time, he thought Trent was singing "I wanna fuck you like an Elmo." About died laughing when he told me that.

Also, people asking about the lyrics in "A Warm Place", it's at the beginning of the song. If you wanna hear it, I recommend putting on some head phones and cranking the volume all the way up.

That is quite the story! Ha ha ha.

Most embarrassing NIN experience for me... I was at a Veteran's meeting with my dad (veteran) in this meeting were discussing A: remembering war veterans, and they did their cool introductions and moments of silence, etc. and B: the current policies and procedures that happen when bills get passed in Congress, and the effects of choices that we [and the government] are making now. Lots of veterans were there.

I drove my Dad and I there, and... well long story short: the meeting was very patriotic by its end, and we all felt very proud to be Americans (after talking for some length about countries without full freedom, and others without rights, we felt very glad to live here) and as my Dad and I got into my car to leave, I started up the engine and, without remembering what I was listening to, Capital G starts playing and TR's voice, ever so loud and clear began to declare, "I USED TO STAND FOR SOMETHING... NOW I'M ON MY HANDS AND KNEES..." I turned it down real quick after that, as anybody does when you hop in a car and its' too loud, but that only made it worse as the lyrics rang in my head and as I turned to my Dad, I saw a funny and strange expression on his face. Sort of blank and disgruntled, and I honestly didn't know what to say, then he laughed a bit and I finally laughed, relieved, and that was that.
Not the best story, but it was really funny at the time! B)
