wow, I'm really glad you guys have IDed the DOUCHE. This guy was the first auction to go up for a scalped echo ticket as well, I harassed them over it back at the beginning. I wanted a fucking event shirt!
There's not much more I can say for the show that hasn't been said yet. I came in with zero expectations outside the awesome satisfaction that Trent decided afterall to throw some final smaller dates. After returning home from several ninja dates I had blogged/posted that perhaps a last round of dates would be a great idea for a final punctuation to the wave goodbye.
Didn't want to sweat the reality of the last minute changes bumping our show off of "last wave goodbye." I just was glad to be having the opportunity to make one last 1400 mile round trip pilgrimage. We could not have even made a single one of the other dates with or without reschedule.
The set was filled with moments of catharsis. It was a very unique collection. What defined it for me: Reprises of March into SICNH, Frail/Wretched, burn, head down, down in it/dead souls (done also at Phoenix date which was amazing). All the ones I wished to experience properly that I didn't from ninja dates -La Mer with the "finished/completed" intro (First heard on 6/3 with the song origin speech, as far as I could tell), Gone Still, Way Out Is Through... and finally the new experiences- Gary Numan & Ruiner.
The other songs were either ones I've seen MANY a time by now (Still enjoyed) or haven't enjoyed as much live (discipline, physical).
VampVertigo posted:great energy, some talking and giggling early, some shhh's n stfu's dispensed, the "epic" quietness to the end of Hurt...the HEAT, the SWEAT, a sardine can in a microwave...
Left destroyed
This sums up my final thoughts. I was just dead by the time Numan was up or shortly before.
I myself threw out of the few of the STFUs. Can't understand why some people only want to respect/worship their own rock god when he's being loud. Show a little respect, or go have your conversation somewhere else. I guess this was my one expectation coming into the smaller venue show, so I was very surprised that people were still talking during piano intros or excessively yelling. It's not your fuckin solo time, it's Trent's time. We don't need to hear your ridiculous-ass scream-singing when it's totally inappropriate to what's going on in the music. Learn some inner dialogue as well. Some asshat ruined beginning of gone still- His literal, loud comment: "Buuuuuzzzkill. I can't believe that just happened." Right over the top of the fucking start of the song. I try to give people a break, but I was in shock at this level of stupidity. Seemed some kind of sharp response was requisite, but I just wanted to forget it and get into the song.
So all in all, it was a really cool experience that completely broke me down. Maybe it wasn't the most epic wave goodbye set to be seen (obviously since the downward fucking spiral has been played twice now) but for me it made for an awesomely intense final stand for a year of nin shows. SLC 9/3/08- to LA 9/6/09
