I can sincerely say that last night was the greatest time I ever had.

The setlist and performance was golden and to witness it all including Gary Numan on stage with the band is indescribable.

This has to be the greatest GIG I ever went to. I was totally in awe for the entire show! And I still can't get over we got Gary Fucking Newman!

And I have to say, that is the best nights sleep I've had in such a long time, I was so knackerd after the gig.

To have it all come to an end seems to do that... especially after building up to this show for months.

I'm surprised at how emotional an experience a NIN show can be... I usually go to metal gigs around London, which for me is usually just straight up aggression, but the NIN experience was very different. I wasn't crying over 'Hurt', but seeing Now I'm Nothing, Down In It, Hurt, and Burn performed live does trigger an emotional response.

As lame as that may sound when written down, heh.

One of the best nights of my life. Topped it off stood next to the Thames looking at the lit up skyscrapers in Canary Wharf. Perfect end with the wonderful buzzing of the ears that I'm sure everyone went to bed with.

It was the first NIN gig for me after following them for years and also my first big gig. I really hope he tours again after a couple of years break. They deserve a break, Trent in particular.. but I still feel they have a lot to offer. My only regret is not saying hello to any strangers. Far too shy sometimes for my own good. Everyone seemed really friendly.

A few small gripes, the late opening of the doors mainly and the drink prices. But other than that, it was incredible. The rush for the tube was fun. Had to admire how orderly the queue for "Gate H" was prior to us being moved to the doors. Got my Janes t-shirt, even tho the guy who served me didn't know what "Janes Addiction" was and had to ask me "Is it the one with the (makes breasts jesture at me)".. "Yes! That's the one!".

Loved every minute of it. Was sad to see the night end. Come back soon Trent.

The O2...
Y'know, 24 hours later and I'm still thinking about this gig.

Newman was a great and fun surprise, set list was just peachy.

Hell, I even moved seats (man, if anyone ever goes to the O2 and ends up in the gods, don't go! Janes looked like munchkins from where I was originally), a bit of old skool blagging did the trick.
Beer flowed, new and old fans rejoiced, JA were great to see again after ooh, a million years or so.
But the big thing that struck me? Thing I keep forgetting? Those guys filled the O2 with no record company contract.

Thats impressive.

I've been a fan since a mate of mine brought back a cassette (!) of Pretty Hate Machine from Canada back in the late 80's. So this is the beginning of the end? Yeah sure, why not? Old rockers don't evolve by doing the same thing forever. The future? GHOSTS I-IV live please.

Like everyone else here, I've been to see a lot of 'well known' rock / alternative bands perform live and speaking critically I think this gig was a very good example of excellent, if not perfect musicianship by our friends across the pond. All of the bands were quick to the stage, exercised their showmanship profoundly and were tight. It is the best gig I've been to so far, pipping APC closely at Southampton Guildhall, back in 2005. NIN and JA did an excellent job of pleasing the crowd and taking everyone on a great journey through their set lists, which were both full of a wide range of their material. Both bands ripped it up and had fun, so what more can you really ask for?.

The only criticism I have to make is that there was a bass sample that managed to blast people ten feet back from the stage during the end of one song in NIN's set list... (cast your mind back). While intentional or not and judging by the whole audiences reaction ("holy fucking shit" mostly), it just showed everyone how good NIN really are at making thoughtful and impressive show with limited planning.

Bravo.

I nearly didn't make it to this, I was sick off work and only just got the doctor's approval just in time. I got to the box office 10 minutes before it closed after screwing up my train journey and missed Jane's Addiction and Mew, unfortunately. I got there about 20 minutes before NIN came on though and I'm so fucking glad I decided to go.

NIN were awesome, heavy and intense as hell, and the lightshow damn near blinded me. I got a pretty good spot to stand, although I'm not sure my short arsed friends liked it there so much. I would have been happy with pretty much any setlist, but hearing Wish and Burn were highlights, so was I'm Afraid of Americans and I shouted myself hoarse in Head Like A Hole. Gary Numan turning up was an unexpected treat and topped off a great gig.

Cheers Trent and Co, I'm only sorry I might not ever have another chance to see you again.

Why's everyone going on about how awesome the setlist is? Hate to wee on your chips here, but the ONLY time London gets to see ANY SONG from "Year Zero" (after it came out), "Ghosts", and "The Slip"... and we get two songs? No. It was a nostalgia setlist. Intersting, brilliant... BUT too many old songs.

I'm not knocking the performance, or any of the arrangements. All I'm saying is that the setlist was too retrospective, and only one song from the past two albums is a bit Rolling Stones. It's not even as if "The Slip" is rubbish : it isn't.

Oh, and to the 19,800 people with cloth ears : Jane's Addiction are brilliant. Don't get stroppy if people want to go down the front and enjoy the show when they're on. and don't wear flip flops to the gig. If you want to stand stock still and make Perry feel as if he's playing in a morgue - go to the back.

Overall, almost perfect. Almost.

fucking hell some of you guys really over-analyse every little detail.

my highlight tracks from last night had to be now im nothing , the becoming and metal

o2 is a good venue - crowd was great also - had to move back a bit on some occasions though

Last night was soooooo much more amazing than 2007 at the Carling and it takes a lot to top a carling Academy Birmingham gig in my books lol
If I have to go through life never going to another live gig, I think I can still die happy! haha

07/16/09 2:55 PM

Opening with "Now I Am Nothing", genius. That song is the hidden gem in the NIN canon, always baffled me why it never made an album. Started the same way the first NIN gig I ever saw did. And Robin is, as I've always thought, a brilliant guitarist.

Disagree with the above. We would have had Echoplex (most likely) had it not been for Mr. Numan, and I know what I'dve rather have had - because we wouldn't have got the LITS set-up, so I guess we're just left with what (IMO) is an average song (or songs if they'd have done anything else off of The Slip) by Nine Inch Nails standards.

For me, if you're gonna deviate from TDS and The Fragile, it's gotta be something like Me, I'm Not, which I think we're all in agreement about.

But hey...the subjective appreciation of aesthetics rules all.

07/16/09 3:46 PM

I saw Rob quite a few times on stage with his HD camera, so I very much hope some of that footage makes it out there one day. It's very good quality and he was getting right in with the action. Now to go to bed in the hope I wake up able to put into words the gig for the friend who introduced me to NIN years ago.

07/16/09 3:48 PM

Only recently got home after spending the day in London [Hollowgirl thinks that the post show depression is kicking in now]. But wow what a f**cking awesome night, glad I got in early so managed to see most of Mew and all of Jane's Addictions performances, and Gary Numan was fantastic smiling smiley
Was my first NIN gig and hopefully not my last. Every song was amazing, Downward Spiral and Hurt especially, almost wanted to cry it was so moving. Wish I'd gotten nearer to the front (me being vertically challenged lol) but can't really complain as I was only about 10 rows from the stage, down in the pit near Robin, where I was cheering and singing and ecstatically crazy smiling smiley
Yup it was a great night (thanks Mr.Reznor) and I shall remember it FOREVER.

07/16/09 3:51 PM

'To the teenagers behind me wearing flip flops: sorry if my massive DMs mashed your feet up but, to be fair, flip flops? On the floor? Right down the front? They're not the ideal choice of footwear in any situation but in that context they were a piss-poor one'

lol.
why the fuck would anyone wear flip-flops to a fucking gig especially if they're standing, dickheads.

Awesome! Absolutely fucking awesome!

I went to both Manchester and London gigs, and so glad I did. Unfortunately I was about 3 rows away from the ceiling in London.

I'd have to say the first time I saw them in Brixton in 2007 was better, but I certainly can not fault the larger gigs.

As for that post gig depression, oh hell yes! Especially as I look out at the O2 Arena from work every day and will forever be reminded of that gig!

Oh, and to the lighting guy! You are fucking brilliant! Well done!

07/16/09 4:26 PM

IT was so bloody awesome, the audience, i disagree with everyone hating on the strobe lights, I loved them ^__^
It made everything so much more amazing
^_^
Loved it

07/16/09 4:27 PM

Just have to say again...fucking awesome!

Thanks as well to those who came to the meet up at The Slug, we had a fun chat, hope we can meet again sometime!

07/16/09 4:29 PM

Great show! So thankful I got to see NIN play in Europe...much better than my last NIN show in Virginia Beach (With Teeth Tour) - UK crowd made the difference.

Wish I had been in a different section - 118 was close, but you had the side view so I didn't get the full lighting effect. Loved Now I'm Nothing and I'm Afraid of Americans...can't wait to get downloads of those songs...someday...

And for the idiot sitting behind me who couldn't stop making stupid comments during Hurt...stay at home next time!

Trent said that the sets weren't going to be geared to the casual fan. To the majority of people that means "Older stuff, less singles".

07/16/09 4:35 PM

now i'm nothing... it was the first time i saw them perform it live... amazing.

the rest of the show was really intense... i don't the like the 2 hours set with no encore at all but i accept trent's will. it really looked like they gave all they had during the nearly 2 hours so i was really happy when it was over, with no regrets at all.

other highlights the fragile, the big come down, the becoming... the setlists are pretty much the same during this tour, the difference is made by the band and yesterday trent seemed pretty pumped smiling smiley
