Absolutely amazing show!!! Perfect setlist!!

05/12/09 9:12 PM

a bit disappointed that Trent twattered he didn't think this was their best show, but i agree somewhat. the setlist was terrific, IMHO, a true hardcore fan's setlist. But let's face it, the crowd wasn't all hardcore fans, so...

Mr Self destruct (fucking badass opener)
Sin
Terrible lie
March of the pigs
Heresy
the Becoming (afterwards, Trent says "that's a hard fucking song to play"winking smiley
Piggy (nothing can stop me now)
Not so pretty now (evidently i missed this when i went for a pee...dammit)
Survivalism
Gave up
La mer
The fragile (Trent slams mic stand during 2nd verse)
Gone, still
The way out is through (yes! thank you, Trent)
Wish
I do not want this (nice!)
Lights in the sky (beautiful, despite the fuckwads behind me blabbing the whole time)
Dead souls (wtf?)
The hand that feeds
Head like a hole

humble words of advice from a hardcore fan to Trent:

-don't end with 'head like a hole.' honestly, that's my cue to leave so i can beat the crowds to take a piss, etc. we've seen you play that song more than 'closer', and it needs to be put out of its misery.

-playing before Jane's doesn't make sense to me. I know you probably did this as a 'respect' thing, but in reality, it might be disrespectful to them because about a third of the crowd leaves after NIN is done playing.
-as far as crowd reaction, I can only speak for myself. look, i'm a 40-ish year old man, like you Trent. This is probably the last time I will see NIN play live, and I just want to enjoy hearing you play the songs one last time. Just because I'm not moshing and singing along with every song doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it. To be frank, I had goosebumps when you played 'the way out is through', 'la mer', 'mr self destruct', and a few others. I know that doesn't translate well from a feedback standpoint, but I DID enjoy the show immensely. sorry to disappoint you this time, but thank you for all the years of busting your ass on the road.

I can't call myself speechless...but if tried to say all that is running through my head it would take hours. Amazing, cathartic, unforgettable show!

05/12/09 9:44 PM

playing before Jane's doesn't make sense to me.
Good thing you weren't the mastermind behind this, genius. Was it meant to make sense to YOU?

I know you probably did this as a 'respect' thing. Yes, he's said that time and time again. There's not probably.

in reality, it might be disrespectful to them because about a third of the crowd leaves after NIN is done playing.

People leave. Point being? The vast majority of those who leave do so to use the restroom, buy drinks, etc. They come back.

It'll be a joyous day for the world when you get over yourself.

05/12/09 9:48 PM

ok, go ahead and ignore reality. every review I've read of this tour so far has mentioned that 25-30% of the crowd leaves after NIN is done....it sucks for Jane's, that's the bottom line. no need to get defensive about it.

05/12/09 9:56 PM

This was the 7th show for my wife and me, and probably my favorite. I absolutely loved all of the rare live songs.
Thank you so much.

Loved the show regardless. Fifth one I've been too and the setlist was def my fav.

Show was awesome it's sad that the pit was a little blah but I can tell you this Trent, the stadium seated people were going crazy! We should have Bern down there!

05/12/09 10:08 PM

Will be uploading video soon smiling smiley Got some HD video of The Fragile, La Mer and a few others songs.

Edit: I'll be uploading to Vimeo for the time being since Youtube is down right now. I picked "Not So Pretty Now" as the first video. It's missing the start, but the quality is really nice I think.

Regardless of TR's feelings about the show, I thought it was awesome. I especially loved the middle section with La Mer, Gone Still, The Fragile and The Way Out Is Through. They KILLED it on that last one.

The crowd around me in the nin.com seats was really strange tonight. Random people sitting down, smoking, talking... not the usual scene. Yes, there were jugheads commenting on how they just wanted to hear "HLAH". It is tricky to do the "hardcore fan" setlist in huge places like this when part of the crowd is there to see JA and might not be aware of everything NIN has done the past 10 years. Everyone is a critic. I'm still dying to hear me some "The Line Begins To Blur" and "We're In This Together". I'm also kind of missing the "Great Destroyer".

Pix here.

05/12/09 10:11 PM

Not So Pretty Now! I was up front and was having a blast, but it didn't feel anything like the prior three shows. Perhaps being an indoor venue as opposed to an amphitheater had something to do with the mood. Oh well. Two more confirmed for me (possibly a few more in Asia if Taiwan is the end) and then it's back to saving instead of spending money smiling smiley

Having been at three of the four shows so far, I have seen the 'reality' with my own eyes. Thanks.

05/12/09 10:13 PM

I had great time. The set list was awesome. Gone, still was excellent. AT&T service sucked, it is normally good in Austin

05/12/09 10:14 PM

I think we're all missing the point here.... Tom Morello played the guitar WITH HIS FUCKING TEETH!!!

Maybe easily amused but that was pretty cool... despite their 30 minute (if that??)set.

I will be posting video (not of that, I was too slow with the camera)of a little Street Sweeper Social Club and portions of NIN songs like The Becoming and Lost Souls as soon as I: a)convert them into a universal format and b)find my stoopid youtube password sad smiley

05/12/09 10:17 PM

oh btw, this kid Ilan is one hell of a drummer...the best I've seen play with NIN (including Josh...sorry Josh). he has power and fluidity that quite frankly is reminscent of John Bonham, and that's no BS (yes, I'm old enough to have seen Bonzo play live).

05/12/09 10:28 PM

Good grief it's taking forever and a half to get that video uploaded for y'all. Did get a picture of a stage hand with his hand up Trents shirt lol

05/12/09 10:38 PM

Thought the concert was amazing!
VERY disappointed Trent had to call out the crowd on Twitter...

It was definitely the most tame "pit" I've ever been in, but me and a lot of people around me knew every word and jumped all show long.

Don't blame everyone cause the majority was stupid. (BUSH 04 anyone?)

Loved Dead Souls... Not happy there was no Metal...

Despite it all, a great show.

This was my first NIN show and it exceeded my expectations. SSSC and Janes performance was also top caliber. Tom Morello is my favorite guitarist and god damn, a teeth solo!? I loved that my favorite songs were played and I also enjoyed the rarely played songs as well. My only complaint is you guys didn't play Burn. Oh well, I'm sure some of the more hardcore NIN fans are sick of that song anyway. From a slightly more casual NIN fan, You guys were amazing, not enough words I can use to praise you guys.

I'd like to give a shout out to those two beautiful ladies from Dallas, Liz and Ashley, I hope I remembered your names right. It was a blast hugging up the rail with you guys. It really made my night since none of my friends came to this concert and I was afraid it was going to be awkward and weird going to a concert alone >_> You made the whole situation a lot more comfortable. Keep on Rockin. Get home safe.

To everyone else who attended the show, I hope you guys get back home safely. Peace.

Not just a stage hand, that's their stage manager. I worked NIN in Missoula last December and remember him fondly. Very, very, nice guy.

She looks like she's tightening some screws or replacing the door on his control panel. So there it is. Photographic evidence that he has replaced himself with a robot so that he can stay home and get nookie... man... wish I had that kinda cash.

Stop being such a cultist twat, let the man have his opinion. It's not like he said it sucked, in fact he was very clear that it was the opposite. He simply voiced a few of his opinions. No need for the fanboyery.

Trent's Tweet for anyone who hasn't seen it:

"Not one of our better shows. Despite our efforts we seemed unable to win over the crowd. Texas ends with a whisper."

Maybe the 'hardcore setlist' idea kinda invites that possibility of this kind of reaction. It's an unfortunate fact that concerts are rarely full of hardcore fans. In fact, you're likely to make up the minority. Still, while the audience may not be going nuts i'm sure the hardcore fans were having a blast.

@fragility_v2, Guess who's jealous they weren't as close to the man as you were? Of course, the way he kept tossing his tambourine everywhere, I would have gone home with a black eye with such close proximity knowing my luck.

I agree, I loved the show. Sure some of the "new" fans may not recognize some of the older stuff, but I think anyone who knew what was being played absolutely loved it!

Haha, did you see the Mic "wrangler" one guy decided to just stay down in front of Trent to keep the mic stand in place.
