Of course you are going to have the random drunk guy yelling one thing during hurt but that happens at every show. There was some chatter during LITS but it didn't bother me since it was far from me.

Great fucking show and peter murphy on the balcony of the venue was priceless! This is a BEAUTIFUL venue and I was happy they were using it as part of the show.

Let's see what Saturday's show at Aragon has in store.

Maybe I was one of the video guys around you. Were you in the left closest occupied balcony? Guy behind me had a pro looking camera and was getting great pix leaning around balcony, near mic spot.

My video (Flip Ultra HD) is OK, but now kinda wish I had something much better (not sure what though, and while cameras were perfectly fine, I don't think they would have been cool with a big videocam).

Yeah, I remember you! I am also curious to see how the other guy's video turns out.

Thanks!

show was unbelievable, amazing, epic...best, all the above. c'mon with the complaining...of course you will have assholes talking, drunks walking around etc....you really should not let it ruin a night like this. The band rocked for 2 fuckin hours for Chicago and people would rather complain about a couple drunks around them...c'mon guys. I have been to countless, countless shows, concerts and at everysingle one.......even in other cities, these people will always show up....
Enjoy it, be thankful that they even decided to come to Chicago again. Thought the crowd had pleanty of energy, sure people got tired at the end since it was 500 degrees in there and nin rocked for over two hours straight,

...bottom line, I had a great time, the band was amazing, great way to go out I will remember this night forever!!!!

Your pictures are AMAZING. That one of the drums w/ the purple lighting is gorgeous...I think it needs to be the bg of your computer! winking smiley

Thanks for your input about where to stand...I guess I'll just have to feel it out when i get there! If I don't have room to freak out/move around I might go crazy.

To all those wanting to know (for tonights show) if the pit was rough...well, yes. I have seen nin about 15 times in my 20 years of nin (mostly '06 and '07 tour) and this was one of two times I thought I could not hang. I kept loosing my footing from the massive shifts, had people behind me pulling my hair and was squeezed so bad by people (not rail) that my ribs were in pain. I was about 7 or so back and this was the only time I ever left the front and yes, I am mad at myself but I felt tremendous pain and I wanted to enjoy the show. Heard it let up during the slow songs but I couldn't get any closer than 40 or so back....I don't know about the right of the stage but stage left Tr's left) was rough. This is where I normally stand and I know it is always rough but the squeeze this time was what made this unbearable. And this is coming from a seasoned NIN fan.

But the show was amazing....just amazing. smiling smiley

Thanks! I normally do professional photography, so using a point and shoot from the pit is so not my game. So, they're not "great" to me, but I am not terribly disappointed with them for what they are smiling smiley

I saw somewhere that there was connies pizza at the show or something?

Can someone explain this?

Great show.

Cool venue, except the security people were totally uncoordinated! We got in the Ticketmaster line fairly early-ish (5:15), so the place was mostly empty when we got in. I'd never seen a show from the balcony before, so decided to try to get a good spot to film from, but all the good seats/spots were already taken. So, a group of us converged at the handicap balcony. One security person said we were OK, but would have to give up priority to someone in a wheel chair, which we all understood and agreed to. Then someone else told us we had to leave. A third person told us we could stand behind an "imaginary" boundary (I think that was Cathy, she was nice). Then some other ass hole told us we had to leave, and he was pissed. None of us bothered getting bent out of shape about it - no need to get kicked out or anything - but they should have roped it off from the get go - because by that time (Mew was on), we had nowhere to go. Obviously this has no reflection on NIN whatsoever, but just how inept (most of) the security staff seemed to be.

I suggested that my friends go to the floor, while I was going to hope/search for a spot to tape the show from. After Mew finished their set, I found an empty chair behind a pillar, but right by the balcony in the back (where they had all the chairs lined up). I made a few friends and after making sure I wasn't blocking anyone's view, everyone was cool and was OK with me setting up my camera!

I ended up taping the entire show EXCEPT for Hurt - I ran out of tape. I have an external mic so I hope the audio came out better than it would with the built-in. I cant wait to get it home and see how it looks.

This once again goes to show how much the fans kick ass. Every NIN show I've been to, I run into really nice people and make new friends. I'm going to miss that. I ran into people from Texas, Montreal, California, and locals from the Chicago area. Yes, there's always some ass hole in the pit - but more times than not it seems, a bunch of fans team up and push the drunk ass hole somewhere else.

There was a lot of chatter during LITS, which seemed a little disrespectful. There was a pretty nice mosh pit on the right side towards the stage - again, I'm not used to seeing shows from that perspective so it was cool to do so and think "WTF, I'm usually down there?". The sound/light engineer at the board was jamming out the entire show.

Great set list, good times, and cool seeing Peter Murphy first up on that balcony - then come out and jam. Saw him last on stage w/ NIN in Pittsburgh and that was pretty damn cool.

For all those folks going tonight - have fun! I head home for two days then it is out to LA to end this. sad smiley

PM me if you are interested in my video. Might take a while for me to get it transferred and posted, but it will happen.

Not sure but that might have been me? Well either way, I got everyone's contact info. I was sitting in the "obstructed view" chair between the two folks from California. I was leaning around with my camera to get my shot.

Edit: probably wasn't me, I was left center at the rear balcony. We should trade video/links, I'd like to see a different vantage point.

This was hands down the best concert I've ever been too! They pounded that stage... tears spilled over my face, Peter FREAKIN Murphy!! Thank you, Trent!!! The show at Northerly Island was great but the show last night was so much more intense and emotional... it was a little disappointing that the audience was a little less into it then in May. But who the h*ll cares about them!! I danced my a** off and I didn't break any bones this time!!

You have always been and will forever be what music needs... break the chains, push the envelope and F**K THE MASSES!!!

Love you NIN, Chicago will miss you terribly!

08/29/09 10:55 AM

AMAZING show...I agree with the comments that the crowd was kind of meh, but that never stops me from having a good time. If people can't let themselves go and give themselves over to the music that is their problem.

I hate mosh pits, but people should let themselves go nuts at least a little bit smiling smiley

All in all, Excellent show, Excellent set list, worth every red cent...see you all tonight!!!

Yet another amazing NIN show...I live in Boston and flew in for this show. I have seen NIN many times (I've lost count, actually how many times). But, prior to last night the closest I've been was 7th row (in a venue with actual seats). I once was second row for a soundcheck. Going into the show, I knew I wanted to get close and managed 3rd row near the center.

I was a bit nervous since I have 3 herniated discs in my back, but I really felt that I needed to have this experience, especially if this is the last NIN show I'll ever see.

The pit was very intense...I was absolutely squished...I had only one other worse experience: up against the rails at a Pixies concert in a small venue in RI in the mid-90s. That night I couldn't breathe at certain points. It didn't get that bad last night, but it was definitely uncomfortable. As a result, I confess that I enjoyed this show the least out of all my NIN shows. BUT, that had absolutely nothing to do with Trent and the band. They were incredible. I know the show was amazing. I do not regret though being where was. I needed to have this experience.

One guy behind me was a perfect angel and watched out for me as best as he could. The guy in front of me, though, started dancing and jumping up and down when there literally was no space to do so. He started to really get on my nerves. I was psyched too and would have loved to have danced, but I didn't do so out of consideration of those around me.

I was also a bit annoyed by the people singing around me, though I always get annoyed at this at a NIN show. I came to hear Trent sing, NOT you. Ah well.

My significant other got dehydrated and overheated so he needed to be lifted out of the pit. I then got lifted out to be with him. The security guys were wonderful. I told them I had a bad back before they lifted me out. They were very gentle with me. I was moved by their kindness.

After Matt recovered, we moved up to the balcony. We ended up in the area immediately to the left of the stage right by the VIP section. That was a major bummer of an experience. The people there were so not into the show. Two guys at the front were recording the show but looked downright bored and kept checking their watches. They really pissed me off.

When Peter Murphy came out on the balcony, I screamed and yelled and they acted like they could care less. I was in the perfect position to see him, which was cool. BUT, the sound quality upstairs was abysmal. I couldn't hear what Trent was saying between songs (which was killing me) and could barely make out the songs. I hope that the experience was better for other balcony folks who were in front of the speakers. (We were kind of behind and to the side of them, so perhaps that's why the sound was so bad.)

I cried when Trent waved goodbye and walked off stage. I am so sad to think that this is likely my last NIN show. It truly is an end of very significant era in my life. I cannot wait to see what music he makes post-NIN and I hope he tours again under a different project.

I also brought an old Nikon film camera with a 28-105 lens. I'm not too optimistic about the shots, but will share any good ones, once I develop the film.

08/29/09 11:21 AM

Can anyone share what Trent's comments were towards the end of the show? He began talking a bit more between songs. Because I was in the balcony behind the speakers, I couldn't hear what he was saying. Would *love* to know.

Thanks!

08/29/09 11:25 AM

^^^He was talking about how much he loves Chicago, lots of memories, and honored to be on that stage in front of all of us. He thanked the crowd for the 20 years.

That's the simple part of it, not word for word.

08/29/09 11:26 AM

it was a good show, but I agree with whomever posted about the fragile tour. that tour was fantastic...but so was the downward sprial tour.
i put this show as the 4th best of the six times i've seen them.

Best parts: Last, Eraser (I-fucking-lan!), Downward Spiral.

It was definitely worth going 4 hrs early to get a good spot in line, i saw everything perfectly and my sista got her merch easy. I fended off people, and I will continue to do so, seeing as I got there early (no cutsies). If I accidentally punched anyone in the balls who was trying to push, i'm only sorry I didn't punch harder.

The band was waaaay better than at Charter One. Again, we all could've used And All That Could Have Been, but he's forgotten he wrote that song, so that's okay. Hurt was beautiful, I wish people liked LITS more.. (Still feel Right Where It Belongs is best way to end any show on a whimper.) I do wish the surprise would've been Reptile in the mud, not so much Peter Murphy touching everyone awkwardly on stage.

P.S. I actually went to the Staind show the night before, and I have to say, the best part of either shows was when Aaron Lewis did Outside solo near the back of the audience. That was the loudest and most together I've ever seen a crowd..I'm not the biggest fan, but I even choked up at that.

Everyone can enjoy the show in their own way but I don't get why anyone would choose to spend so much time paying attention to how a few others were watching the show (unless you're in the pit and they are sending forearm shivers your way). Not everyone screams and yells when they are excited, some like to watch the action and just soak it in. To each his/her own.

Awesome show. Highlights for me were Last; (thought they would do all of Broken, but oh well) Something I Can Never Have just had me mesmerized until all this rage and self hate exploded from my head during the last chorus - what a fucking release. Lights in the Sky was amazing even with two retards near me talking about Incubus for Ford's sake!!!! Gone Still and Downward Spiral were also so moving.

The Aragon was a beautiful venue and for all of the bad stories I heard about the sound Mew (who I thought was excellent) and NIN sounded awesome by the soundboard - Robins classical guitar during Hurt was so wonderful - oh and hey, whats with the total lack of rhythm in clapping to Hurt? That sucked. I wasn't in the pit so I don't know about its intensity but I didn't see any evidence of the Aragon Brawlroom rep.

And the band. We are losing one of the greatest live acts in the history of music. They were so freaking tight even with all of the samples and different instruments being played. And Trent - an amazing showman and a brute force on stage! I will miss this band and its shows dearly.

Oh and Peter Murphy was super cool - great great theatrical stage presence and so very gracious to Trent and the Band.

Oh, hey, I was right near you about then-- a little left and behind, directly in back of the girl with bright red hair. Sorry for any errant elbows that might have gone your way, there wasn't much space to avoid it.

I'm glad that the people who got pulled out are posting and seem to be okay. Security was very nice about keeping an eye on us and giving us water throughout the set.

The opening was intense! Opening with Pinion and Wish is like getting kicked in the teeth in a GOOD way.

SICNH live has just got to be heard to be believed
Terrible Lie???? Quite possibly the angriest song EVER written.

The Fragile? I'm speechless

I thought Trent was a littles pissed at Peter Murphy, but then Tent said that Peter is basically in the band and they did an amazing version of Dead Souls.

I can go on and on, but this was the beast show I ever attended. By my watch they played for 2 hours and 15 minutes. There were times where I thought the crowd was singing LOUDER than Trent.

I was exhausted when it was over!

unreal setlist, fucking awesome show! i was about 15 ft back from the front, got hit in the head by one of Justin's water bottles. The people in the pit were totally cool, no assholes, made it one of the best concerts i have ever been to. I could not stop singing 1,000,000 after the show. I cannot wait for tonite!

Also - what was the situation with the balcony? Did those spots go fast once doors opened?

I had what I think was the best spot in the balcony. Stage left as far forward as possible (just about parallel to the front of the pit) on the rail. I took a lot of video (Flip Ultra HD so it's just ok). It filled up pretty early but there were already probably 200-300 people on the floor (maybe 10 rows). The view was awesome.

Can anyone that had a balcony spot offer a clarification to this? I was in the pit and it looked like 90% of the stage left balcony was empty the entire show. I assumed it was VIP only or something. I'm planning on trying to get a balcony spot for tonight's show and just wanted to see if I could find out more info in advance.

Where the fuck were you because I was towards the right, up front and everybody was fucking rocking out like this was the last show of the tour!

On a side note, more people liked The Horrors compared to Mew...but I thought Mew was pretty tight live. They sound amazing live and I'd probably go see them again, but I may have been biased going into this show.

it seemed like the energy shifted i was in front on the left - as soon as it started to cool off over in my area, i noticed that the left front was really moving good. but i must say every time i looked back no one was moving. Singing yes, but no moving. i didnt have any annoying ass talkers by me either so i guess i got lucky.

Well it was a good show from the little I saw. I was on the rail and have never been so squished at a NIN show, ever. I got kicked in the head early on, and during Banged And Blown Through started blacking out. The security guys noticed pretty quick (I think my head was lolling), and I had to be pulled out during Burn. "Watched" the rest of the show from the paramedic station. Great view of the equipment ramp. Made waiting in line for 14 hours totally worth it.

Yeah I'm bitter. :-P

Other than that: opening with the first three songs of Broken in order had me hoping... come Trent, you can do it! :-D

They put a video camera on Trent's light stand--the one in front of his keyboard--and I knew that wasn't going to last for long. Hope that guy whose camera it was had insurance.

People seemed really into it where I was. No chattering about other things, just being into the music. I wish I had seen Peter Murphy. Did he just walk on stage this time? Hopefully he'll be there again tonight.

I'm really sorry that happened...but were you okay by the end of the night? (I was right behind you)
