Wow...amazing! First off, we got there early enough that they were not charging for parking, so we had good, free parking...and got there just in time to hear NIN do "I'm Afraid of Americans" for soundcheck, we were excited to hear that. $50 (40+10 s/c) tickets got us front and center although in seating, but we were dancing and thrashing the whole time.
I was amazed how few people were there for Street Sweeper and they freaking blew my mind! Tom Morello playing the guitar with his teeth/tongue and Boots Riley has a captivating stage presence. Looking forward to their album.
NIN was beyond words. I have to echo other sentiments I have read:
TRENT, thank you for putting together such an imaginative set...the absolute best I could imagine. Other have bitched that you "Wave Goodbye" and it is anti-climactic...well, I would be pissed if you had just posted "NIN is Quitting" on the website. My wife and I both appreciated the sincerity in your few minutes spent saying "Goodbye" to the crowd. Thank you for this amazing experience and for the tremendous amount of energy put into this show. And, by the way, fantastic choice in Ilan, that kid can beat the shit out of that drum kit like few others can, I can't wait to see where his career goes.
Jane's Addiction...I have been a fan of this band but Perry was up in Santa Fe singing. Did he fall twice after jumping off the drum kit or was that by some chance acrobatics? He is a showman to say the least but the rest of the band was so tight and crisp, I could forgive Perry, he's a bit eccentric anyway, so you have to expect these things. Really glad we got to see them live, although I hope the screamy chick a row or two back is a secretary with no voice today... "Dave, I love you" gets old, no matter how pretty he is.
We also really appreciated the lights for both bands...NIN in B&W was dramatic and the effects it created were far beyond what I had imagined. Jane's playing in color was a cool concept, again, Trent using his imagination.
15 years after seeing my first show, I am damned sore...thrashing, driving 10 hours, waiting in the sun, driving 10 hours still thrashing...I am so amazed that the band puts in this energy time after time after time. 35 ain't 20... and last, thank you for the open camera policy, my wife is visually impaired and she can see what the rest of us did now that we're home and downloading. THANK YOU...and don't make the goodbye too long before we see you (in some form) again.
