I was amazed.

There was a lot of yelling and screaming during Hurt. I would for once like to see Hurt performed with no one yelling out or screaming. Can we all agree to that at the Wiltern tomorrow night?

they were the exception that I mentioned, by and large it seemed pretty damn quiet where I was on the floor.

There were some drunk uber preppy nerdy guys making a lot of noise in the back of the floor on the left. They were so wasted that they were all over each other. I thought I was about to see a nerdy gay orgy. tongue sticking out smiley

Great shots!! Some of the best I've seen.

Thank you and everyone else who posted such great shots and videos. My crappy little shots and videos are on Flickr. I have much better ones of NIN/JA on there as well as some from last Sept at the Forum. I didn't dare take my good camera to this event but I saw a kid with one just like it. Made me smile.

They were right in front of me. They seemed to freak out when anything related to TDS or The Fragile popped up.

It was like the cast of "The Big Bang Theory" were in the same room as Stan Lee.

Yo vieking thanks for the audio , it's cool to think to the piggies who are not living in us, and therefor could defenitly not be there, and make us share what was probably the perfect nin's show. Amazing for Mike Garson and it's great for Danny, i'm please to learn that him and trent are still friends. So thanks again to all the community and of course to Trent and his band for this amazing tour.I don't think we'll see something so intense on stage again. Peace and see you around.

First of all, thank god I was able to work out going to this show after the Palladium. It was awesome to hear TDS, but the crowd in the front middle at the Palladium was so terrible it almost ruined the show. The crowd at this show was fantastic...only complaint would be regarding the couple people around my area (a few people back by rob) that were just standing there. But overall the crowd was cohesive and just seemed in a great place.

Although I think all the covers/guests is a great way to reflect on 20 years, I found myself kind of wanting more NIN only. Can't really say that though when I was super-psyched about Get Down Make Love and I do enjoy Metal w/ Numan. Also, only 1 song from The Fragile, With Teeth, and Year Zero. Seems a little sparse. I also recall the sound being a little off for Just Like You Imagined (which I was still thrilled to hear), Dead Souls, and maybe one other song.

But back to the good. I had three songs I was realistically hoping to hear: TDTWWA, Sin (had only heard this once before), and In This Twilight. To get two of those was awesome. In fact, I remember thinking as soon as Sin started up that I knew it was going to be a great show because all the pieces just seemed to be together.

I also remember thinking how great the crowd was during Hurt (finally!). It wasn't completely quiet (although the final verse was close), but there was no annoying shout-outs and there was only some initial clapping towards the beginning of the song.

Very lucky to have been at this.

I think my favorite part of the night, that wasn't on stage is when the little douche next to me told his girlfriend all about NIN. She wasn't a fan and kept saying "is it almost over yet?" First time was about 45 minutes into the set.

The douche boyfriend said the following that I over heard:
During 1,000,000 "This is my favorite song on The Downward Spiral"
During Cars "Holy fuck I can't believe they are covering a Blondie song!"
During Hurt (this I laughed at) She asked what Trent was saying he replied "I burnt myself today, to see if I peel"
During Get Down Make Love (right after Trent said 'blast from the past') "This is a new song, I've never heard it"
During Dead Souls "This is from that Tim Burton film"
Finally (this shocked me) He sang along to Hand that Feeds... AND got the lyrics right, only WAY off key.

I am SO glad that I decided to come back out and miss another week of school! I have to admit that I was wondering if it really was that important to me and which one I would choose, school or NIN, when it came down to it. There really wasn’t a choice and I’m positive…at least until grades come out…that I made the right decision! Go NIN!! We even scored Fonda tickets on the plane!! It totally made my day. Ash hissing ‘Stand up! They can’t take off if you are standing!’ and me looking at her like she is crazy while telling her to hurry. I’m sure the people around us were going ‘what the hell?’ But, we secured them right as the plane started to move. Best start to a flight I have ever had and it just got better from there. Our flight crew was full of characters.

Anyways, on to the concert! Last nights show was incredible!! There were so many parts that I loved, you know besides the whole show, that it is hard to pick just one…so I won’t. Some of the highlights of the show for me were “Just Like You Imagined,” “Get Down Make Love,” “Piggy,” “Dead Souls,” and all of the special guests. Who knew so many musicians could fit on one stage at the same time, but they did! All of them were awesome and I enjoyed everything that they played together. Yes, I see a pattern…what can I say? I enjoyed the whole show, well except for the occasional elbow to the eye. Shit happens, though!

I especially thought that it was cool of Trent to give Mike Garson time to play by himself. It was a treat to get to hear him and I was glad to see that Trent came on stage to enjoy the song. But, my favorite part (yes, I am aware I said I wouldn’t pick one…I lied.) had to be when Trent came back out onto stage to tell the audience that it was encore time and that everyone should just pretend that it was it right now. A redo, if you will. Yep, that was my favorite part of the night. I just love when we get to see Trent’s personality shines through and his bow at the back of the stage was awesome for that.

Now I am super excited to see what they've got in store for Wiltern!!

Ok, I'll try to expand a little bit...

The PHM teaser opening was awesome. Cool to see them open with HLAH. As awesome a song as it is, the band always seems a little tired when they get to it (with good reason), so to have them open with it at full power was rad. The setlist was just astonishing. Some really cool surprises (I know everybody keeps talking about "Just Like You Imagined", but hey, it WAS fucking awesome). Hearing Garson and Trent do dueling pianos leading in to the closing segue on "I Do Not Want This" was mind-blowing. The covers were all awesome, and the guest spots were all welcome and lent themselves well to the sound and vibe. "Anthrax" was a treat - seeing HEALTH, Numan, and Avery all up there with the band was a blast. Just a goddamn ORGY of sound. Bringing out Danny Lohner was a great surprise. He seemed a little shaky starting off during Heresy, but as soon as "Get Down Make Love" started, he was thrashing about like his old self. Outside the confines of doing a show for a larger, more "casual" audience, Trent seemed like he really relished the chance to loosen things up a bit. He openly admitted to the crowd that he should have "rehearsed things a little better". After "Anthrax", he came back out for the encore, but then told everybody that the idea was he was gonna bring up the house lights and have everyone think the show was over and then come back out, but it didn't work out. So he asked the crowd to "act surprised" when he left the stage, turned the house lights on, and came back out. Quite amusing.

The crowd was mostly really cool. There was an adorable little girl with a nose ring who seemed to be flirting with me during (of all songs) "Burn". That was nice. She got up to crowd surf during "Gave Up" and I saw her no more than 5 minutes later back up front. Resourceful little chick, eh? A couple minor complaints: Given that it was the last show for a lot of people, I can understand why so many people were taking photos, but it seemed to take away from people just ENJOYING the show. And while people were full of energy during the "rockin'" songs, most everybody where I was seemed a little out of it during slower ones, and especially during the Numan tunes.

A quick note to pot-smokers: I don't care that you smoke weed. I enjoy it myself on occasion (and I do mean "occasion", as in, once every couple of months) and I am a regular cigarette smoker. THAT SAID, to those who deem it a necessity to smoke weed DURING the show: just knock it the fuck off. If I were to light up a cig during the show, I'd probably have my teeth knocked in - but somehow, someway, it's acceptable for you stoner retards to blow your cheap weed smoke in MY face while I'm trying to appreciate this, the last show I and many of you will ever see of an amazing band, with a sober mind? Goddammit.

Last thing - I went to the show with my dad who, for intents and purposes, is the reason I love NIN to begin with. He was playing PHM and Broken for me when I was only 10, so to go to the show with him was an honor. ANYWAY, during dinner before the show, we were talking about what made great music and great live bands. He had this quote that I just LOVED: "GOOD bands play WITH each other. GREAT bands play AGAINST each other." With the loosened vibe of this show, it felt like I wasn't just watching Trent with hired musicians (which I don't usually feel, but I know there's a pretty rigid structure to a lot of these songs) but rather I was watching a bunch of amazing musicians, at the height of the capabilities, enjoying the experience of discovery - though there were more noticeable "fuck-ups" in this show than any NIN show I've seen in the past, it's how the band just played off each other with such reckless abandon that made it so awe-inspiring. I'm glad they didn't "rehearse" more. It made the closing moments of the band seem all the more genuine, and made this particular show so unique for us fans. 16 years of fandom and 12 live shows later, I feel fulfilled in every sense.

Thank you Nine Inch Nails.

-Chris

that would have scared the hell out of me! especially since palladium had no encore. didn't go to that one though

i think the first encore segment of fonda had some of my favorite NIN moments of all time. i had been waiting FOREVER to hear heresy. get down make love too. just listened to the sin cd single the other day. then a total curveball of mr. self destruct, so late in the show! they saved some of their highest energy songs for the end. JMJ stage diving during the hand that feeds just took it over the top. btw i don't think anyone mentioned when trent fell over into the drum kit during HLAH, that was wild.

there's something special about your first time seeing NIN, for me MSG 94, but this show is my favorite of the 8 i've seen

I wasn't hating on the attendents. I actually felt bad for them because most people were just brushing by them without saying thank you or anything. And it was the selling of food that made me feel queasy.. not batteries.

I've only been to 7 NIN shows, but this one was by far the most amazing show EVER. I got there during Health, and by the time NIN came on, I was soon enough 4-6 people back from almost center rail pit. I came out from Phoenix to make it to this show, and when I heard about it being cancelled at first I flipped. And then it was rescheduled and life was dandy again, then I realized I had a job to get back to. Long horrible story short, I had to contact my job and gave them some lame excuse in order to stay longer, and they had to "take me off the schedule for now". I know it was irresponsible to stay for the show, but I felt that I couldn't miss this one for the world. And I'd do the same again for a once in a life time chance like this. Jobs come and go, life goes on, but I'm pissed. I was fucking fired. eye rolling smiley
