Roll Call: Tapers on NINJA 2009 Tour!

Over at the site we got like 20 tapers already signed up for dates on the east coast with either minidv, hi8, HD cameras or they are running audio. Would love to get a roll call of people who are *SERIOUS* about taping these shows. At RITC we are going to document this tour heavily and would love to know what sources we have out there so that if potentially we get something going with all of this (like a tracker, hint hint) will put it all in one place. Also we got a concert source guide going on. So will keep it up to date with all new shows and their setlists including the sources from each. So please if you are interested PM me here or go to the forums over there (its easy to register, just make a username and password no e-mail notifications) and let us know what you will be taping! PEACE!

Ryan J.

Hey guys. Finally I am checking in with something worth reading. (I guess) I just posted on the home page the excel file with all of the sources that I know about at this point in time. I am really excited to see this forming up. We have a lot of DPA and Schoep sources coming and a lot of people with HD Cameras which will make all of these gigs really awesome come editing time!!!!!

The only thing is if its possible to get your e-mail addresses for this excel file? It would help me out greatly if I could keep this as organized as possible. thanks everyone!!!!

NOTE: If you don't want your e-mail address open in this document. I will make another excel file that will be for only me.

oh, here is the link if you just want to download it from here!

Please check if there are any errors in it. Or if you know someone who is taping as well.

I will be able to tape alittle bit. My battery on my camera only last 3 hrs. Should be enough to get all of NIN but not JA also.

But they are saying the venue they are playing at in austin is a no go with the "relaxed" camera policy. So my chances of taping might be down the toliet

05/07/09 7:44 PM

I'll be taping my favorite performances. But my seats arent the best soo yeah.

05/07/09 8:04 PM

I'm spamming this a little bit, but here it goes again:

A tip for people wanting to record this, aside from buying a good camcorder from your local store, and then returning it afterward, you can also try your local public access station. Film something that you can give to them while you have it checked out though, as I wouldn't expect to be able to air the concert.

I checked out an HVX-200 from my local public access station to film the last tour. I suggest everyone do the same for best quality. Tell your station what you need to, but start now, as it often takes a few classes to get permission to use equipment. Good audio stuff too.

Just to make sure Ryan.. any show that is emailed to you/you know of from this tour will be available for download off of your site?

seriously, I will try. I just don't want to be shut down for having so much footage etc. on there. But I think what I will do is every week put a show up for download and you can go to town on it.

05/09/09 12:06 PM

Hey you are the best =D
I don't want you to be shut down either. But thank you for doing this, I don't have the money to see them, which makes me sad because I will probably never see them =(, and atleast through this I can experience different parts of the tour. It means alot to me.

05/09/09 5:09 PM

Maybe you could add the shows to the NIN hub? Or upload them to a site like rapidshare or megaupload? You'd probably have to add one file at a time with rapidshare or megaupload, I'm not sure exactly how those sites work, but if that sounds like a good idea to you I'm more then happy to help.

I recorded the Tampa show with my Sony MZ-M200 Hi-MD recorder.

I was in the pit about halfway between the center of the stage and the right speaker stack.

Here is a download link http://www.sendspace.com/file/lzwxno

Feel free to add it to the site.

will do. Anyway to get this in lossless format (i.e.-FLAC) I would love a copy of it. btw, what is the mic source for this? Thanks man. I'll also PM you this, if its not too much.

some updates for RITC, right now I am out of a computer. My macbook power cord has broken so I ran out of battery, so I cannot update RITC as freely. My good friend and co-webmaster to the site will do it from time to time. Hope to have my laptop back soon.

in other news, I have a lot of tapes (audio and video) coming my way. Very excited about it and I will share all the footage with all of you. There were a few recordings released this week and keep checking RITC for updates on that.

Other than that we are going to post a pdf file of "taper cards" you can hand out to at the shows to tapers you see. It is near impossible to find all the tapers at a show, contact them and get their footage. So if you guys could help out a little and print just one sheet out and give a card to a taper you see in the crowd, just to tell them about this project at RITC is would help me out so much and the end result of this project we have going on with TOIOU for this tour will help out soo much. more to come.

I can get you a copy in FLAC, but I will tell you now that the original recording isn't lossless. I used a Hi-MD, which can record 1h:34m per disc in lossless PCM, but I didn’t want to chance that the set would run longer than that, so I opted to record it in the next best setting on the MD recorder which is ATRAC3plus @ 256kbps

As for the mic, I used the mic that was included with the MZ-M200 when I purchased it. It is the Sony ECM-DS70P

I am actually very impressed with how this recording turned out. It is my 1st concert recording. I clipped the mic to the back collar of my shirt to keep it up high, but not where i would be bumping it. Seems like it was a good choice.

I almost didn't record this show, I hadn't decided till just before I left for the show If I wanted to bring the recorder or not. I wasn't sure what the conditions would be like down there in the pit. But I figured what the hell, it's not often that the artist gives permission for recordings to be done.

Id say my 2 mistakes for this recording were that i used the auto record level rather than setting a manual record level, you can hear it adjust with the strong bass in some of the songs. The other mistake being the location I choose to stand. I should have gone more for the middle. The right mic was probably aimed straight at the right speaker stack which is why the right channel on the recording is so much louder.

I also have Jane's Addiction recorded, All but the 1st few minutes of the 1st song, as i was still getting down to the pit after the restrooms. http://www.sendspace.com/file/1lxntd

Hey Trent - Thanks for pushing the relaxed taping policy through.

Toco - Thanks for having my back and helping w/ setlist/info text construction.

!!!!! Please do not sell this recording in any way, shape or form. Share it FREELY with everyone. !!!!!

Also, PLEASE do NOT encode to lossy formats (mp3, aac, etc) for reasons OTHER than personal use.
I would rather not see this sendspaced, ysi'ed , etc all over the web in 17 different formats.

I just received my Olympus LS-10 today so I should be taping audio at the June 2nd show in Toronto. I have a question for experienced tapers as this is my first attempt. Do you recommend using an external mic as opposed to just the internal mics in the recorder? From what I have been reading it seems like that is a better way to cut down on background noise when recording at a distance with a unidirectional mic, but I'm not sure what difference it would make at a concert. Any advice is appreciated. Especially in mic recommendations. Thanks.

I filmed this in Detroit. The other footage isn't worth a damn. I'll attempt to film all of the PA show.

06/09/09 12:25 AM

I have approx close to 5 gb (60 minutes) of HD footage from 6/6 Homdel show. Audio is crap but picture is very good.

We were $1200 donors so most of it was filmed backstage (unobstructed) and rest from good seats in front. Also have some shots from soundcheck.

I have several full songs (wish, last, reptile, gave up) and lots of clips. I wish I could have filmed more but battery was dying.

I dont have time to upload it and I don't do torrents. So if you are interested in it for owning and/or DVD project, please let me know and we can figure out a way to get it to you.

Some examples loaded up to youtube:

Lights in the Sky clip from soundcheck
March of the pigs clip from backstage
Gave up from backstage with a quick visit from JMJ
The Way Out is Through clip from backstage (quick pan over to show fans backstage)

Got the Chicago show on tape.
Up on youtube here....

If someone can give me some insight on making a torrent and what I got to do I might be interested in throwing it up.
Only d/l torrents here, never made one.
