I never really wrote anything about the concert; I didn't really know what to say that everyone else wasn't already saying. It was a phenomenal show! Today I found myself thinking a lot about it so I figured I'd throw a little something up on the forum.

I was thinking about the show because I finally got my car fixed today. I was driving from Berkeley to LA very early the day of the concert. I was about 20 minutes from my place and I hit something laying in my lane on the interstate. It blew out both tires on the passenger side and jacked up the car pretty bad. As I was waiting on the side of the road for a tow truck I momentarily thought about abandoning the trip. It was 4AM, I had practically no sleep, and now no car. I then came to my sense and was like fuck that I'm going to make it to this show if I have to hitch hike! I got my car towed to a tire shop, waited until they came in at 7AM and then got two new tires put on. My car was seriously fucked up, 10 & 2 on the steering wheel was now at 1 & 5, but with new tires I managed to get back on the road by 8:30AM. I made it to the Wiltern about 1pm and thanks to my awesome +1 (thanks again Lissa!) who was already in line, I still managed to get into the pit! So the day after the concert I drove my car limping back to Berkeley and got it checked out. $3000 worth of damage! Turns out it was a pretty pricey trip but I would pay it again in a heart beat!

Funny how that is though. The price to see that concert came out to almost $3300 and it feels like it was worth every penny even though it's way more than I should have been able to afford. Then recently I was looking at going to a different concert. The price of the ticket was $75 +ticketmaster fees. I was shocked! This was a somewhat well known band (or a band with a big name in it anyway) but the idea that it cost that much to see them didn't even seem remotely worth it. I mean odds are they'd play for maybe 45 minutes, and I'd probably enjoy most of the music, but for $75??? Where do they get off charging that much? NIN played for 3 HOURS and they only charged $55!!! Paying more than that for a show that isn't going to be nearly as memorable just doesn't feel worth it.

I've always appreciated everything Trent Reznor has done for the fans, but after seeing that show I have a whole new level of respect for him. Other bands now have a hell of a standard to live up to.

I uploaded a few of the 900 or so pictures I took. With my crappy point and shoot camera only 1 out of 10 pictures turns out any good. Here are a couple of the better ones.

Okay everyone here's the latest:

Multi-Cam Project: I have something awesome lined up. With the help of a few members of this board who will be helping with video editing, audio mixing/muxing, and dvd menu creation I'm going to be heading a multi-cam project for the Wiltern show, and if results are good, for all 4 LA shows. The footage should be amazing, as we plan on working predominantly if not entirely with HD footage. The footage will be contributed from myself, emorency (benny blanco) , chaonotic, and efreitag, and anyone else who has quality footage they want to contribute. If you have quality HD footage from any of these 4 shows that you'd like to have be part of the project, send me a PM entitled HD FOOTAGE CONTRIBUTION. This thing is shaping up to look and sound spectacular.

Seeding my personal video files: A lot of people have been asking whether I will be seeding my video footage. The answer is yes. At this point, user Katiegonzales and I are working on both syncing & mixing some the best audio out their to my video. We're mixing the highest quality FLAC audio recorded by those such as coolerluzi and waxdoll with my own audio - The idea being to have host the highest fidelity audio, while maintaining the live feeling (especially given that my footage is all shot from the front of the pit. From what I've heard so far it sounds absolutely spectacular. To stay posted about when the torrents will be available just keep posted to my youtube HERE

File Recovery: With the help of our very generous community, I've collected almost 380 dollars towards the file recovery of the two lost songs from the Wiltern concert: Atmosphere and Dead Souls. I will myself be contributing an additional 100 for a grand total of 480. If anyone else wants to contribute though, I would greatly appreciate it as it would help reduce my out of pocket expenses. Big Thanks to Mooney, WistfulGirl, TotalSysFailure, and DaBooger who have contributed exorbitant amounts of money towards the cause. Not to mention the many other donations by others who in sum have contributed a large amount of money. Thanks guys !! And again, if for some reason the files can't get recovered, they promised not to charge us and I will be refunding your money in full.

That's it for now,
synthetik

EDIT - thanks to 'Bugatti' for a very generous last minute donation as well. Now we're ready to rock.

Great story!. It's true about paying for other shows now. I can't quite get my head around why anybody is even trying to sell tickets anymore. It's like after this... there is nothing else. This was such a valuable evening to be a part of. I'm completely fucked now.

To say the least, it meant something to me.

Wow, I can't believe your car was that tore up! But if I was in your situation, I would do it all over again. (Just like I'd wait in line for 12+ hours all over again, lol).

Kick ass pictures. Save my number, next time you're in LA we should go to another show!

Hey, I wish I had been front row center! I was actually at the very front of the section just above and behind the pit, and on Robin's side rather than dead center. I'm visible in your video of The Becoming on YouTube at around 4:19, holding the camera at waist level.

I'm also working to recover footage that my girlfriend and I shot of the Echoplex show as well.

Haha. Okay i was close. So you were front row OFF-CENTER-RIGHT floor (which was the area right behind the pit). look back up at my original post.

Mr. Fang, I need to know whether you have a MAC or PC.

Just in case my PM didn't go through:

I took some footage from the Fonda and Wiltern shows. Both were balcony, right side. Neither are complete shows, because I was trying to strike the balance of enjoying the show with my eyes and with a video screen on my camera. I've popped a few of them up on youtube, so you can check and see if you like the angle or if you find it to be viable, usable footage. Here's a link to one of them:The Becoming Fonda

I have more than I've posted(about 6-8 songs from each show with varying degrees of success). Anyway, you can PM if you might be interested in any of the files. Cheers!

...Preferably someone who knows how to mix in 5.1 and who lives in the southern california area (LA/OC). If that's you please send me a PM. We need your help for the multi-cam project.

[It's Official: an all HD, professionally edited/mixed, multi-cam of NIN's final show is underway]

Over the course of the past few weeks I've contacted every person that i could find who has any HD footage of the concert, and then... reached out to a team of professional editors and audio pros to see what we could come up with. And what we've come up with is shaping up to be fucking awesome. A soon to come, yet to be named professionally mixed, professionally edited multi-cam, multi-sourced audio, blu-ray of Nine Inch Nails' final show at the Wiltern, comprised exclusively of HD video footage (which we will also release in torrent form). I've heard the rough audio mixes and they sound stellar, and I've seen the rough footage and it will blow your mind.

Well I finally decided to write this story.Of all things I'm writing it on New Years Eve.

As I sit back and reflect on what was without question, the best concert of 2009,It may have just been one of the best concerts of my entire life.

I found out that the show originally was supposed to take place on a work day,and having never seen Nine Inch Nails before(I know shoot me)..I decided this time since it had been rescheduled on a non work day I was going to make it there by any means necessary. I flew from Las Vegas to L.A. on wednesday night and stayed with a friend who was kind enough to let me crash on her floor. She got up early to even drive me to the wiltern at 8am in the morning.A real trooper. Thanks to Robin for that.

As I arrived in line that's when I met Andrew and Rikki. We sat and talked and got to know each other and told stories and i could tell these are the people I wanted to be at the show with. Soon after Jessica then arrived and it just seemed to get better throughout the day. Although I'm leaving out an important part of all this. I still didn't have a ticket and about 11 is when I started giving up. My moral was disappearing but everyone else around, assured me I was going to find a ticket. My friend arnold drove up to help me, but wouldn't you know it right before he got there I found one. Chantale from Switzerland was kind enough to sell me her ticket and because of her I got to see the show from the pit. After knowing I was finally getting in, my intensity level was through the roof.

I had a cool lunch at whatever bar that was near the wiltern. Even with that yankees fan I met(i'm a red sox guy, first time that ever happened.)

Anyways once inside the show i started behind andrew and rikki but joined Jessica o the other side where Robin was to get a better view.It was an amazing time. As soon as they started I had goosebumps. When trent began playing "The Frail" into "the Wretched" she looked back at me and said "you're getting what you want right now" and it was all surreal. Every last minute of that show.I loved DEP and was like holy shit they're dismantling everything in site!! To think, I wasn't even supposed to be there, though the way things worked out, you might say it was supposed to happen.

At the end of the show I walked away with a setlist, without a fight, without a hassle the entire night. It was worth everything in the world and If i had to do it all over again I would.

Thanks to those who I spent the day with in line, including my friends I shared lunch with.Rikki for trying her hardest to get me a ticket and taking a journey with me to the bank. You rule.Andrew for kicking it with me the entire day and just telling some amazing stories. Jessica I almost don't know what to say, I had such a great time sharing that show with you, you have no idea. the other Jessica on the plane ride home(yes i met another Jessica and we ended up sitting next to each other on the plane to Vegas). Killer times. For my first and last time seeing NIN..it was truly a night to remember.

Thank You Nine Inch Nails,Thank you Nine Inch Nails Fans for being awesome.
