Epic show.

Was it just me...or did anyone else notice that once Peter came out that the mic levels were all out of whack? I couldn't hear him for half of Reptile, and then during Final Solution, Robin's mic wasn't even on.

what was on trent's sleeve earlier in the show when he had the long sleeve on?

Last night was good, but tonight completely blew it out of the water. Setlist was amazing, crowd was insane. For the first few songs I thought I was gonna have to bail it was so crazy. Stuck it out. Peter Murphy and JMJ cuddling put a HUGE smile on my face. This was a perfect night. Hung out with cool people, saw a kick ass last show. Got totally choked up during Hurt.

To the people who's shirts I was hanging onto for dear life (there were quite a few of you as the crowd moved) thank you for not kicking the shit out of me. To the person who was keeping me from falling over while I was jumping around during HLAH, much appreciation.

All in all, this trip to Chicago was totally worth getting lost trying to get to the Sears Tower. An awesome band, two awesome nights. Can't be happier right now. grinning smiley

I don't know...maybe it's because I have seen practically ever NIN tour since TDS in 1994, but I'm really mixed about tonight. Nothing wrong with the NIN and their performance, although I thought Peter Murphy's lack of knowing the lyrics to Reptile was a lowlight for me. Seriously, it was pitiful for what normally has been an incredible song to experience live. I'm sure the folks in LA will be pleased that he won't be making an appearance out there.

I guess I was too hopeful in that something that normally had gotten very little to no play at all over the years would have been broken out live tonight (Happiness In Slavery, Perfect Drug, Get Down Make Love, We're in the Together Now come to mind). I would have happily swapped out the covers they did for ANY other NIN song. Just a little disappointed that everything played tonight was pretty much the same old same old.

Props to the crowd, they definitely were into the show and reciprocated the energy NIN was giving off. Highlights for me would have to be Suck, Right Where it Belongs, and it was cool to hear Ruiner again.

Anyhow, off to sleep.

Later.

That`s what I thought. Was Peter ahead of the band on Reptile?

Actually, it wasn't his mic...he didn't know the song at all.

He sang the same bar 2 or 3 times

I think he either forgot the words, or forgot the timing of the words. I'm pretty sure he repeated a line. Was still cool to see him do the song tho.

I'm aware of the fuckup. This was during the entire song, as well as the issue with Robin on Final Solution.

Sweet, good to hear everyone enjoyed the show winking smiley

Just got back to the hotel. Wow.

We're staying out by O'Hare, which meant a long train ride which got longer when we found out while on the Blue Line that it's undergoing maintenance and we had to take a bus from Wicker Park to down town. Uhh..... well an hour and a half later we got to the Aragon for Mew's last song, didn't get any merch since what we wanted was already sold and probably saw the best NIN set I've ever seen.

I loved all of "The Downward Spiral" tunes with "Heresy" being a real treat. "Right Where It Belongs" was another nice surprise. I was super hoping Al Jourgenson would show up and sing "Suck" with Trent and then maybe play "Supernaut," but it was cool seeing Peter Murphy out there.

Made the day trip from Kansas City worth it.

Thanks for the show. I won't forget it.

08/30/09 1:43 AM

He did play quite a few songs he normally doesn't play, which was cool.
Sucks that P.M. got the lyrics wrong, many times, to such a good song.
I was somewhat close, on the right, but I'm short so the ppl in front of me obstructed things a good amount---so DAMN my neck HURTS!

I really had trouble hearing what Trent said during his 2 or 3 speeches. Did anyone get most of it? All I got was "we're still gonna play music" and something about Chicago.

I thought he was taking a break from NIN for a while...why the fuck is everyone saying NIN is over?

i personally enjoyed yesterdays show more. but none the less if i could have only been at one it would have been tonight simply for ruiner.

i saw you get yanked out. you were just up there for the longest ass time fist pumping, it was funny !

haha awesome. someone started punching me so i figured i overstayed my welcome and gave into the security guard, but not before flicking the guy off, well at least the guy i thought was punching me. sorry if i ruined anyone's experience but i've been crowed surfing at the Aragon since i was 14.

by the way if anyone has a red shirt from tonight for sale i'm interested. either medium or large.

08/30/09 1:51 AM

Was a great show! I was in the second/third row and it was surprisingly calm most of the time which I liked. Ruiner was my highlight, would have been beaten/tied by Reptile if P.M. didn't fuck up the lyrics so bad... After getting it wrong 3 or 4 times over the past week you'd think Trent or someone would tell him he fucked it up. It looked like JMJ was pissed at him for fucking it up too. Oh well.

08/30/09 2:18 AM

I'd love an Aragon Ballroom Tshirt, as they were all sold out. I'm a small!!

08/30/09 2:28 AM

That was an insane show! It seemed that the crowd was about 5X more into it than the night before. I was planning on taking it easy tonight, but when the crowd rushed, I ended up diving into the fray at the right-front again anyway, like the fool I am.

Can't sleep; wonder if my 2 year old will sleep in tomorrow...please?...

08/30/09 2:38 AM

The crowd tonight was waaaaay more into it than Friday night.

To illuminate some earlier queries, I heard Trent make statements more or less like this:

We're still making music, collectively as the band, we're not completely going away, keep an eye on the website.

You just never know what's going to happen when Peter Murphy comes onstage. [And yeah, what was up with PM during Reptile? Not good.]

When we first started out, Chicago was one of the first places we played. Cleveland sucked ass, but Chicago had a great music scene, Wax Trax Records was here, etc. I wrote this next song in Chicago - "Suck" (?? not confident)

only shame is i too missed out on the 8/29 shirt.

skipped the 8/28 with plan to get 8/29 and .... i guess everyone else did too hahha. these two shows together are a tremendous way to close out an era. 2 sets that could not have been more different even if they did share about 35%-40% of the songs.

for some of us that have been to tons of shows to have gotten such variety of stuff we've rarely heard was a true treat and a great thank you from trent to his fans.

and of course the aragon ballroom itself was as awesome as i remember it from many years ago.

what a weekend. what else is there to say.

08/30/09 3:13 AM

Oh god, amazing show. Words cannot describe.

I was too dead from rail the previous night, so I went up on the balcony, farthest left that they were letting people in to. PERFECT view. I was about parallel to the rail, right in the front of the balcony.

Right Where It Belongs SHOCKED me, and I was SO happy to get to experience it live. Amazing song.

Amazing performance by the whole band. Peter Murphy forgetting the lyrics to Reptile was *facepalm* worthy, but he made up for it by fucking around with the other guys onstage.

My group and I got all covered in corn starch before the show. The rest of my group was at the rail, I'm amazed they could handle it! I sure as hell couldn't, two nights in a row.

Anyways, AMAZING show. Great final memories of NIN live. I'm glad that it ended this way. Thank you so much, Trent, for doing this for us. It really means a lot to not only me, but every fan there. Thank you.

08/30/09 3:15 AM

8.29 was my 25th birthday and what a memorable way to celebrate it!

The show was great, we were sitting up in the left balcony, about 3 people behind the chick who hung something over the edge of the balcony. Had a great view from up there!

This was me and my husband's first ever NiN show and what a show this was! My only disappointment was that I would have loved to have seen and heard Closer live (any clue as to why that huge hit was left out tonight?), but oh well - everything else was AWESOME!!!

Because he plays it ALL the time. I was very surprised NOT to hear it.

NIN is NOT ending ppl! He said as much during the show AND he's also said "In 2008, Reznor decided to put Nine Inch Nails on indefinite hiatus. He later clarified that "NIN as a touring live band or live band that's on the road all the time [would be] stopping" after a comprehensive tour, but that he would continue to produce music thereafter."

Hey, I know that, hence why I said *NIN live*. Not the end of NIN.

Nice to see you enjoyed the show - I did too.
I'll tell you a secret - we almost canceled because I woke up sick and unable to talk complete with chills, etc. I spent all day sleeping trying to shake it but still felt terrible walking to the stage... then something happened and by the end I felt great. Weird.

08/30/09 6:51 AM

got back a little bit ago ... was falling asleep on the road but now that i'm back home i've got a bad case of insomnia. had a great time at the show ... can't really complain about the setlist, and i realize he's catering to different audiences among his fans ... but i could have wished for some really rarely-played live songs, or even one or two never played live before ... if it's supposed to be their last tour in their current incarnation, indefinitely. a warm place, we're in this together, zero sum, the great destroyer ...

might have to avoid setlists for the other shows, those already done and those forthcoming in l.a. ... don't want to find out he busted out a warm place for the first and only time elsewhere ...

Well, nice to know we made that better for you. Maybe this means you should keep touring.
