From my post over at TS:

This show was every bit as good as the completely kick-ass evening we had in Cleveland a week ago.

A few of tonight's gems:

The Frail into Reptile into Closer - loved this combo. I was so envious when this was played right after the Toledo show and it made my night that we got to hear it.

The Great Destroyer - goosebumps every time I've seen this live.

Trent's voice cracking like a 13 year old's and calling Alessandro an asshole during the band intros . Apparently Ally's quit smoking (good for him) and has a bad case of the grumpies.

The Beginning of the End during the encore set - I don't recall seeing this on any of the other setlists for this tour so bonus for us.

I'm too beat from being stuck on the KY/OH bridge for 30 minutes to try to put the set list together tonight. I will say it was an excellent ending to my run of shows this month. And only 2 months until Grand Rapids and Columbus!

09/01/08 7:10 AM

The show was great, of course! There were a few technical problems, but the band didn't let that stop them from having a great time. Trent was super energetic, it was awesome! Even Justin moved around! Robin is always fun to watch. I'd totally pay just to watch Robin enjoy himself playing guitar. I noticed different songs & even different lighting effects from the Knoxville & Duluth shows. It's cool that they're not making every show exactly the same. The crowd was yelling before White Williams even came on stage, so it was a great crowd too. I went with another obsessed fan & 2 people who "came along for the ride" and we all had a great time! The guy even wants to borrow my Ghosts I-IV because he loved that portion of the show! I converted people to NIN fans! Woohoo!

Now I must wait for the Voodoo Fest in Oct. Hopefully New Orleans survives the hurricane. And I'm keeping my fingers/toes crossed that they'll relist the Nashville show. I'm already gathering a group of people for that show!

NIN kicks ass! 'Nuff said!

09/01/08 9:07 AM

POSITIVES:I honestly don't remember the setlist right now,but I will say it was a GREAT show...way better than Lollapalooza. When Trent sang "this is the only time I really feel alive" during "The Only Time" snip in closer was awesome, that was a first. I'm glad I got to witness Trent "hit puberty" when he was talking and his voice cracked. tongue sticking out smiley Pretty funny when that crazy bitch hopped up on stage and started dancing around.

NEGATIVES: Ok,I really didn't care to see two people fucking on the surveillance video during, what is it,Survivalism? And my negatives have nothing really to do with the show, although my seats were blocked by wires, but I moved around 3 times at the venue and got some pretty kick ass shots me thinks. But AFTER the show,Me,DMsiren and no more than 25 people stood at the rails out by the buses for over an hour waiting for some sign of NIN life. Brett and some other dude got in the two white vans (that DMsiren and myself caught them pulling up in preshow) and went right to the door and picked them up and drove off! Now...while I don't EXPECT them to come over and sign stuff and do pics,it would have been a kind gesture to stop the vans and at least say "hey,we've gotta run,but thanks for coming, you're a bunch of douchebags yada yada yada...". I did see Justin wave when he was in the van leaving, but nobody else. Out of 15 shows I've never gotten to meet anyone but Aaron (and he doesn't really count),and it looks as if I never will either. I dunno...it kind of hurt my feelings a wee bit.

I want a divorce!! I'm filing today, and I changed my number so don't EVEN try calling to apologize.

Okay, yeah, I'm all sore bout last night, but the show was great(even though I got BINGO, twice!). I have a BUNCH of video to post up, so that will be coming soon.

Oh,yeah, White Williams sucked!!

No way man. White Williams was great! Waaay better than Deerhunter. After their set in Duluth the lead singer came over & started arguing with some girl that was probably 14 or 15 years old! She didn't like their music, like most of the people there, and apparenlty that upset him enough to argue with a kid. I say, if Trent selected you & thinks your great, then don't worry about some outspoken, bratty kid. Anyway, White Williams was good.

09/01/08 10:46 AM

LMAO...ummm no.

09/01/08 11:50 AM

I'd like to know why the 1000000 black fleece jacket thingy went up $10 from the Duluth show?! I would have bought at the last show had I known it was going to cost more. That sucked!

09/01/08 11:52 AM

I agree, White Williams isn't something I'll start listening to, unlike Saul Williams & TV on the Radio (love them!), but check out Deerhunter. Horrible! WW was nice compared to them. I'm serious!

Loved the show. Best visual effects at ANY concert I've been to. Echoplex was my favorite of the night though The Great Destroyer was high on my list to hear live.
That crazy stage-hopping woman came running up by our seats with security hot on her rail. . . and we were on the other side of where they drug her off the stage from. Wonder how she managed that. Strange.
I liked White Williams. Didn't love it but liked it.
Tomorrow I'll get my film developed.

I bought it...it's nice...not $80 nice,but nice. hahaah

09/01/08 12:50 PM

Yeah, I went ahead & bought it too. I just thought it sucked that the price changed in 2 weeks. Oh well at least I got one! It can live with my With_Teeth hoodie.

09/01/08 11:52 AM

Oh, man this was my first NIN concert (i couldnt get tickets to the wt one) and lets just say i was blown away! The energy there was so awesome, and the band did an awesome show, i took my girlfriend who never listens to nin and she thought it was the greatest concert she had ever been too! I loved hearing trents voice crack though.

Oh when they busted out the 999,999 into 100,000 it put chills down my back, oh those intro drums! and the ghosts sections were really awesome, some of the fans didint enjoy it, but i thought it was awesome seeing 5 guys jam out with a xylaphone and chello!

And its not that white williams was that bad, his vocals were turned way down, and the all the instrument levels were waaaaay off, that and we all wanted to see NIN so bad so anyone coming between us is horrible, lol!

All in all an awesome show!

best NIN show I have seen to date. also a very unique experience for me, as I brought my wife AND mother-in-law to the show. She (mother-in-law) is totally obsessed with NIN now (which I take great pride and full credit for smiling smiley ... I still harrass haer about her snide remarks back in the mid 90s when my wife and I were dating and she referred to NIN as 'noisy grarbage' ... some 13 years later (and a whole lot of exposure to NIN on my part), she asks me to take her to her first NIN show and possibly her last concert... she loved every sec, said it was the best concert she had seen EVER (and we're talking about on old school classic rock chick who has seen many a show)... and wants to go with us to COlumbus What what in da butt.

anyways, the show.... WOW... all the talk and vids just dont do this tour justice, you gotta be there to get it. we got our tickets pre-sale and were in the god awful section (11&12) Trent commented on as being a fuck up on someones part for selling tix for. The sec i got into the venue, I demanded to be moved and ended up being in sect17 with a ton of peeps the same thing had happened to. It was extraordinarily cool on Trents part to both acknowledge the fuck up and telling us to go sit anywhere we liked before they started the visual blitzkrieg smiling smiley .

my only two real gripes were...

1) the lack of Fragile representation (my fav album still to this day).
2) Allisandro doesnt come off as mr 'happy go lucky' like he did from previous tours, I really hope his days arent numbered in NIN becasue I really like that crazy 'tally (hopefully trents comment on his having quit smoking explains most of it... but he didnt even crack a smile when introduced (which trent also commented on)).

I had not been to The Rupp since the late 90s and was very impressed with the crowd, it was just the right amount of energy, enthusiasm and respect. But man oh man, did anyone see the multitude of women that went into the pit dressed in sundresses and flip flops?!?!? FTW?!?!?...that could have been a very bad situation if the crowd hadnt been so damn cool... props to you folks!

now im on a desperate search to find audio for this fan-fucking-tastic show.

Later

Agreed... my wife, mother-in-law and myself were right there with you (we were the three peeps immediatley to the right of the opening in the gates... my beautiful wife, her mom (older lady in NIN shirt) and the gruffy looking cigar smoking dude (aka ME)), and it sucked that they just couldnt have atleast sent someone (venue security... which there was def no lack of out there, band rep, merch attendant, janitor) to just say NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. but hell it was nice to talk to some fans, joke with security and cool off post show regardless. We had a three hour trip ahead of us so it would have been nice to get home before 3am but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I feel the same way. I don't mean to sound like some fangirl that is bummed about not meeting the band. I'm not that girl. I have been a fan for years, I have been to numerous shows, and I have spent tons of time and money to be able to appreciate them both on record and in person and I think I just wanted a little appreciation in return, face to face since we were both in the same 500 foot radious!! I don't think I would have felt in the least bit put off by someone coming out and saying that we were just out of luck, heck an hour and a half in I would have appreciated it. We had a 3 hour drive as well.
I think if the crowd is as small as ours was, they are really missing out on an opportunity to meet some pretty cool people. We didn't have bad intentions and we didn't have to get autographs and take pictures. That would have been nice, but I would have been happy with a hello and a handshake.

The show was soooo great. I'm going with probly the best one I've seen, yet. Seeing Aaron North 5 times in one year can really make you appreciate Robin.
Song highlights for me: Head Down, God Given, Only, Reptile, In This Twilight & Survivalism. They were very energized and intense. Super good concert.

Sorry to jump in this thread, but I have to apologize on behalf of all of us for not stopping by the barricade at the end of the parking lot to say hi. I didn't see you guys until the van started pulling up to that area, and due to circumstances beyond my control, we didn't stop. sad smiley Bummed me out too, I could tell there was disappointment from those that were standing there.

Many apologies.

You, dear sir, are a gentleman beyond measure. Youre just hopping in here to apologize and clarify just goes to show what youre made of and I personally thank you for it. Oh and lest I forget... you are also one hell of an addition to the worlds greatest band; after seeing them many times over the years, I think Trent has the best incarnation of NIN ever...and that is at no small thanks to you. You are such a wonderful addition to this band. *high five*

Wow Lexington was such a fun show...and roadtrip for me and my peeps. I knew we had good things coming when even the night before the show we had a blast. Went to dinner at PF Changs and saw Justin there, then went to a bar for some drinks and bumped into Josh, Alessandro, and Rob. Didn't get a chance to talk to JMJ on account of the deliciousness which we were dealing with at the time (hahaha), but had a nice time talking with the latter three for a good while when we saw them. I'd say we started off on the right foot for the next day.

The show itself was a blast. TR was really on! Definitely felt his energy more at this show than any of the others I went to recently. We were on the rail right in front of Robin. The crowd was...OK. No issues with people being douchebags, but plenty of issues with people being just plain stupid. Seriously...not smart. And what was up with stage running gal? Well, I guess TR did invite the people in those side sectiosn to come up on stage. haha It was great to hear him "chatty" again.

Seeing The Great Destroyer again was such a treat. The oddball fave of this show may have even been Closer, though - a song I've honestly never been that fond of.

Since white williams seems to be the hot topic in here, I too thought they were terrible. I am pretty open minded musically, but I would not give them a second thought. Word on the street was that things got pushed back for everyone outside because they were late getting to the venue as well. Not smart, WW! I'd guess that wasn't the way to stay on TR's good side. Of the four opening bands I have seen on this tour, they were BY FAR the worst!!! I did clap; no disrespect to them, they just weren't for me.

09/01/08 9:38 PM

What an amazing show. Seriously, it was my favorite of this tour (of the few I have seen). I was on the front barricade and was able to get a lot of good pics of Robin, TR and even a few of JMJ (though, he was across the stage from where I was standing). I will have to post those later.

I did get one of the picks from Robin's lapsteel. And it was great to see all of my NIN tour friends again. I will post the picture link when I finish editing them.

6 shows left for me... possibly 7 if I add Vegas! Can't fucking wait.

You are a good and decent man!

09/02/08 7:57 AM

I REALLY enjoyed this show! Never been to Kentucky before...O_o...and to be honest I was expecting to crowd to be pretty bad but everyone was very nice. Even had not one, not two, but three drunk guys and one guy who I'm sure was tripping his balls off with one shoe on (me: "where's your other shoe"? him: "I couldn't find it, so I came with just one" oKAY...) dance with me. Although I had to break it to the one guy that Hurt isn't a song to slow dance to.

White Williams was alright. Didn't love it, but didn't hate 'em either. I listened to a couple of songs then we went to check out the merch. Ended up buying my first NIN merch at a show EVER because all I had on was a white tank top & it was giving everyone a show sad smiley .

Lots of energy from the band all around. I thought Trent was going to quit talking onstage? Oh and I had a friend of mine with me who hasn't seen Trent or NIN for that matter since a Halloween show many years ago. It's funny to see people's reaction to how he looks now so I didn't say much when she asked me the other day "Does he still wear the fishnets? I hope not, that would be l.a.m.e." Anyways, as soon as 999999 started up I looked at her out of corner of my eye. She squinted went wide eyed. Squinted then yells in my ear "You have GOT to f*cking be kidding me! He's a Chippendales dancer?!? Holy s*it." Nice. BTW who quits smoking during a tour haha .

Would the assholes please quit jumping onstage? Seriously, it's not funny or cute, we didn't pay to see you and I hope you trip and break your neck one day.

PS: It's not a conspiracy after all--I finally got to see Reptile!

I had a blast for sure!! I also went to the Duluth show and this one in Lexington seemed to have so much more energy. Although you could tell Trent was having throat problems he still sounded amazing and i loved it when he threw the mic stand the then his small keyboard off of the stage. I was also in the section 11 but after checking out the other section that we could have moved to im glad we stayed in 11. Had a great view during the Ghost's set and got some really good shots and video. I cant wait to see NIN in my hometown of Nashville. Just patiently waiting for it to be relisted. Anyways thanks for some great times, fun roadtrips and amazing shows NIN.

09/02/08 12:35 PM

Must add also that I was the other idiot in the MINI at Whole Foods trying to park so we could see Ally! I only wish I had a camera to take photos of all of our faces....eyes like saucers! eye popping smiley He looked like he was really wanting a cig at that moment and hi-tailed it out of dodge. Sorry that you had to rush off to avoid fangirls.

Aside from the random sighting which gave us such a thrill, the show was fantastic. It was my second all time NIN show and this one was even better than St. Louis show just for the fact that we got up and moved to a different section for the Ghosts portion so we could see the visuals better. I love the visual aspects of this tour, just amazing. I also met up with my brother, whom I don't see that often, and one of his friends so this show was special for me. Great road trip also!

Those interested in a boot of this show....keep an eye on the ETS Lexington Journal thread. Someone posted teasers and they sound awesome, so I just hope that the complete show materializes in a couple of weeks. [fingers crossed]

First time ever seeing NIN live, and will MOST DEFINITELY NOT be the last.

Robin Finck-
I was on the floor, about two or three rows back from where Robin Finck was playing. I'm 25 years old, so I know the history of Robin and NIN so I was absolutely thrilled to be able to see him back up onstage with Trent. God, it was so fucking cool.

Trent-
What can I say? I've wanted to see him play live, and for the first time there I was; trying to keep up with all the energy he kept bombarding us with. Trent looks (and performs) as if he feels so much better than he did 10 years ago. This show was an experience, not just event.

Freese-
Josh has my utmost respect because I've had some previous experiecne on the drums, and good god, his arms must be made of fucking rubber! Spot-on performance Josh.

Alessandro-
For as mysterious and dark Trent has been known for over the years, it was ironic how Alessandro exuded this quality through-out the show. Trent did say that he quit smoking - and for that I totally understand what you must have felt like - but it was as if he was off in his own world in the back of the stage controlling all types of sounds; very good job I thought.

I don't really know too much about the new bassist/guitarist except that he kicked ass. I loved the "fro" as well.

I'm definitely coming back to another show.
Thanks for a great time,

-Tyrell
