The only decent photo I got from my 2MP Cellphone.
It is a huge shame that this, the first time NIN has played in New Zealand for 9 years looks likely to also be the last. I'll hold out hope that if NIN is going to "disappear for a while" then that could also mean we'll see you again in a while.

Not to get too greedy here... but with the announcement of the Jane's / NIN tour... any chance we could get Ghostland Observatory as an opening warm up act for the two of you?

thanks

I agree - that's a helluva shot from a camera phone!

Here's a couple of mine from the same gig. A full spread will be in next week's Groove Guide magazine.

I'm also waiting for my full set to be uploaded to the main NIN gig galleries from Flickr.

^^^ Those are some great photos.

Regarding the HD tour videos that NIN's been posting, I've been doing audio extractions, iPod versions, and the like of them. I've been posting them over at ETS, so keep an eye on this thread

I'll post this here now, but I'll only update ETS in the future.

For the new HD tour videos on nin.com, I've losslessly extracted the AAC audio tracks from the video files. These will work great on iTunes/iPod.

I've also created iPod/iPhone versions of the video files for those who were asking.

Finally, the original videos were at insane bitrates, causing huge file sizes. I've recompressed them for those that have limited drive space. There is negligible loss of quality, but they are a quarter of the original file size. Note, I've used some h.264 Main Profile options that apparently the QuickTime decoder sucks at. Use VLC (on both Mac and PC) for a smoother playback experience.

Was fortunate enough to have a photo pass as I shot the gig for a magazine.

quick question, i've read all the rules about cameras and called the venue (they said up to the artist, call day of show) and for me, this is a photo event of a lifetime, and they say no dslrs with changeable lenses. is there a reason for this that anyone knows of, or a way to get a dslr approved for use? since i couldn't afford pit~ i need some zoom!

03/27/09 5:36 AM

^^In order to bring in a DSLR, you need to get a photo pass. And if you have a photo pass you still cannot use the DSLR from your seat. You are only allowed to shoot from the area in front of the barrier during the 3 (approximately) so designated songs and then will have to either check your camera or remove it from the venue. If you want to try to get a pass, you need to write to NIN's PR firm in New York, Nasty Little Man, and present your credentials (i.e., who you are, what publication or Web site you are shooting for, etc.)

Lots of P&S cameras have long zoom capabilities. You may want to invest in one of those.

Yup - what Maryelle said. dSLRs i.e. any camera with an interchangeable lens is considered a "professional" camera, and therefore will likely be plucked from you by security before you get inside the main part of the venue.

03/29/09 8:21 PM

TR tweeted the other day that they are trying to see what is involved in getting an open camera & video policy going for this upcoming tour. I assume the "camera" part would refer to DSLRs.

Venues themselves sometimes have rules no matter what the band itself wants (House of Blues, for instance, can be very anti-camera--even P&S cameras) but hopefully this will work out and it will be possible to bring in decent equipment.

Now the next thing that would be really great is soundboard audio from each show... :-P hint hint!!

Great photos in this thread!
@TheBang, thank you for the audio extracts, I've been thinking about doing that myself. You don't happen to already have them in mp3, do you?

Just one that Mum took from further back in the crowd at the Brisbane show (21/2).

I've only put up two pictures so far, both of Jane's at Atlanta. Will have many more as time goes on, right up through Bonnaroo.

I've also put up a few more of Jane's. The Flickr set is here. Or view as a slideshow.

Here are mine from the Austin show over on Flickr (NINJA Austin 2009)

05/13/09 8:12 AM

Those are some deadly photos maryelle.

05/13/09 9:13 AM

^^Thanks so much! This photo policy this year has been fantastic.

I'll be putting my pictures up primarily on my own site; some are linked to Flickr but I may put up images on my site that aren't on Flickr at all. I'm not wild about the image galleries here because one, there is no comment notification; two, idiots go around giving shitty ratings just to make up for their personal inadequacies, if you get my drift; and three, the images are posted in the small versions. These bands deserve to be seen large.

Eight up so far, more as time goes on. I've only put up my Atlanta shots yet, none yet even that I got in West Palm or Tampa. So many good ones to choose from, especially of Jane's, who has the most beautiful lighting I think I've ever seen in any concert I've shot.

Site link here and the images & text will be updated regularly.

I think this is one of my best photos. Quality wise it could be a bit better, however I think it really captured the emotion.
The rest of my photos on flickr.

05/13/09 10:50 AM

^^I saw that one somewhere already and it's beautiful. Definitely captures a moment.

Being on stage right (that's the right side when you're on the stage looking out) is really good for Jane's but not so good for NIN: it's hard to get any decent shots of Trent. Too much stuff blocking him and every time he goes to the keyboard all you get is his back. He tends to face left slightly and when he raises his arm or bangs the tambourine, he blocks his whole face. When he moves back from the mic, the light stand blocks him. At least Robin makes a few trips down to Justin's end so it's possible to get a few shots of him although he was usually blocked too by Justin's keyboard & mic. I'll have to get on Robin's side for a show or two so I can at least try for some where Trent is actually in the shot and not covered with gear.

Maryelle, THANK YOU!!!!

Excellent photos. I hope you are attending more shows!

I have a request if the mods could clarify the thread title including NIN/JA 2009 or not, or start a new thread/sticky for it all together?

05/13/09 8:00 PM

My Austin NINJA photos.

I'll, hopefully, also be photographing NIN at Bonnaroo.

In case you hadn't seen them, my NIN photos from Lollapalooza 2008.

I've added 'Wave Goodbye' to the title. Pics/vids from JA, SSSC, and Mew are of course welcome!

I am, so there will be more. I have put a few more up on my site tonight too.

They're not necessarily in order; the new ones might be mixed in. I like the Dave/Perry one so much I'm leaving it at the top for a while.

I still have Tampa and West Palm to put up; so far it's just Atlanta. Thanks again!

Thanks, hopefully more people will re-post them from the previous shows thread.
