a time of a life...

thank you for all the pics and video

while in line i picked up 3 shirts for my anamaniacs as they requested and gave it to them on Friday...they each immediately put their "boot-T"...as soon as i got in, i went into the merch line; the line felt like a pit...chatted with a dude who was relocating to Virginia Beach but put off the move until this gig and some couples from New Zealand that extended their holiday until this gig...props to them for not missing out

my sis-in-law went to get me a beer and this was the first clue she did not want to be uncomfortable for this evening...got a tank, a los angeles poster and a palladium T

sorry about that. i was too busy trying not to get killed. that pit was INSANE.

haha no need to apoligize. i was doing the same thing. pit was insane. that was my first time i had ever been in there. and i figured its nine inch nails. there is a first for everything. first pit and first NIN show. def wont be my last as since i may get lucky with the fonda and wiltern show now.

read a review on on of the chicago shows. it said trent mentioned during the show that he would be working with this incarnation of the live band for some time to come. personally i like the sound of that as from what i have seen, they work really well together. i mean Robin has played before with Trent, but they all work very well together.

09/06/09 1:29 AM

haha oh man. been watching some of the videos and boy did it seem rough where you were. i was right along side of you and i didnt see that much trouble going on lol. especially the end of heresy lol. the funny noises were the best. after a certain point i didnt care about watching the show but waiting to see what else happened in your video lol.

For those people who are interested... I just created a YouTube playlist that plays all the songs in the order they were played at the show from start to finish. it's almost like being there again. (not quite though haha.)

Thanks Trent, I had a blast. It was a great show. Loved the energy. I hope you feel better soon... I was more than happy to say that NIN kicked my ass weds night. I loved it, there wasn't a bit of cornstarch left on me after i got out of the pit. Good crowd, and for being sick Trent killed it. I was a little sad that the show was cut short but I am NOT complaining and totally understand being sick. Thank you again for an amazing show.

It was not cut short. It ws played in full. If you look at the NY Webster Hall set list when they did "The Downsward Spiral" it is almost the exact same, but we saw Gary Fucking Numan! Below is the setlist from the NY show. We saw the exact same number of songs.

1. "Mr. Self Destruct"
2. "Piggy"
3. "Heresy"
4. "March of the Pigs"
5. "Closer"
6. "Ruiner"
7. "The Becoming"
8. "I Do Not Want This"
9. "Big Man with a Gun"
10. "A Warm Place"
11. "Eraser"
12. "Reptile"
13. "The Downward Spiral"
14. "Hurt"
15. 1,000,000
16. Terrible Lie
17. Metal
18. Lights In the Sky
19. Burn
20. Gave Up
21. Suck
22. Physical
23. The Hand That Feeds
24. Head Like A Hole

Hopefully this squashes the rumor they cut the show short.

Thanks to the couple in the balcony that let my freind who is a little person stand against the rail so he could see. I hope you were able to arrange a way to stay and see the Wiltern show on Thursday. It was nice talking to you both between sets.

Were there unique posters for each show in addition to the "Wave Goodbye" posters they had for sale? I rushed in to get a good spot and didn't check the merch booth until after the show was over.

Thank you Trent, Justin, Robin, and Ilan!

Hearing, seeing and feeling the entire DOWNWARD SPIRAL was amazing!!!

does anyone know the song that they were suppose to play for their encore?

There was never an encore planned. They did everything on the setlist. If you were there you heard everything you were "suppose to."

Fuck yes! I was in the pit the whole time, and had the time of my life!
I ALMOST touched him when he jumped in...So close.

Anyhoo...Best time ever. Great show. TDS!

And, I got a show shirt and a tour shirt to match my button. Sweet!

09/07/09 12:48 PM

I got a "Los Angeles" poster with all 4 Los Angeles venues but no dates and there was a Palladium T similar to the button.

my sister-in-law did not want to go on the floor at all...something about a friend snapping an ankle at a wedding so she stayed up in the balcony where you could feel the A/C and she saw the whole spectacle clearly...she marveled at each and everyone of you getting off to NIN

"Shock and Awe"...the look on my sister-in-laws face...

i found a spot 40 ft directly in front of the left-stack...sound was great for NIN but not Mew...Swirl erupted immediately in front of me and then it moved up when 20 ft when dred-locked homie picked up a "teryaki" burger and then carried her on his shoulders to start his Swirl again...

also dred-homie was feeling good before NIN came on that he made peace with a guy after he annoyed his date by offering him some beer...well, the guy downed his nearly full beer in one gulp...HAHA, classic

Other than almost being trampled in the pit I had an amazing time. Most violent NIN pit I've ever been in.
Gary Numan was amazing!!

For all those of who were in the front center part of the pit, like me, you know how F***ing CRAZY it got in there during the first few songs of the set. I've been to a LOT of NIN shows, but never have i been in a pit like that. My arms were literally pinned down to my side with no hope of moving them, and all of us were being tossed around like puppets at the will of the masses. Anyways, within seconds of the set starting, there were people begging to get out.

Surprisingly, this one big guy to my left (i'm glad i don't know his name, cause i'm sure he'd want to kill me for revealing it), was asking to be let out by the second song. My immediate thoughts were, how could we ever get a guy this massive out of the pit... so i went about ignoring him and videotaping the show. NEXT THING I KNOW, i look over my left shoulder and all I see is TWO fully unclothed, BIG HAIRY ass cheeks floating over my shoulders. It was disgusting and wrong. haha. But that's not the worst of it. As he was making his way over our shoulders to the front of the pit, his pants and underwear were getting snagged on peoples shoulders and heads, and slowly creeping down on him... so that by the time he go to the front of the pit, his pants and boxers were both around his ankles. He was fully naked from the hips down. HAHAH. The whole thing was just so wrong. The poor bouncer who had to pick this guy out of the pit, he probably had a face full of schlong..... sweaty, hairy schlong.

Anyway, i know no one will EVER cop to being this guy... BUT.... KUDOS to whoever you are for going down in history as one of my most disgusting concert memories !

Hahaha, I was right next to that guy on his right side. When I saw his ass fully exposed the next thought was that his dong was gonna be hitting everybody's head on the way out. I just kind of ducked and covered my head. I'll admit the pit was too much for me, I had to get out.

so about the show, what can i say but FUCK! greatest NIN show i've seen, even without any fragile material. The pit was insane. i only lasted through heresy, then bulldozed the way out for a chunky dude in a green shirt who said he was having a heart attack. he said thanks, he's very welcome.

i don't know why everyone is raving about Mew. I haven't been that bored since i got stuck seeing IMAROBOT open for somebody once. Terrible.

Gary Numan blew my mind. the last thing i expected to hear that night was "cars," and i creamed my pants when it was played.

on a side note, why do (barely) 5 foot tall obese or wafer-thin girls even bother in the pit? Every goddamn show this happens, and within half a song they're about to pass out. look, if you know you can't muscle your way out, don't fucking bother. And don't complain about terrible crowd conduct afterwards. Yeah the pit was extra rough that night, but it's your own fault for throwing yourself up front in the first place. PITS GET ROWDY/UNCOMFORTABLE.

HOLY SHIT MAN

That was me in the green shirt. Fuck that's all I kept saying the rest of the night, that I wouldn't have gotten out without your help. My sister had already been lifted over the front railing, so I was trying to find her too. My 7 year old shoes had no tread and I was just slipping all over the place and couldn't even keep my footing. Thanks a ton man, I watched the rest of the show from the balcony. I thought I was gonna pass out and get trampled.

Thank you so so much friend.

To everyone that shot video and posted it... THANKS!!!! Really awesome!

I gotta say that, even though there's other albums I like more and would have preferred seeing performed, witnessing TDS performed live in its entirety was incredible. To be a part of history like that is amazing. And what's really awesome is that once it gets released we'll be able to say we were there.

The show overall was outstanding. I like most everyone else could not tell TR was sick until he said something. Maybe I was too much in awe at TDS being performed right in front me to notice or care. In fact I think I was because I pretty much stopped moving, but that could be from exhaustion from the heat and sweat too. The whole thing brought back memories from the Self Destruct 94-95 tour.

Looking forward to Fonda and Wiltern, maybe I'll see some of you there.

EDIT: And having Gary Numan as a special guest performance for 'Metal" and "Cars" was sick!

1. Circuitry Of The Wolf
2. Chinaberry tree (not %100)
3. Introducing Palace Players
4. 156
5.  Hawaii
6. Somtimes life isn't easy
7. Special
8. The Zookeeper's Boy
9. Small ambulance
10. Reprise
11. Comforting Sounds

This is not in the order they played them at the palladium.. If anyone has some other songs to add, please do :-)

Mew's setlist for the Palladium show was:
Circuitry of the Wolf
Chinaberry Tree
Am I Wry? No
156
Hawaii
Hawaii Dream
Special
The Zookeeper's Boy
Sometimes Life Isn't Easy
Comforting Sounds

I'm pretty sure all of that's correct and in the right order.

I took a picture of the mew setlist on my Twitter (@tricil) don't have a direct link right now but check the timeline back to 9/2/09 (obviously)

I must have been in the absolute worst part of the pit. As others have said, this was also the craziest pit I have been in, particularly for how sustained the chaos was. Pretty weird though, because yeah I talked to some people after the show that weren't that far from me that had no problems. I was looking for a rough show, but this wasn't a good rough. No one was working together and there was absolutely no cohesiveness. You'd tried to hop with a person next to you and on the other side would get hit, smashed in, or the whole crowd would move and you'd practically fall over. Even during soft parts of songs or softer songs the crowd would suddenly cave in. It was very weird.

But...hearing TDS was great and Numan rocked Metal. Still, very glad I was able to go to Henry Fonda because this crowd really frustrated me.

And thanks Trent for sticking it out and still playing this show.

I saw those "YOU ARE BEING FILMED" signs when walking in, was this the only show being filmed? Does anyone know of anything official about that? Maybe we'll get 1TB of footage this time grinning smiley

09/11/09 5:43 PM

N E one know if they played the 'That's What I Get' break down during closer at the NYC performance of TDS?

When they did that at the Palladium, I almost thought for split second they weren't going to play it all...

The set lists from the last two shows were impressive, but

WE GOT TO HEAR 'the downward spiral' FROM START TO FINISH
