- venues rarely share alcohol sales.

there are other costs which i just can't think of in my sickly haze.

Your analysis is pretty close to dead on. Of course it really depends on the nature of the contract. Was LiveNation the promoter or was there a partnership between Nine Inch Nails and LiveNation? In a situation where LiveNation is the promoter and they own the venue it works out pretty well. Nine Inch Nails tells LiveNation how much it costs to get them to play that venue. LiveNation pays staffing, venue, and promotions costs and determines ticket prices based on that. In this situation Nine Inch Nails probably coughs up about 20% (and in some extreme situations 30%) of merchandise sales to the venue to be allowed to sell merchandise. In this scenario Nine Inch Nails is an employee of LiveNation. LiveNation collects all money paid for tickets and pays Nine Inch Nails what they are contracted which covers expenses of their employees and living expenses. I highly doubt that was the nature of the contract, however. The major thing that suggests this is that Nine Inch Nails is paid the same flat fee every night in that scenario, and that would cause a variance in ticket prices for different sized venues and the amount of tickets that can be sold (unless LiveNation figured all 10 shows and set an average ticket price, or decided to profit more on some shows than others). They most likely would have lost money on shows like Webster Hall and Echoplex without shows at the Aragon Ballroom and Paladium to pick up the slack. Anyone in Chicago knows thats true, otherwise Nine Inch Nails could have played a show at the Riviera (which sounds fantastic, but is only half the capacity). More likely is that LiveNation and Nine Inch Nails did a partnership deal. LiveNation has the venue and the security and sells alcohol to cover staffing, and gets a larger percentage of merchandise in lieu of venue fees. Nine Inch Nails would then get a greater percentage of ticket sales, but would most likely have to cover some of their own promotion. This would result in Nine Inch Nails take being different from night to night, but I really doubt that they lost money on the shows. I guess it is possible given the high calibre of staff they employ and the fact that they took an arena sized show on tour to clubs. Club sized ticket sales might not pay arena sized bills, but in a partnership deal LiveNation shares in any profits or losses, and I doubt they would allow a situation where they lose money. My guess is that Trent wouldn't care and he would've sold the tickets for even less if he could've.

I don't know, but he first came to us like he knew us. When he began to propose his offer, it sounded vague and my girlfriend & I looked at each other wondering where was going. He offered up to $60 for either of our wristbands, which we respectfully declined TWICE since we didn't want to risk getting ejected from the pit or not being allowed access back into it if we were to leave and come back. We felt like we were being targeted, like we were the only ones he could persuade, and he made lengthy proposals at that. I don't if he ever was able to get his girlfriend in the pit because it didn't seem to matter anymore since I ran into him again slamming around during Mr. Self Destruct and Wish.

Don't forget insurance costs on property and personnel, and any lost fees/extended fees after the cancellations/rescheduling for all the above.

Need to ask the NIN community a favor. Along with a few others I'm looking very seriously into syncing higher fidelity audio to my videos and then seeding them out as torrents. That being the case, I need to find some good audio to sync with. If you have recorded any high quality audio yourself, OR if you have come across somebody else's high quality audio please for any of the 4 shows in LA please let me know via PM.

Did they oversell the venue?? There were SO many ppl that were supposed to be in the balcony & didn't get a spot, upon trying to stand in various places got yelled at repeatedly by mean security women. I was being super nice, asking her where it would be ok for me to go, she just got madder. When I said m'amn I'm trying to work with u. She screamed I'm trying to work with u!!! I was so calm & polite & all I got all night was treated crappy with contradictory info from the security! It really left a bad taste in my mouth. The same thing happened to my friend. I'll never go back to the wiltern. I heard some ppl saying if they knew they were going to get stuck standing squished up in the corner of the balconey behind the whole crowd also standing up, to the point they couldn't even see, they wouldn't have bought tickets. They couldve listened to the show the next day or at least seen it on YouTube. I kind of saw where they were coming from, the guys put on a great show but for some of us that spent half the night getting yelled at for no reason by security,& not able to find a seat(I got to the venue early too!), but then yelled at that we had to find a seat????? It's like whhhhaaatt??!!

I've been a fan since the late 90's,& let's hope if Trent or the guys ever choose to do a show again, it's NOT at the wiltern.

Nine Inch Nails was a part of my life, something that will stick with me until the bitter end, to be a part of this tour is beyond my wildest dreams, volumes cannot speak about what that show meant to me. Running on two hours of sleep, skipping class, waiting from 6:30am 'til the end of the show, the sunburn, the elbow to the gut during Wish, and the new friends I made (Brian, Len, Jon Bonham, and Alley) It was all worth it, and will be a part of my life. again, Thank you for the memories.
