It would be pretty hard for me to NOT wear a band shirt, as they make up more than 90% of my shirts (and I usually just wear what's clean/comfortable/at the end of my bed)
People can look as fabulous as they want, but you all come out of the pit with your top soaked, your hair messed, and makeup running down your face.

11/22/08 6:52 AM

bless me father for i have sinned, for whenever i purchase a shirt at a show i usually put it on. However i do not arrive with these things on me... will i still go to heaven?

11/22/08 7:40 AM

In the pit, I'd much rather stand behind someone wearing a NIN shirt than pointy angel wings or some other elaborate costume. winking smiley I really don't see why it matters, though. I like my NIN hoodies and I wear them everywhere I go. I don't see why I should have to change that just because I'm at the show.

11/22/08 9:39 AM

who cares! wear a NIN shirt and throw some damn corn starch on it!!!!!!

11/23/08 5:41 PM

Hm, I've never heard this. I've worn my NIN shirt to the past 2 shows, it seemed appropriate to me.

thats totally true. honestly, i would think fellow NIN fans would object the very concept of something being "ok" ... I agree its pretty lame seeing the 12 year old in the hot topic head to toe, only singing "Closer", but as for anything else- who the hell cares?

im going to see NIN in a few hours. and will likely buy a shirt AND wear it. why wait till next week? then in 5 years when its all faded, i can remember how the first time i wore it was seeing NIN for the last time.

ALSO, if youre going to focus on OTHER peoples CLOTHES at a NIN show. Maybe you should question how much of a fan YOU are.

Personally, I never wear the shirt of the band I'm going to see, and when I take my nephews to gigs I don't allow them too either, if they get a shirt they can wear it when we leave the gig, but not until then.

You mean the guy that buys a shirt to show they are supporting the band?

I'll wear mine, if Trent see's me with it on he'll know he got a few dollars of support from me.

It has nothing to do with being a poser, get over yourselves.

I'm down with wearing nin apparel. Just... for fuck's sake, really? Novelty nin shirts? "Mrs. Trent Reznor"? Give me a fucking break.

05/23/09 12:54 AM

i always wear nin shirts to concerts. be it every nin concert or other that i go to. i have over 40 nin shirts wich makes up 75 percent of my wardrobe. i could care less about what someone thinks about what im wearing. i enjoy the close comfort and softness they provide while im rocking my stuff out.

06/05/09 2:03 PM

All you "don't be that guy" people are hilarious. You are making decisions based on a line from a movie? Really?

That movie controls so much of your life that won't wear a shirt to a show. Hey that's your call, but i am laughing at every single on of you. So thank you for the cheap entertainment.

So under this logic, I shouldn't wear any team apparel when I go to a sporting event? God forbid I'm "that guy"!

Grow up and stop caring about what other people think of you. And please don't base your life on a movie.

I wear NIN shirt from last tour to current tour, then get new tour shirt.

I wore my lits t-shirt to wave goodbye..its called supporting the band, pluse it looks cool..NIN T-shirt at a NIN concert? OF COURSE!! I saw a LOT of NIN shirts being worn from different tours last wednesday in Mansfield. At the DCU center in worcester last year it seemed like EVERYONE was wearing a NIN t-shirt. I wear concert shirts outside too...sorry.

I don't wear the band's shirt that I'm going to see and nobody I know does either. Having half the venue wearing the same shit is somewhat boring to me, not to mention how sheepish they look(they sorta remind me of the mindless, obsessive boy band fan types). I have always enjoyed seeing all the different band shirts at a show anyway. Show some originality when you go to a show.

No. LOL! I saw a Lot of different NIN shirts...I have never been to a concert where "HALF" the venue? was wearing the same shirt??? I saw a lot of Janes addiction shirts too...this is a pointless topic. I personally could care less what anyone wears to a concert, I saw people dressed like vampires-so what? What IS "original" these days anyway??? If I wear a machinehead shirt to a NIN concerts is THAT origianl...really who gives a fck. LOL!!! It does not make you any more or less of a fan if you wear the bands shirt to their concerts..get it?

I don't see why anyone would care about something like this. I wear the shirts to shows for a couple of reasons.. one being that I don't have many other places to wear them (I have a professional job and the rest of the time I am running around doing mommy things) and the second being there is absolutely no other place for me to wear my "Starfucker" t-shirt.

06/07/09 5:41 PM

My buddy gave me a hard time and told me not to be "that guy" but I told him that I enjoy seeing everybody's different NIN shirts. There are so many of them at each show and every time I see one I've never seen before. I say be "that guy" and show off your sweet ass merch. That's why you bought it anyway.

06/08/09 6:22 PM

Interesting discussion. Personally, I don't care what people do. But I can sorta see in certain situations where I'd probably avoid wearing the shirt of the band I'm going to see. I think NIN doesn't really fall in that category.

Walking out of the Red Rocks show last year, I actually heard someone make a compliment about my shirt - the old PHM shirt, and it has a lot of miles on it. Sadly, I think I'm going to have to retire it after tomorrow's show, otherwise, it is going to fall apart.

If I saw someone wearing a tour shirt from the early 90s, I'd give the wearer some respect.

06/08/09 10:33 PM

Personally, I'm there to see the show. I could care less what everyone around me is wearing. I HAVE worn a NIN tee to a show but it was from the SPIRAL and frankly I'd do it again. Students wear school colors to games, fans wear team apparel to games, why not concert goers wearing concert tees? Makes sense to me.

there is always someone at every fucking rock concert wearing an iron maiden t-shirt, always.

I KNOW!lol

I didn't realize this was an issue (and why it is I don't know). Seriously, who cares what you wear or anyone else. Isn't it good to wear a bands shirt to show support? I would have thought. I wasn't aware there were rules on what to wear and not to a fucking rock concert. This whole thing sounds like it should be discussed at miley cyrus or jonas brothers concerts between a bunch of tween girls.

06/09/09 5:32 PM

I wore my 1991 Now I'm Nothing shirt to Holmdel. Never really thought about if it's "wrong or right" don't care to either. All that matters is what I think and I really fuckin LOVE that shirt!

06/09/09 7:20 PM

I'm fine with wearing a band's merch to the show. It may look like the uncool thing to do by the superfan's standards, but really doesn't it help you seem more like a superfan

1. Wearing a band's shirt says how I love this band even more than you do because I shelled out another $40 just for the shirt

2. Wearing a shirt from a past tour shows that you were potentially at a show other fans really wanted to be at, the older the better.

In all reality fans try too hard to wear something only kind of related to NIN, but not really. When going to a NIN show either wear a NIN shirt or a plain black t-shirt and everyone is happy

06/12/09 8:18 PM

If anybody going to an NIN show has T-shirts of other industrial bands, preferably those that are more obscure, then I would encourage him or her to wear one. I enjoy meeting new people at concerts who know a lot about good music, but it pains me to hear that most NIN fans don't know jack shit about industrial outside of NIN.

when you are comfortable with who you are and have belief in your own self/being as a whole, i imagine you will probably throw off the shell of any clique and not define yourself by rules or codes deemed appropriate by someone else's sense of; how to be cool, just like me-guide book..that's just my opinion..)

Nazis wore uniforms to their gatherings too. just sayin..............

Ok, Im more trying to be shocking or funny with that than serious, and Im late to this thread for sure, but I was raised in the late 80s going to my first shows that its lame and poseurish to wear a band shirt to their shows. Though having such a "code" can be a little lame too.
Whats worse is sitting there at a show judging everyone on what they are wearing.
I remember seeing some young punk/goth types at a NIN show bitching about everyone and how they looked and what they were wearing. Sorry, you missed the whole point of punk if youre doing that.
And trent wearing a shirt of his to his shows is a little different than a fan doing it. Somehow I doubt when he went to the My Bloody Valentine show recently in Los Angeles, I doubt he was sporting a My Bloody Valentine shirt.
But then I dont know the guy so who knows. For me, its kind of silly and over-fanatic.
Wont do it. But anyone else can do what they want. You wont find me there judging you. Im there to fucking enjoy a show.

ONE POINT TO CONSIDER:
I often wear New Model Army shirts cause they are one of my all time fav bands and I want to support them. One cool result is I get people that walk up to me at say a NIN show and they are like "WOW, another New Model Army fan..." and then we talk and make friends. If I was at a NIN show wearing a NIN shirt, I doubt anyones going to come up to me and say "WOW, I cant believe I ran into another NIN fan at this show"..
just sayin.

More importantly and brought up in this thread is the idea of wearing things with corporate logos. I dont buy or wear ANY clothes with obnonxious logos on it. Like youll NEVER catch me with an Abercrombie and Fuckface shirt on with some big logo plastered all over it. It always surprises me how many people seem lost on the fact that a big company, who GLADLY pays LOTS of money on their advertising all over the place, convinces young people (and old) that they will TAKE your hard earned money, and get so much FREE advertising out of you as long as you wear the shirt. So all of you that wear big corporate logos on clothes, you are PAYING them to advertise their stuff - the same companies that pay others handsomly to do advertising for them.

I support art on my clothes, bands and such. I wont wear a company logo unless its a company that is truly doing good things for the earth and the people on it. Thats the ONLY way someones going to get free advertising on my dime.

I tend to look down on those who wear t-shirts of the band they're seeing, at the concert. The exception to this is, of course, NIN, if for no other reason than the obvious: NIN has been around, and touring, for so long, that there are a shitton of different designs, and it's kinda neat to compare the different designs. smiling smiley
