What did you have to do to go to the last shows of NIN

Simple,

This thread is about what you had to do to get tickets/transportation for the last set of NIN's shows... I had to pay for an extra ticket to convince my roommate to go with me and then took out more student loan money to be able to afford the flight. At least he's paying for his flight.

I know mine isn't that hardcore, but it would be interesting to see what others had to do. Anyone here wanna admit to paying for scalped tickets or providing sexual favors? (That last bit was a joke)

Well....let's put it this way. My husband lost his job because he took off for 1 day for the concert.

as for me?

besides suffering $$$ problems because of that bs?

I just bought tickets and showed up smiling smiley

Who else lost their job for going to the NIN concerts?

^^ Damn, that's pretty dedicated. I had tickets to a Portland LITS show, but pussed out because of finals.

08/06/09 5:19 PM

well, you missed a good show. LITs rocked!

I wouldn't say it was dedicated he gave his boss a months notice and they knew full well he was taking off for one day. He'd been with the company for almost a year and never took a day off. The one day he took off which was deserved he got fired for it.

we ended up almost suing the company because they tried to hold his last paycheck and when we threatened well, they paid up.

I'll never forget the wave goodbye tour....for this very reason.
may the 10th that date will forever be ingrained in my head and not because it was an awesome show but because of that BS.

smiling smiley ah, if only I could just erase that bad part. Having that happened ruined the " day after " buzz of going to the concert.

08/06/09 5:24 PM

I went to the Seattle LITS show. I think it was the first "official" kick-off for the tour and I've been to one of the wave goodbye shows already. I'm pretty excited. Like you said, the shows get ingrained into your head. I'm still peeved I miss the Portland gig, but graduating college took precedence. Shitty about your husbands boss and company. Report them to your state's Attorney General's office for unfair practices.

What? Can't he appeal?

For these last shows I didn't have to sacrifice too much. I'll have to live very meekly this month (and did last month), but luckily my birthday is in September, so my parents are giving me my pocket money, and I can just about afford £400 for the flight and £200 for the hotel, thanks to not spending much money out of my current account in July.

08/07/09 2:25 AM

I'm flying to Singapore tomorrow. But I don't really consider that too hardcore. . . I had been planning on flying to the States for shows, but when a Singapore one was announced. . . Much closer and cheaper. smiling smiley

08/07/09 3:53 AM

if i had found the tickets face value i'd surely have flown to los angeles or new york from rome... worked untill mid july (then i did quit) so i have the money to afford flight and hotel but i'm not interested in paying a scalper. moreover i saw 3 shows here in europe so i'm fine. just hope the majority of people that will attend the last american tour are true fans that hadn't the chance to see the band before.

08/07/09 4:07 AM

Madrid was my last one. I had to pay flight+hotel+ticket for both me and the girlfriend, and the sacrifice was the 100 hours I put into the web design project that paid for it. Surely worth it though, I'd take on another 100 hour project if it meant going to NY, Chicago or LA for one more show!

08/07/09 7:48 AM

I'll be going to the Webster Hall show and both Terminal 5 shows.. All I had to do to get tickets for the first 2 was have quick fingers winking smiley got first one during nin.com sale and second one during tm presale. Then I spent a few weeks posting & scouring this forum and ets for someone to trade t5 +1s with, and finally finalized a trade yesterday! So I could potentially be going to the final 3 NYC NIN shows ever.. We'll miss you Trent

Preparations were a month of living hell, thanks for asking.
We're going abroad, for the Budapest show.
First the friend I was supposed to go with had to cancel it, we already had tickets reserved. Time ticking away and no one on earth seems interested. Someone jumps in literally the last minute, I already freaked out.
But I can't just go, I need a visa. On to mad administrative part: I'm on a new job, so I had to go through the worst administrative hell I've seen to even get certain papers. Within impossible deadline, because without those I couldn't apply for the visa, and (fortunately most of you here don't know what I'm talking about) visa procedure takes all the time that I have left to the show (new rules, it took 2 days the last time I checked). BUT it turns out that 9 documents I brought when applying are NOT enough, and someone should've taped what I had to do to get the missing one in time. In the end I got that visa on July 23rd in the afternoon, evening of 23rd we're on the train, the show is on 24th. Btw, the visa (in other words entering budapest for day and a half) costed more than I payed for the ticket/transportation/accomodation respectively.
Maybe it doesn't sound like a big deal but it was. I'm used to having to travel sometimes to see a show, I'm used to visas, but this time it was 'more than a party'.

(AND I WOULD DO IT AGAIN ANYTIME!)

edit-oh yeah, and I owe some money now smiling smiley(bad timing for expenses)

I live in Scotland.

I'm just back from The Sonisphere Festival (Knebworth, England).

Got a ticket for NIN in the Holywood Paladium in September.

My bank account doesn't like me very much! LOL smiling smiley

08/07/09 3:04 PM

I had to log into the NIN ticketing site at 10am the day of the presales and I bypassed the ticketing queue window...got all 4 NY shows in less than 5 minutes.

Came from Australia towards Europe for this, among other things, and decided to go to the Nova Rock gig in Austria, the gig in Amsterdam, then the London and Manchester gigs and then call it a day. Ended up meeting someone at the Austrian gig who invited me to stay with her in Hungary, so then I decided to go there for my final gig (well, I figured her shoulder is a better one to cry on than my sweaty mate's one...) but after all that was booked, a french guy that we met in manchester convinced us after the london gig to go to the gig in Nimes, France as well. My friend was very excited about this, as even though he is new to nine inch nails, desperately wanted to keep going...

When I went to budapest the girl I went with was apparently also going to the Nimes gig, and we started talking and realised that it was insane to stop there. So we booked buses from Montpellier to Madrid, and Madrid to Porto (Portugal) and she also decided to book a flight to London for sonisphere (even though she had already booked her return flight from portugal, once again, never enough).

So we went to the gigs, ended up sleeping in an underground car park in Portugal as it started raining and we had nowhere to go and caught our flights to London to go to sonisphere.

Well, we got to sonisphere around 6.30, which would be ample time to see them play around eight. Except for the fact that sonisphere is the shittest festival on earth, and made nine inch nails play at 6.30. Well, we were quite busy trying to break in as they played, and we heard them feintly playing from afar while trudging through stinging nettle trying to find an entry point. Found a great fence, about 2 minutes after they finished hurt.

And they played lights in the fucking sky. I went to lights in the sky. Lots of buses there too. Didn't play it there. Saw them like nine times this tour, didn't play it. They did, however, play it while my legs burned in the bushes.

Best last nin gig ever.

Mine's not that good. First NIN show, saw that some standing tickets had come up, was just about to order when a gas leak meant that the power had to be shut off :/ so had to run outside and order them fiddling around on my iPhone. In the end the girl I was going with changed her mind and sold her ticket to my friend for £15.

08/11/09 2:21 AM

First I had to sell some of my retirement stock to pay for tickets and trip costs. Then I had to spend hours waiting on the net for the pre-sale to happen and thankfully was successful. But yea I dipped into my retirement to see these last club shows.

** Update ** > I just got my stock statement and after liquidating taxes it's costing me more to sell the stock than to pay for the whole trip. Damn this fascist economy! Oh well it's worth it for NIN

3 flights, and 1 train to get nearby the concert place in Singapore, from Belgium.
i like the adventure so far, and i loved the gig.

A train ride to Toronto.

I found someone to split tickets with me and he turned out to be the man of my dreams.

Cool, cool. I like the stories I'm hearing. Let's keep it going! The Europe tour guy and the retirement fund guy seem to be in the lead...

08/13/09 2:56 PM

Heh.... My husband threatened me with divorce. Seeing how I went to two shows this summer, had my first vacation planned in five years for the beginning of August, then came home and said "I got Tix to one of the NYC shows!!!!"....

he wasn't too happy.

Luckily, sex makes everything better.

08/13/09 3:05 PM

Sold my bass guitar, and after my little excursion is over,I'll have completely emptied my bank account (for the second time this year I might add, I drained all my funds to go to the PA show back in June, too.) I don't have a job. I'm going to be poor until I get one. Luckily I'm a college student and not a homeowner who has to worry about bills.

08/13/09 5:13 PM

I wish I was a college student who didn't have to worry about bills. Tuition? Rent? Books? Booze?

08/13/09 8:28 PM

This thread kinda bums me out, and at the same time it is kinda cool
As log as noe of these stories get too sad, like sucking dicks, or selling children for tickets
As for me, it was a little too easy, we'll see....

Don't know why I even bother to post this, because my story is about as mundane as possible. Feel bad for everyone who had so much trouble getting to these shows.

Step 1: Bought tickets through nin.com presale
Step 2: Bought plane ticket to NYC

If your "Location: Manhattan," then why did you need to buy plane tickets?

Someone told him he should get high before the show and he took the words literally.

For the last NYC show I'm going to, I just had a good friend buy the tickets for me and asked for time off of work.
BUT for the LITS show in December last year: borrowed money to buy the ticket, and plane fair, stayed with a complete stranger(who was awesome), and actually didn't eat anything that whole weekend(aside from food I was given). It's funny how people are more willing to give a young girl alcohol than food XD. made for better memories, though.
