Did you people notice the line last night for TODAY'S show when you left??? There was at least 50 people on line trying to get tickets for tonight.

Yet another amazing NIN show...I live in Boston and flew in for this show. I have seen NIN many times (I've lost count, actually how many times). But, prior to last night the closest I've been was 7th row (in a venue with actual seats). I once was second row for a soundcheck. Going into the show, I knew I wanted to get close and managed 3rd row near the center.

I was a bit nervous since I have 3 herniated discs in my back, but I really felt that I needed to have this experience, especially if this is the last NIN show I'll ever see.

The pit was very intense...I was absolutely squished...I had only one other worse experience: up against the rails at a Pixies concert in a small venue in RI in the mid-90s. That night I couldn't breathe at certain points. It didn't get that bad last night, but it was definitely uncomfortable. As a result, I confess that I enjoyed this show the least out of all my NIN shows. BUT, that had absolutely nothing to do with Trent and the band. They were incredible. I know the show was amazing. I do not regret though being where was. I needed to have this experience.

One guy behind me was a perfect angel and watched out for me as best as he could. The guy in front of me, though, started dancing and jumping up and down when there literally was no space to do so. He started to really get on my nerves. I was psyched too and would have loved to have danced, but I didn't do so out of consideration of those around me.

I was also a bit annoyed by the people singing around me, though I always get annoyed at this at a NIN show. I came to hear Trent sing, NOT you. Ah well.

My significant other got dehydrated and overheated so he needed to be lifted out of the pit. I then got lifted out to be with him. The security guys were wonderful. I told them I had a bad back before they lifted me out. They were very gentle with me. I was moved by their kindness.

After Matt recovered, we moved up to the balcony. We ended up in the area immediately to the left of the stage right by the VIP section. That was a major bummer of an experience. The people there were so not into the show. Two guys at the front were recording the show but looked downright bored and kept checking their watches. They really pissed me off.

When Peter Murphy came out on the balcony, I screamed and yelled and they acted like they could care less.
I was in the perfect position to see him, which was cool. BUT, the sound quality upstairs was abysmal. I couldn't hear what Trent was saying between songs (which was killing me) and could barely make out the songs. I hope that the experience was better for other balcony folks who were in front of the speakers. (We were kind of behind and to the side of them, so perhaps that's why the sound was so bad.)

I cried when Trent waved goodbye and walked off stage. I am so sad to think that this is likely my last NIN show. It truly is an end of very significant era in my life. I cannot wait to see what music he makes post-NIN and I hope he tours again under a different project.

I also brought an old Nikon film camera with a 28-105 lens. I'm not too optimistic about the shots, but will share any good ones, once I develop the film.

Everyone can enjoy the show in their own way but I don't get why anyone would choose to spend so much time paying attention to how a few others were watching the show (unless you're in the pit and they are sending forearm shivers your way). Not everyone screams and yells when they are excited, some like to watch the action and just soak it in. To each his/her own.

Exactly. Sometimes I am jumping up and down, throwing my arms in the air and screaming or singing.... other times, I may close my eyes and listen with no visuals or just watch in awe.

Also - what was the situation with the balcony? Did those spots go fast once doors opened?

I had what I think was the best spot in the balcony. Stage left as far forward as possible (just about parallel to the front of the pit) on the rail. I took a lot of video (Flip Ultra HD so it's just ok). It filled up pretty early but there were already probably 200-300 people on the floor (maybe 10 rows). The view was awesome.

Can anyone that had a balcony spot offer a clarification to this? I was in the pit and it looked like 90% of the stage left balcony was empty the entire show. I assumed it was VIP only or something. I'm planning on trying to get a balcony spot for tonight's show and just wanted to see if I could find out more info in advance.

Yeah that was supposedly closed off for VIP, that's why no one was there. Not sure beyond that. But it was also kinda behind the stage so not sure how good the view was anyway.

Best NIN show I have seen! I was REALLY happy with the set list, he played A LOT of what I was hoping to hear! He can really rock songs off Broken still which I think is really great! I could tell he was really into the songs when he was singing them also which I felt released a strong energy into the crowd. I was in the front area and I have to admit that it was pretty hard to breath with being smashed against people the whole time, but it was worth it! The energy was GREAT and the music sounded awesome! All in all, it was a fantastic show, great way to end NIN, though I hope to see them again in the future! smiling smiley

08/29/09 1:31 PM

Amazing show. I worked my way to the 2nd row of the railing in front of Justin and managed to survive the entire show. Set list was a lot of fun, but the people around me did not really seem that in to it for being so up front.

No worries though, I had a great time. Just felt weird hopping up and down by myself for a few songs haha.

Was it me or was Justin WAY more into it at this show then the Charter One show? All of them really brought their A stuff. Saw Justin and Robin after the show and Justin said that he was "really looking forward to tomorrow's show."

So excited I get to do it all again!

08/29/09 1:33 PM

Was anyone else bored at this show ? I was second/front row rail, and halfway through I turned to my sister and said "I'm a little bored..." Every song he played I've seen before at LEAST 3 times with the exception of the duets with Mr. Murphy...

Dead Souls was by far my fav. song of the evening !!!

The shirts are awesome and the poster will look amazing next to my others smiling smiley
I just hope tonight is ALOT better :/

I will say I got to meet alot of new fans and I just wanted to say you are ALL awesome !!! Except for that guy in the pit who was pulled out and the girl ahead of me... (I would NEVER cut you off, for the simple fact that I am a NIN fan and I RESPECT other NIN fans, I would NOT want anyone cutting me off and stealing my spot at a show... so please if I run into you tonight DONT threaten to kill me again smiling smiley )

The show was great, but yes during "lits" i specifically had 2 girls right behind me talking about how they couldnt wait to go dancing at a club after the show! LOL! WTF!? Legends of rock are putting on one of their final shows and these cunts are talking?? But, i digress... This was amazing! 5 hours before the show, a girl contacted me and offered selling her ticket to me for face value and Im no dummy and took off, making a 3 hours trip to chicago from fort wayne. I got their an hour b4 the show, met the girl and her friends, and then drove back that night! and now im BROKE! HAHA!

Honestly tho, im glad THIS will be my lasting memory of my favorite band ever. The NIN/JA show I saw just wasnt the right way to go and Im glad trent and Co. did this for us... Favorites: OPENING with WISH!, last, the fragile, lights in the sky, the downward spiral and down in it! THis was my 7th and final show of NIN and they did songs even I havent seen before! it was AMAZING!! playing HURT at the end, i actually felt sad and like I wanted to cry. It hit me this was the end of an era and I was LUCKY to be apart of it. This was 110% worth it! THANKS TRENT!

It was a great show! But seriously one of the least into it crowds ever. I can't believe how many people were talking during "lights in the sky". For being one of the last shows I expected a lot more from the audience. Trent and company brought it hard tonight playing the best I've heard them and the audience was just like 'meh'.

Damn good show. When I knew the show was coming to an end I actually got sad--knowing every word of trent's would probably be the last i'd ever hear. Peter Murphy coming out was amazing, even not having a large collection of Bauhaus music I was star struck. The one thing that keeps me happy is knowing that Trent said he's still making music. Not touring anymore is sad, but understandable.
Yeah sure there were alot of drunk assholes, but nothing could ruin this night for me smiling smiley These two guys near me were going crazy because they couldn't find their friend who had weed, making their number one priority getting high; instead of enjoying the concert. I don't care what people do, but this is your last show, listen to the music!
I really hope there's a high quality video of this concert uploaded online, so I can go back to and watch hundreds of times--
The highlight for me was "Down in it", I sang louder than i have ever sang at a concert before when he said he was going back to the beginning and and I heard "I was up above it!". I really didn't think i'd have the pleasure of seeing this song, but my dream came truesmiling smiley
I hope people share their pictures and experiences on here--I have shitty pictures, but i can post some anyways hahahha
Thankyou Trent Reznor, my life literally has been altered because of your music. In a good way. I look forward to new music you may be creating in the future.

There were tons of people surfing. Being on the rail I saw plenty of people get pulled over the rail by security.

Dear Trent and NIN:

I've been a fan of Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor since I first listened to him in high school in 1989. I was always into electronic music (Herbie Hancock, Howard Jones, Thomas Dolby) and I loved what NIN was about. My sister was fortunate enough to see NIN on the first Lollapalooza tour of 1991, and I always envied that tour.

Over this summer I followed Trent for awhile when he was on Twitter and as the NIN/JA tour progressed across the US, I realized quickly this might be my last chance to ever see NIN live. Last night's NIN show at the Aragon Ballroom was the first chance I've had to see NIN play, and have to say that I walked away from that show a changed person.

I enjoyed the show from the relative comfort of the balcony, house right side, and had a pretty good view of the stage. Trent's performance was honest, brutal, and it almost seemed like he wasn't letting himself have too much fun. I'm not sure how many times he must knock down things on stage, but I remembered he's sorta prone to that. Anyone know how many keyboards/stands/tambourines/guitars the band breaks or repairs on a typical tour? Anyway...

There were huge highlights for me - starting off the show with Wish was like planting a bomb in my chest. And watching Trent sing Hurt was like attending mass.

For me the show was very special because it completed the arc of music that I'd always really admired. It seemed that people were there to genuinely have fun. I attended the show with a good friend whom I'd known since 1989, and felt a part of a real community. Funny thing: the crowd at the show *did* seem to be drinking a bit, but the vibe was very friendly. I remember remarking about about people's t-shirts (I wore Helmet) and suddenly a guy wearing a Michael Bolton shirt walked through - we all stared in wonder. Nice times. The pit (from the balcony, ok) seemed chaotic but not dangerous. People were helping each other out.

It was great to see Peter Murphy, and he and Trent's conversation seemed really heartfelt. The rest of the band was really on, and I like to see when musicians "get out there" and let the audience see what you're playing. I was sad to not have an encore though... surprised, really. Perhaps that's for tonight's show? Oh well.

So, this is sort of a long shot, but I just wanted to write this today to I. remember the moment, and 2. hopefully convey a message to Trent and the rest of Nine Inch Nails: thanks for a great show last night, and thanks for the music that you've created. Your music has been at many times over the last 20 years, the soundtrack to my life. I want to let you know that your music has now become as much a part of me as my hand or my foot. I have you to thank in a way for providing me with the support, solace, and stamina that I needed at those times in my life they were lacking.

Lastly, I'd like to say that I hope you are able to connect with more of your fans. I really enjoyed following you on Twitter, but was so very upset when you stated you'd been put off using it for all of the negative garbage that you got crushed with.

Thanks for 20 years of great music - I hope that there is much more to come.

Yours,

Oh man, I forgot Trent's solo on the thumb piano during The Wretched was totally awesome. No other hard industrial band would do that for real, it would be a sample or something. But moving from the keys to the thumb piano was truly great! Its these little things that really just blow me away about Trent and NIN. Man, I'm getting choked up now.

08/29/09 3:07 PM

That show was fucking awesome. I was drifting around the mosh pit for awhile, made new friends..some enemies, may have unintentionally creeped out some girls, had nice lil moments with others..but other then that, "Down In It" was the best song they played, seemed to have gotten the best crowd reaction..I was dancing to it, it was awesome. I was also extremely excited that they played "Head Down" and alot of others off The Slip. REALLY wish I was going to tonight's show was well.

08/29/09 3:16 PM

That whole experience was surreal. Just walking in and seeing the crowd and picturing in my mind what was about to happen was almost more than my mind could handle. I can sit here and say I wish they would have busted into You Know What You Are? and The Perfect Drug, but there is no reason to ask for more than what was given. I wasn't willing to let go during the initial Wave Goodbye run, but now I truly believe my (possibly) last experience with NIN was at the absolute top of their game. I can't describe the emotions that were running through me during Something I Can Never have, but if Trent were to walk off that stage and call it a career at that moment I don't know that I'd ever be able to go to another show because that would be the pinnacle.

08/29/09 3:16 PM

This was my 3rd NIN show. Saw them back in May also and I think the out door GA floor at the park had better viweing and more personal space for the ones that dont like to get too close to the rail . I think this show was just as good as the one 3 months ago. Only thing I did not like was the rear part of the theater, it was too bright and the cigg and pot smoke in the air was glaring a little off the light. diddent mind the smoke just the bright lights. I did notice alot of people talking over a few of the slow songs and it id get a little annoying. I think The GA crowd at the last show was more into also. regardless it was all good. Seeing Peter do a few songs was cool. wish, Mr Self dest... eraser, and closer seamed to get the crowd pumped just like they always do. Its going to be sad if this is the last NIN tour but I suspent that Trent, like everyone that has a passion for something, will return one day and not even miss a beat.. thanks to the fans thanks to the band and Trent. you officaly rocked the Summer of 09"

I agree with this sentiment....mind your own business and I will add "shut up" during the quiet songs. That's exactly what I was thinking when Something I Can Never Have was ruined for myself and several others around me when a drunken a-hole was talking nonsense at the top of his lungs next to us during the song.

You can't have it both ways. If you agree that people should be allowed to drink/smoke/whatever then you have no right to complain about songs being "ruined" for you. Suck it the fuck up.

Just got home from the trip, and my ears are still ringing. My neck kills, and my whole body is sore. Hell of a show last night. It was easily the best NIN show I've been to (out of 4). Major props to the band. The energy on stage was fucking excellent. I just wish I would have gotten tickets for both nights!

And by the way, thanks to those posting pictures. I didn't bring my camera since I knew I'd be holding my poster (which is wrinkled, bent, and a little torn, but is even more awesome now since I can always remember how fucking crazy it was at the show because of it)

This was my first time waiting in line all day. Arrived at 9.15 and was about 30th in the nin.com presale line. Met some awesome people in line. Got annoyed when the line ahead of me kept growing. I sometimes feel like the only one who thinks you should have your entire party THERE when you arrive. Not fair for one person to hold a place at 6am for 3 others who show up at 2pm, you know? grah.

Anyway. I can't believe how grumpy they got with us about the damn line! Move up, move back, squish in, stand up, do jumping jacks. What do you WANT from us? sheesh!

Was totally stoked when we got banded. After that I was so nervous, I couldn't sit still. Don't think anyone else could, either!

The time finally came to go in, and of course they split us into guys and girls, and all the guys got through so much faster. So much for the line, eh? pfft.

Got my spot right in the crook of the rail in front of Trent, second row. STOKED! I was so damn excited about this spot, I thought I might pee my pants or cry or something. I did neither winking smiley I met some new cool people around me, and saw mooseknuckle himself (forgot your name here, sorry!) not far behind me, though he was in the Ticketmaster line. Shouted "Mooseknuckle!" at him, he laughed, and the girl next to me said "Why am I seeing ads?" YES! Genius.

Glad we didn't have to wait terribly long for Mew to come out. Did not really care for them. They weren't horrible, but they looked bored. One time the singer looked like he was going to cry. Dunno what that was about. I swear the two hours inside the venue waiting on NIN to start seemed longer than the nine hours in line waiting to get inside (which, honestly, went by SO FAST).

When NIN started with Pinion, I cried. I seriously cried! Then they moved into Wish and Last... I was FLIPPING out! Then they ruined it with Discipline. I was so terribly disappointed. You know they messed with us on purpose!

Over all, it was a GREAT setlist. The people around me DID NOT LET UP at all. I couldn't breathe (therefore couldn't sing) most of the time they were on stage. It was completely worth it, though, as it ALWAYS is. I am just disappointed that I was SO miserable when Peter Murphy came out that I don't recall Dead Souls much at all. I was to the point where I was mentally begging NIN to finish so I could get some relief. How sad. I hope that if they play Reptile tonight, I am not in the same position and can actually enjoy it, since I didn't get to do that with Dead Souls (a song I have been wanting to hear live). bleh!

I LOVED that Trent reverted to some old skool kicking and throwing of his instruments. I was stoked when he knocked over his keyboard and then threw his guitar across the stage! HELL YA, TRENT!

I think they gave an insane amount of energy. and I loved hearing Down in It finally. So raw! Tried to imagine what it would've been like back in the day.

Also felt like Trent was singing TO us down in front, rather than just at us... I swear he was looking people in the eyes most of the night. It was AMAZING. It felt so personal from where I was, that's for sure.

Loved most of my experience yesterday! Can't wait to go back and do it again today!

Great review! My feelings exactly!

Was it really 32 songs? WOW! Yes it was a rough pit for those up front. My wife and I were 3rd row right in front of TR. She was pulled out of the pit halfway through Wish because she couldn't breathe. Fortunately she found a nice spot up on the balcony where she watched the rest of the show. There were some vicious assholes using some of the dirtiest tricks to move up front, but what did I expect? This was NINE INCH NAILS! My wife said she spotted Mariqueen in a reserved area on the balcony. She said she was talking with somebody that looked like Trent's dad. Anybody else witness this? Overall, LOVED the fucking show. My wife and I got to chat with some real cool NIN fans while waiting in line to get into the show. Oh, and what the fuck is with the pirate hat dude? That is some head scratchin' ass shit I was seeing there. I heard he was there at 6am to wait in line. Hey, whatever. God bless ya matey! Glad your a NIN fan. We'll take ya even with the goofy hat. I took some video during the show and got a good hunk of the set. I'm uploading it to youtube now. Was really surprised by Closer! I think only the 2nd time it's been performed since the Las Vegas show back in December. Twice in one week, who'd a thought? Trent is one fickle basterd, and we love him for it. So glad to hear SICNH! Was hoping for Ringfinger, but am very satisfied. Can't wait to check out the professional footage they were shooting whenever it is released. Great show. So thankful to be a NIN fan. -fin-
