AMAZING show! Shame about the lights though!

Fantastic show! I saw them in SLC a few months back and really enjoyed the light show there. It's too bad they couldn't get 'em for this show. But I'm just glad we got to see them at all smiling smiley smiling smiley

For sure this was the show, to be at because of....

Show almost cancelled, at least half of the crew got stuck, beacuse of a highway was closed.

They started with Pinion, followed by Terrible Lie, this is when you knew something was 'up'

No light-show whatsoever, only the usual wall of lights behind them, and on the sides, nothing else.

I loved the show, we got some songs that haven't been played...

Gave up
The Line Begins to Blur
The Frail
The Wretched
Reptile
The Begginning of the End
Starfuckers
Head Like a Hole

And some more that, I wrote down on iphone who just died on me.

Also I got a pic of Rob taking this pic, heh.

That's odd, because all of the shows that I've been to on this tour, I've seen Gave Up, The Frail/Wretched, and HLAH. And Reptile at about half of them...

12/09/08 2:51 AM

Here's the songs that were played. I did the best I could with the order of the songs, but they played through them so fast that it's hard to remember accurately. Correct me where I'm wrong. I am %100 sure about the songs they played though.
Edit: My friend got the setlist:

Pinion (intro)
Terrible Lie
1,000,000
Letting You
March of the Pigs
Piggy
The Frail
The Wretched
Survivalism
Reptile
Closer
Discipline
The Beginning of the End
Ghosts 31
Wish
Head Down
Gave Up
The Line Begins to Blur
Only
God Given
Hurt
Starfuckers, Inc.
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like a Hole

Highlights for me were Reptile, The Line Begins To Blur, Starfuckers and just the overall crowd/band energy. They played one helluva show despite the lack of big stage production. I've said for years with bands like Nine Inch Nails and Tool that I would rather have an lower budget stage setup with a random setlist each night than a standard set of songs. Tonight, it seems, I got my wish. After reading the message about these dates being the last in the foreseeable future, I can definitely say it was a great experience that will go down as one of my favorite concert experiences, and I've enjoyed my share of great concerts... Thanks for not canceling!

P.S. Fuck all the haters and whiners. At least they played for us. There's no way Trent would reschedule so just be glad you got to see NIN, even if it wasn't the audiovisual presentation the other shows on the tour got.

not to hate on the show...does anyone else feel sold out? the songs songs were great but i expected a better light show, could it have been the ID center? i really dont think so. and admin. can comment if they want but for me it wasn't the show that was that the band has been so excited about... am i the only one?

12/09/08 6:36 AM

I saw tonight's show and it was really great given the circumstances. Traveling over the Blues is a bitch to begin with, throw snow into the mix and you have a logistics clusterfuck of epic proportions trying to move tons of lighting gear, instruments, band and crew, etc. I will admit I am a little bummed because I really wanted to watch the entire setup again like I did in SLC. "Only" and "Echoplex" with the full setup is amazing.

On the other hand this was a completely unique show. Trent interacted with the audience a lot more and from what I could tell talked to the rest of the guys onstage on the fly so they knew what to play. The dude running the console in the back was freaking out controlling the lights on the fly too.

Things could be worse, the show could have been canceled. I am happy the show went on despite the weather fucking up the works and the super short time the crew had to setup the gear on hand. Outstanding work by everyone involved all around and I can't wait for the next show.

12/09/08 7:58 AM

Last nights show was awesome! Yes it may pale in comparison to some of the other shows on the tour, but they didnt HAVE to play. They could have cancelled due to weather. As for the lights, I thought it was pretty damn good considering the ammount of time they had to set up. Over all it rocked!! But The Bug needs squashed, their beats were good, vocals sucked.. I do have to say this, the females attending were look DAMN GOOD! Thank you to the ladies. And one hell of a big thanks to Trent and the band for making the show happen..

12/09/08 8:47 AM

My opinion... anyone who thought this was a wonderful show obviously hasn't been to many concerts. Unless they always suck ass at the Idaho Center? My first concert there.

Worst show I've ever been to. Granted, NIN was decent. Opening band was a complete joke, lights sucked, sound sucked, and the smallest crowd I've ever seen. $28 a ticket... they should have paid me to go it was so bad!

I don't know what else to say.......I'm bummed. I have been a fan of NIN for 19 years. This was the only the second time they have played in Idaho and also the second time I have seen them. I know the weather wasn't anybody's fault but I do feel jipped on this concert. All I have done this year is watch youtube videos on this amazing tour and to find out we were the only stop on the whole damn thing that didn't get the complete package??? How am I supposed to feel??? I sacrificed my entire Christmas so that I could go to this show with my 10 and 7 year old kids and there was nothing to it. I paid $150 for us to get a typical run-of-the-mill show. The set-list was OK but they barely played anything off of 'Year Zero'. They have closed every show with my favorite song 'In This Twilight' and they couldnt even play it last night???? I'm not giving up on NIN because of this but I'm not a very happy camper right now. I would've much rather they canceled and just made the date up instead with the full production. It was a decent show but not worth the money I had to sacrifice to bring my kids. Even they got bored.

Word it was very disappointing.

12/09/08 10:21 AM

Supposedly the show was less than regular because of the inclement weather the crew was not able to set up the light show in time. Hell of a setlist though even if slightly shorter than usual.

12/09/08 10:31 AM

I really can't understand why everyone was upset about the lights. Maybe because I went to see NIN and not some flashy lights. Granted, light shows can enhance the experience, but the lack there of did not ruin the experience for me. I only feel a little tiny bit bad that I didn't the get the full shabang. I always think the Idaho is a weird place to have concerts. It just doesn't feel...right.

12/09/08 10:55 AM

Awesome show. NIN never disappoints even considering the circumstances. I really was looking forward to the visuals but the show was amazing none the less. Reptile was awesome. HLAH was really fucking awesome. I just feel fortunate that they didn't cancel. Please come back again!!!

12/09/08 11:02 AM

It's really upsetting to me to see people come here to bitch pointlessly about something that was out of human control. There were road closures between Portland and Idaho, and the crew were delayed about 10 hours. The show could have been canceled, but instead we got a different set list and a story to tell. I'm sorry Idaho fans couldn't see the amazing production. But, I got up at 4 am, drove from Salt Lake City, lined up entirely too early, met some very cool people to hang out with for 8 hours in the cold before seeing what I thought was a great show. No regrets here!

12/09/08 11:02 AM

I went and saw them in Portland the night before and of course they had the whole set for this tour...you know like the ones on the videos...but you know what fuck it, it was such an awesome, amazing show!!!

the energy was on all night and i knew that because i knew what to expect and at first felt pissed off...not at the band of course or the crew...but at the circumstance in general, and the eastern part of Oregon.

but they played with such intensity and it was too me such an on the fly, improvised, and raw show...improvised not in the sense of fully winging it considering that i saw a set list being put down...but there was a sense watching the band that decisions were being made fast and quickly...none the less, this show was amazing

i'm glad i got to see two different shows from two different perspectives...i'm glad Trent talked and explained the situation...he can really make you feel apart of the show and there was no need for him to apologize cause either way everyone left feeling amazed and satisfied...if not then obviously your not much of a fan

I completely agree. Last nights show reinforced my belief that Trent can put on a stunning show without elaborate visuals. The setlist was unparalled by the other shows imo.

Also, does he often come down in the crowd like that? I've never seen him do that.

12/09/08 12:07 PM

I waited patiently outside Trent's hotel and look what I got!

I met and shook Allessandro Cortini's hand and I also got to talk to Trent! He was super nice and signed my vinyl. I thanked him for coming to Boise and he said, "it was an adventure for us to get here".

I can understand why people would be disappointed about the lack of light show. I saw them in SLC and the light show is just that good! But seeing them as we did was a lot better than cancelling.

Still, meeting Trent totally made everything for me!!!!!

What I meant to say, is that we got to see, a raw nin show. Reptile hasn't been played in teh last few shows.

And what the fuck is up with the 7 year old surfing? He should have been pulled out after the first time, not when he almost fell on his head, a security guy caught him, at the last second, otherwise he would be dead now. And some's sues wold be going for nin.

I gotta tell you guys who didn;t get to see the light show, it's really good and all. But getting to see nin this raw, it should make you feel like if you're seeing a band when they started, that's how I felt. I saw them this raw/upclose/kick-ass on 05 at the KROQ almost acoustic x-mas,(where the famous "Josh Fresse is a homo" happened) and last night's show was even better than that one.

btw.

Did anyone see Robin's face at the beggining? He was so fucking pissed off all of them were, but he made a face that, scared my gf she said what's wrong with him why so angry? That face was priceless, even Trent was telling his techs, where he wanted his keyboard, pointing with his finger at the exact spot.

Piggy was great, for the last piano part he used something that looked like a small speaker, against the mic I never seen that before.

after portland's show, i started to notice these thoughts of clockwork in my head; "okay, so the screen's gonna come down here and, oh, here's the 'ghosts' set so this would be a good time to sit down before 'wish' and, shit, we better leave right as 'in this twilight' is ending so we don't spend forever getting out ...". just shit like that, which is why i thought last night's performance in its individuality was phenomenal. i haven't seen trent come down during "piggy" since that tiny reno gig. so fucking props to the band for giving me something special. not that the lights and effects aren't, but this was really something else.

for those of you who were disappointed that the bombast wasn't there, i'm sorry. i gotta say, though, that 7 and 10-year-olds really don't belong at a nin show.

Awesome show! It didn’t bother me that there was no screens. I actually liked not knowing what was coming. It took me a whole minute going this isn’t 1,000,000 to realize it was Terrible Lie, though I am pretty sure I was singing along nonetheless. I was way excited to see that we got some of the songs that I missed in Atlantic City. “The Line Begins to Blur,” was one that I really wanted to see and “Piggy”…what can I say. It was too cool to have Trent come down off of the stage and squash Ash. Made the pit just that more tolerable/enjoyable and to me it was a rough pit. I think I missed the entire song of ‘The Hand that Feeds,’ because of surfers… I have no idea what I was thinking when we arrived, entirely too early too, and I went ‘lets do the pit!’ I think my brain deserted me on that instance, though I couldn’t imagine the show in seats. It was just too great on the rail. I would have been disappointed if I was in A4 and Trent came to the rail.

So, THANKS everyone, band and crew, for coming out and putting on a great show, even though the weather wasn’t in your guy’s favor. I know that I still think the trip from SLC was way worth it, even if we were stranded for a good three hours due to alternator failure and I missing my final deadline…by about two and a half hours…*sigh* it was still way worth it. I thought the energy was great and the whole band did a fantastic job, especially on a completely different set list and setup. It was also nice to meet some neat people in the line and hopefully I will see you all in Vegas…or Sacramento for those that are going!

Now off to pack for SFO tomorrow!! Thanks again!! smiling smiley

fuck the lights. i don't care. i don't need a spectacle to rock.
i would watch NIN in a basement show. seriously.

i thought the bug was pretty rad, but then again, i like dub-influenced stuff.

i was in the pit, and ended up trying to be all tough by protecting a girl. she said to me at the end of the show that it was her first concert ever. i congratulated her on her good choice. if she's out there, i do want to apologize for banging my jaw on her head.

did anybody else go to the neurolux after the show?

12/09/08 10:31 PM

Sorry it took so long for me to post my piece. Computer difficulties, you understand.

First of all, I must bitch at a few people. Most notably the bald guy in the middle of GA that was flipping off 'the Bug' for minutes at a time. I didn't enjoy the opening band nor have I at the other two shows on this tour. Maybe others were. Trent selects fellow artists based upon how HE feels about them. That means that you were flipping the bird at Trent indirectly. In Atlantic City, I'm pretty sure that he actually admonished us slightly for how we disrespected Health. In the future, either be more respectful of the opening band, or go flip them off from a distance where you don't smear Boise's reputation.
(NOTE: Idaho is well-known for being a haven for skinheads. You bald+middle finger at black woman= not good)

And now for my bitching about the show...oh, that's right, the show was AWESOME!!! I must echo aforementioned opinions about how this rocked due to it being different. And I'll use the word "raw." This is the fourth time that I've seen NIN in four months (Virgin Mobile Fest, Phili, and AC) and all four shows were different in one way or another. The crew was flying by the seat of their pants, some songs weren't sound checked, microphones weren't turned on, etc, etc. But they pulled it off and went non-stop. Trent even apologized. He doesn't have to apologize, he's TRENT! And Robin...jeez! He put on quite a show in jeans. Bravo Robin. Usually these guys get a break to catch their breath during the Ghosts portion.

The only disappointment is that they didn't finish with "In this Twilight." I do recommend that people that were not privvy to this, look it up on YouTube.

People that want to bitch need to think about the fact that Trent came to Boise at all. Why should he waste his time in a red state when he could have swung by Spokane on his way to Missoula. The Treasure Valley is lucky that Trent keeps coming back. Let us laud him so that he continues to drop by instead of cutting him down because trucks got stuck.

P.S. Get a babysitter.
