Ian-Ross posted:... We are planning to go for a few days and do some site seeing as well. And on that note, other than the obvious tourist attractions (Ground Zero, Empire State Building etc.) is there anything else someone might recommend checking out while in town? Thanks for any assistance.
I often recommend the Staten Island Ferry when people ask me this. It's completely free. One leaves every half-hour from lower Manhattan, it's a 25-minute ride, then you can hop on the next departing ferry from Staten Island right away. Unless there's something you want to see on SI.
The views of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn are incredible (used to be more so, I suppose). It goes close enough by the Statue of Liberty to snap a good picture, but without the crowds of the ferry that actually goes to the statue itself.
Most people I talk to tell me to avoid Empire State and to check out Top of the Rock instead (Rockefeller). I haven't done either one myself, so I can't really say.
I'm not sure what me and my brother are going to do when we come down on the 23rd for the show. Probably just visit some of the ... um ... interesting shops in the East Village. Neither one of us is really interested in spending all day waiting in line just to try to get close to the stage. I'm just thrilled that I'll be one of the 1000 or so people to actually experience this!
And in an interesting coincidence, I'm planning a trip to Toronto in September to visit the hockey hall of fame. Maybe you could PM me with some ideas for places to check out while I'm there? ;-)
