Those of you moaning about the O2, you have obviously never been to Wembley Arena, or in fact any other large venue. The O2 was by far and away the best arena venue I've been to. Yes the food and drink was expensive (but it is London after all) however there were no queues, speedy getting in and out, and most importantly the sound was incredible.

To put it in perspective, Wembley arena used to curtain off the last third of the hall because it was too big, and roll the seating on the back wall forward. The roof was twice as high, so they compensated for the shocking acoustics by turning the volume up, causing the seated people to go deaf in one ear.

Yes it would be better if the band were playing in an academy 1/4 the capacity, or in your living room, but then people would have had to missed out, annoying if that was you right?

NIN presale line moved pretty quick, shame there were 3 ticketmaster booths open doing nothing. Certainly had much worse experiences trying to pick up tickets on the door. They let me keep my presale ticket when I got my wristband, although it does seem a rather odd system.

Jane's put on a good show, however it was a shame Perry used the echo effect thing on his voice for the entire set, kindda garbled the verse parts to make the words indecipherable to anyone that doesnt know their stuff by heart.

NIN = Perfect of course.

Incredible night. Thanks.

I agree, London arena was a shocking venue, warm beer, ran out of food when you got to the counter, wembley, it's only in the last few years they have let you take drinks into the standing area!!! I'm not an arena fan at all but the O2 i have been to a few times now and it is the best arena london has for gigs.

NIN were amazing last night. Went to Manchester the night before which was awesome, but the london show was immense.

Got some really good photos i'll upload somewhere next week. My credit card hurts a lot from spending loads on merch, all i can say now is roll on sonisphere, i need more nin.

Exactly - if NIN were only going to play one gig in London this year, the o2 was surely the best choice: excellent acoustics coupled with a massive seating capacity. What's more, seeing the whole dome filled to the brim with NIN fans was an awe-inspiring sight! I'm all for small and intimate, but if it's a choice between one gig at the o2 or one gig at the Brixton Academy, it's got to be the o2 smiling smiley

been to wembley arena plenty of times. it has never taken me (from the advertised door opening time) over two hours to get in there. wembley put that curtain up when not all the tickets are sold. you'll probably find the O2 do a similar thing if they don't sell all their tickets. have to admit the sound at the O2 was better than wembley by a mile. i just don't like arena gigs. there were people up the sides sitting down. what the hell's that all about? who can anyone sit down when nin are playing?

I have to say, I was absolutley gobsmacked by last night!

Although I went on my own, I didn't feel alone, met some cool peeps I was sat next to, and everyone was so into it, that when I was going completely crazy, singing my heart out to "heresy" and "survivalism" and almost blubbing like a girl to "hurt" at the encore, I wasn't out of place!!

It's by far the best gig I have been to at the O2 and probably ever, especially with the bonus of Gary Numan. Not seen TR since Glastonbury festival 2000, where they were great, but last night just blew me away!

Hey to all that were there last night and have posted here, glad you got to experience a god of music with me, and hopefully not for the last time yawning smiley)

Having said all that, Janes Addiction were brilliant, good to see them back after the last time I saw Perry with "Porno for Pyros" at Reading Festival.

Thanks for the insane/genius live music, good times and general brilliance always Trent.

07/16/09 6:08 AM

I had no idea that so many awesome tracks could be squeezed into 2 hours - a phenomenal set list for sure. It was also good to hear the music stripped back to basics: less emphasis on synthesis and more raw instrumantals - JMJ's romping bass on 'The Becoming' being a fine example. How 4 guys can make so much awesome noise is just plain mindboggling. Still a tad sore from the pit, I agree it was pretty 'violent' but I didn't see anyone swinging for eachother - gladly!

Simple Post.
Great Gig, Great Set, Great Sound, Great View, Great Great Great.
Its a real shame that 10yrs of me following NIN to various points of the globe have come to an end. Its been great and something I will miss the anticipation of.
Thanks Trent for all the great shows and memories.
Good luck with the rest of the tour and your family life.
Andrew

This is something Wembley Arena always does too and then you have to remember to collect a ticket on the way out if you want your 'souvenir'. I think it is to stop overcrowding as people in standing once they are on the floor used to pass their ticket to people in seating who would then use it to get onto the floor.

Went to Wembley Arena earlier this year for a Prodigy gig, although the queueing was on a par with last night (you obviously didn't have a ticket for entrance F, that queue was just stupidly long) I'd say Wembley won hands down for everything else. None of this change-your-ticket-for-an-armband-and-then-back-for-a-ticket bollocks. I seem to remember the drinks being slightly better for price (and a better selection), and there were considerably cheaper ways of getting summat to eat at Wembley.

Having been to the same Prodigy gig, I've gotta say I saw things from a totally different angle; The bar we went to there only sold warm bottles of beer for the same price as pints and the queueing system outside was utter rubbish (my mates who went to the other side of the building got in a half hour before us)

Conversely, the 02 was a great venue, apart from the slight delay at pre-sale (not too bad really, apart from the rain), got to keep our tickets (glad too, the pre-sale ones look a helluva lot nicer), got in quickly and easily via the nin.com fast-track queue (a masterstroke if ever there was one), and a great choice of food available (although we didn't go for any)

Shows that no matter how good or bad a venue is, you can still make a great time of it, or come out hating it

Well I was one of those sitting down (at least for the middle of the set) and there were three reasons for that:

1) I'd hurt my back about a week before and standing for two hours would have been agonising.
2) I'd had about fifteen hours sleep in five days so was exhausted going in
3) The strobes gave me a massive headache and I needed to take a break from staring straight at the stage.

Thank you so much for the night of a lifetime!

It was absolutely incredible! I was 3 rows from the front and everyone was amazing - a really great crowd (if a little rowdy at times!!!)

Jane's were superb - I've never seen them live before and Perry is quite the lil' tooshie wiggler isn't he?!?

I am still in absolute awe that Perry came down to the crowd, smiled at us, and then reached out and grabbed my hand, looked me right in the eye,

and smiling, he shook my hand...!!

***insert fangirl squeal here***

I also managed to reach out and touch Dave Navarro's sweaty bicep.
***fangirl shudder of delight***

I loved the opening video to Jane's (clip from The River Wild "wish I could've seen them before they broke up"...) and then Three Days with the dancing girls.

AWESOMENESS!

And if that wasn't enough!

Nine Inch Nails with an incredible setlist! Trent going wild in the first few minutes and knocking the keyboard off the stage! What a start! Including later further throwing microphones and guitar!!!!

And then... GARY FUCKING NUMAN!!! OH YES!!!!

Metal was amazing and then just when you think the crowd can't possibly go any wilder - Cars begins!

I couldn't breathe during The Hand That Feeds and Head Like a Hole because the crowd were going absolutely crazy jumping about and singing!

And finally Hurt. I cried, I couldn't hold it in any longer. The crowd sang along beautifully, lighters and phones held high, emotions rife.

Thank you so much for this experience.

I will treasure this memory forever.

Love always,
bruised and happy

[quote 117]So, my first post on the NIN board, thoughts on my first ever NIN gig:

...Also I thought NIN weren't quite loud enough and were lacking a bit of bass in some points (I was stood dead-centre, about 2/3 of the way from the stage to the sound desk).

My 1st message too - I agreed re. the sound - the show was great but my ears aren't ringing now so clearly, having been very near the front speakers, they weren't loud enough. Shame that whenever I see NIN they don't do the amazing lights / projections etc. that I see on YouTube and their VHS / DVDs? Prob. won't get to experience this now. LOVED it when Trent, early on(!) pushed keyboard off stage and ran into the drum kit! sad smiley

3 rows from the front? Grabbed Perry's hand? You must have been right next to me...

I didn't enjoy all the pushing and shoving from the crowd at the begining, but it actually became less and less as the show went on (I started 3rd row from the front, got slowly pushed to 6th, then ended up on the 3rd row again confused smiley) but it's what I signed up for when I beelined straight to the front.

I really enjoyed Janes Addiction too, they are brilliant performers, although I diodn't know half the songs and event he ones I did know I couldn't recognise :/

I enjoyed Mews performance too. Everything weas just brilliant!

Best song performance? Non-Entity and La Mer.

There was a song that sounded like there was a woman o women in the chorus what was it? I can't find it so I'm guessing it sounds completely different in concert than it does on video

Could it have been the "uh-uh uh uh uh-uh uh-uh-uh" during the verse of I'm Afraid Of American's?

Can't think of any chorus's that it could be. Trent sings at a higher octave in Heresy, but again it's the verse. smiling smiley

btw, Numan's playing on Sunday (19th0 at Lovebox fest in Victoria park and also on the 25th July at Shepherd's Bush Empire.

This is lovely reading everyone's exprssions of excitement and joy ^^ is there anyone here from the indigo2 parties? and where was everyone here during the concert? I LOVED my place.. my friend being scared of heights got us moved the lowest balcony right next to the stage, with backstage views of everyone wandering on and off.. I got very excited when I realised that, but silly Trent face went on and off from a entrance behind the stage sad smiley I'm very happy that they did La Mer, although it has come up often in the previous setists for this tour, I think, has it? haha. Was praying for In This Twilight, but, we got Gary Numan! smiling smiley

to comment further on mikeheenan bit on why they werent in a smaller venue, maybe it is because we dont get the epic productions over here and so arenas can have that production. im sure brixtons roof cant hold all those lights....

so u get intimate or production cannot have both!?

oh also, i think Nine inch nails has the best community of any band ever! i met alot of people in both manchester and london as well as on the way from one venue to another. none were rude or arrogant and all open to talk no matter how much or how long a fan someone was. Thank you

its also probably down to scheduling - they probably couldn't fit 4 nights at brixton in. despite my moaning about the venue and getting in to it, i guess at least lots of people were able to enjoy the performance.
