Awesome, awesome show Trent and company! Once again, you blew my mind both visually and aurally.

I'm pretty sure the falseto parts are difficult for him to do-that may be part of the reason why he never performs "Sunspots" live. It's fairly easy for me to go falseto, but then again I'm younger than he is and different people's voices work differently.

I tried to get footage of most of the songs I didn't tape in CR and get still pictures of the songs that I taped in CR. Oh dammit, just watching 1,000,000 and my video camera's sounds is CRAP, obviously not designed at all for conerts.

I'm pretty sure I caught the BSOD in The Great Destroyer-of course you have to be looking for it, otherwise you'll blink and it's gone. That screen in Survivalism I'd heard of before, so I'm pretty sure it's staged or pre-recorded. I don't think they had it at CR, maybe the Ministry of Morality cesnsored it that time. lol

I've sorted out a few pictures, but I've got to edit/resize them before posting them, and we have to go down for breakfast now.

Okay, back. My Dad said he was getting weird looks because he was wearing a SWAT hat he got from Dave and Busters. I probably won't be able to post any pictures or anything until I get back home since we don't have a lot of time here at the hotel.

Quite possibly the most cohesive artistic effort that I've ever seen displayed by a musician. This may have been the best concert that I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot of concerts. Whoever conceptualized the video/light sequences and shit like the video opacity layers (with the smoke rings and shit before "piggy" ) is a true inventor (I'll give credit to Trent for now). That interactive virtual step sequencer thing during Echoplex was pretty crafty as well.

Trent, you're as good as the first time I saw you man. Really encourages me to see that you take good care of your voice and are not going the way of Chino and (god forbid) Maynard.

Always a blast to see Josh Freese on the skins.

Too much...my head hurts from trying to pick this apart. think i'll just leave it alone.

One closing word....REPTILE......thankyouthankyouthankyou

Simply amazing. Kinda glad the show was postponed, because i wasn't able to go in August. The Wretched and The Big Come Down just blew me away, and i always get a little wet in the pants when i see Wish live. Glad to have been in attendance and never a disappointment.

This was my first Nine Inch Nails show and I was very impressed with the band as well as the setlist, Down In It was a real treat for me and they played Reptile which my girlfriend really wanted to see.

I was slightly to the right of JMJ against the rail and had a great veiw of the band and the amazing visuals. My girfreind and I took a bunch of photos that I will post as soon as i can.

Thank You Trent & Co. for a very cool exsperiance and a great night.

PS. I bought 3 shirts (discipline, ghosts, lits tour) and the 1,000,000 track jacket

Concert review: Nine Inch Nails still challenging and rewarding
Out promoting two new albums, Trent Reznor and Co. effectively avoided being a nostalgia act.

By CHRIS RIEMENSCHNEIDER, Star Tribune
Last update: November 26, 2008 - 8:19 AM

The makers of Trent Reznor's microphone stand can be proud: Tuesday's visceral, pummeling concert by Reznor's band Nine Inch Nails proved their product can withstand just about anything.

The bulldog-size but pitbull-tempered frontman alternately pounded his mike stand into the floor, tossed it around the stage or gripped it like it was Excalibur in the rock -- all in keeping with the impact of his music. Even though he writes and records a lot of NIN's songs all on his own, he used that stand as his main instrument of choice Tuesday.

Reznor's 20-year-old group proved almost as resilient in the mostly frantically paced 2 1/2-hour set. For one thing, the crowd of 7,817 was modestly impressive on a weeknight and in this economy (although, since it was a makeup date for a show canceled in August, fans had plenty of time to buy tickets).

More impressive, though, was how NIN steered clear of becoming strictly a nostalgia act. Where most hard-rock bands would be resting on their laurels two decades in, these guys continue to put on challenging but rewarding, innovative shows.

The set list relied heavily on the three albums NIN has put out over the past two years. That's right, three -- including two just this year. Newly freed from his record-label contract, Reznor has become hyper-productive, even issuing his songs for free online before they're available for purchase.

The practice seems to be paying off, as the crowd screamed and howled along through the first six songs of the concert, four of which came off the latest of those records, "The Slip." The juggernaut "1,000,000" made for an explosive opener, and the arena erupted twice over a few songs later as the band lit up with the '90s hit "March of the Pigs."

The fans were even tolerant of the mid-show segment of moody, atmospheric songs from this year's all-instrumental CD, "Ghosts I-IV." Reznor had great help there, though, from the visual effects, as the band eerily performed behind a curtain-like Jumbotron-type screen.

Throughout the concert, the crowd was subjected to a seizure-worthy array of strobes and whirring, flashing lights. With that hi-fi of a setup, it seemed a little hokey for Reznor to be singing into a mini-cam during the mega-hit "Closer," but the crowd ate up that gimmick, too. By the time he got to the pre-encore finale, "Head Like a Hole," Reznor returned to the front of the stage to take it out on his mike stand once again -- still the best visual effect of the night.

I just got home from my night in Minneapolis and all I can say is the concert was everything I expected and more! I loved that Trent introduced the band, and gave a lengthy, sincere apology about the Aug.2nd postponement. NIN put on an awesome show and gave it their all!!
The Target center was packed and looked like a sell-out to me! I was proud to be part of the audience since I've heard some of the other venues didn't have such great turnouts. This was the most packed NIN concert I've ever been to. My pre-sale seats were excellent and I met a lot of really nice people! I bought a shirt and took lots of pics and danced my butt off so all in all it was a truly great experience as always from NIN!
I don't know how these guys perform there hearts out day in day out but they always do and I truly appreciate it!the finger smiley My ears weren't ringing after so maybe it could've been a little louder but that's my one minor complaint. Thank you Trent for coming back and blowing us all away!

Reznor, Nine Inch Nails refuse to let fans forget them
By Ross Raihala

After spending much of his career battling with his record labels, Trent Reznor entered 2008 as a free agent. And Tuesday night at the Target Center, Reznor and his band, Nine Inch Nails, turned in a memorable performance that suggested they'll do just fine on their own.

In terms of unbridled energy, NIN's 2005 gig at the Xcel Energy Center was probably the better show, if only because it saw a freshly rehabbed Reznor back in business after a five-year break. That tour was about re-establishing NIN's relevancy to an audience that might have forgotten the band. Tuesday night was about reminding that audience NIN's not ready to become a nostalgia act quite yet.

Judging by the crowd of 7,817, Reznor isn't adding many newbies to his following, although the number is larger than many markets, where he's seen positively anemic attendances in the 3,000 to 4,000 range. And Tuesday's performance seemed more aimed toward Reznor's hardcore following, with plenty of rewarding and sometimes subtle bits stuffed in along the way.

To wit, Reznor opened the evening with a selection of cuts from "The Slip," the new studio album he self-released in May in a variety of formats, including a free download.

Some of the fresh stuff took on a new life removed from the context of the middling "Slip," too, including the lively "Head Down" and a fiery "Discipline" that morphed into the NIN standard "March of the Pigs."

In one of many cool tricks that synced up the state-of-the-art visual display with the music, the encore-opening "Echoplex" began with a "Wheel of Fortune"-like interactive display that drummer Josh Freese used to launch the percussion track.

A handful of selections from NIN's other new album of the year, the fascinating instrumental collection "Ghosts I-IV," popped up midway through the set as Reznor and company manned such markedly un-NIN-like instruments as a marimba and acoustic guitar to interpret the loosely structured songs on stage.

In lesser hands, an avant-garde instrumental interlude would signal a mass exodus to the beer stands. But Reznor pulled it off thanks in part to the aforementioned visual display, which included sheer LCD curtains that dropped behind and in front of the band members and carried some eye-popping graphics and video to an awestruck crowd.

Elsewhere, Reznor simply turned up the volume and tore the place apart, working in many of the grinding industrial-rock songs that made NIN famous, from early stuff ("Head Like a Hole," "Wish"winking smiley to more recent stunners ("Survivalism," "Only"winking smiley. In typically terse fashion, Reznor barely said a word to the crowd but did manage to apologize for his last-minute postponement that pushed back this gig from its originally scheduled date in August.

Josh will for sure be missed! He is such a badass!

Pretty much all I can think of as of yet. I'm still on that euphoric high and my ears are still ringing!

P.S. Did anyone notice during Survivalism that there were people having sex in the bathroom on the video screen? Me and friends had a good laugh at that one! smiling smiley

1. I didn't see you at the show! I would have said hello to you.

2. I didn't get a clear view of the bathroom sexytime because Trent was blocking my view.

I wasn't on the floor. sad smiley But I was still really close. And my group didn't want to do the Pizza Luce thing because they had class in the morning.

In regards to the bathroom sex, well I guess I wouldn't mind Trent blocking my view. winking smiley

The show was amazing. It was cool to see how musically talented the whole band is during the Ghosts portion of the show.

I agree with the others, Reptile was tight! I have only ever kind of like the song myself, but it was on a whole other level last night, and is definitely one of the best single song performances I have ever seen. Not to mention that fact that Trent's vocals on In This Twilight were amazing. I love how it ended the show with each band member getting his moment in the spotlight. With Trent introducing them as well it really looks like he's opening up more and making more of a collaboration as opposed to just Trent's gig.

And simply put Josh Freese is the shiznit.

lol by far the best show Ive seen from Nails. Up front with Theo and Leo, the best spot in the house. Guards were great crowd was great but most importantly, it's damned good to see Nails again, and in top shape (even if some of their equipment was not...)

THANK YOU TRENT!!!!!!!!!

11/26/08 2:07 PM

I was there. It was amazing. I hadn't seen Nails since 2000 and back then I didn't buy early enough to get floor tickets. This time I was down there on the floor, in the thick of it, and was totally blown away. I was too far back in the fray to really get good photos or video but I'm working on posting what I did get on my flickr blog. The video I took during March of the Pigs was brutal, I wish I had left the camera on longer...

Trent and Co,, thank you for bringing a great show to Minneapolis. I've seen alot of shows around here recently and this even topped the awesome M83 show that came through days earlier. If anything it just shows that NIN's creativity never dies and that the crowds will always be waiting, even in the great white north at a mid-week show two days before Thanksgiving. grinning smiley

11/26/08 2:07 PM

Okay, my ears are STILL ringing over 18 HOURS LATER!

11/26/08 2:57 PM

Oh my lord!!! First off, this is my second Nails show, i went in 2005 where unfortunately i passed out halfway thru the Queens of Stone Age set that i had to take it alot easier than i would have liked. (eerie heart condition) So this time around i really rocked out, the music list was quite satisfying,(i would have liked to hear Starfuckers thosmiling smiley the images were so intense, and Im so glad that Robin was back in the lineup. The best part was that yesterday was my birthday!! (I just turned 24) How fuckin sweet is that?? Thank you Trent and Co. this show practically just made my year. I woke up so sore this morning tho, haha, but in a good way.

11/26/08 3:42 PM

I was just so freakin' psyched that he played The Big Come Down, and then Down In It! and just to top it all off, he throws Reptile in! That was just a crazy concert, all of my friends that went for their first time to NIN said that they now like NIN a lot more! lol they said that was the best performance they had ever seen. I agree!

It was sexual intercourse for the eyes and mind........... The visuals had an epic Pink Floyd feel to it.... Fucking amazing.

Man, this show has now become the best concert ive ever been too. The fact that he played reptile freaking made me blow a nut. Thanks you trent for putting on such a great show, i will remember this one for quite some time and looking forward to the next tour.

Meet alot of really cool people also at this concert and got totally thrashed in the mash pit also (feel like a truck hit me still). Plus meet someone really cool on the light rail home but forgot to catch her name. Oh well, best show ever.

The Setlist posted looks right to me, only corrections I might add would be before he played The Frail, he played the first part of La Mer then transitioned into The Frail, and I think Trent was playing Lights in The Sky when everybody was taking their final bows at the end of the show, no lyrics just the music. I could be wrong though.

It sounded like Lights In the Sky at first, but after some time it was clear that it was an instrumental version of Zero-Sum.

That was my first NIN show, and it was just... it was... words can't even do it justice. It was fucking awesome. I dragged one of my friends along who doesn't really listen to NIN, and he's never been to a concert, either. He was probably more impressed than anyone with us.

I didn't like Boris so much. The bass was way too loud compared to the other instruments, and I couldn't really discern what was going on. However, I do plan to give a listen to their studio recordings.

11/26/08 5:55 PM

Good times indeed.

Reptile
Down In It
The Wretched
...all good things.

The Hand That Feeds
...??? As far as live energy with the crowd it's second only to Head Like A Hole. Silly man.

Reptile was fucking stellar.
