My imaginary Heroes-YZ doesn't have a walking plot hole Japanese guy either to be honest. Or horrible Season 2. Or a season 2 in first place.
Oh and it doesn't have many real heroes either.

Something loyal to the skeleton of the album and ARG would actually work great. Lots of different points of view, different fates. Something like 12 episodes, each starring more or less different set of people.
It wouldn't even have to get all Pulp Fiction on watchers ass by somehow tying the people together in overly forcefull manner or anything.

...Why is everyone (okay, 1 guy) so quick to demonize HBO? They have impressive as hell trackrecord.

ohh snap. That would be amazing if there was a show. However, i agree with some other people that i hope HBO doesnt shove their figurative cock into it and it becomes something shitty.

Im sure Trent wouldnt let that happen though hes a pretty original guy. When the game comes out ill be the first person freezing my ass off waiting to buy the first copy cant wait!smileys with beer

I think that some people may be wary of HBO because, while they do have an impressive track record, lately that have... a rather poor track record. The current head of HBO (I can't remember his name at the moment) is reportedly a very conservative fellow. He's been passing on some of the more edgy and out-there programming... you know, the cool HBO shit that we all love... in order for more... mundane, vanilla programming.

The biggest example of this is the recent axing of Preacher. Holy fuck (heh), would that have been something....

Showtime seems to be taking over for HBO in the crazy-out-there shows, with a charge led by the brilliant Dexter.

Back on topic... how bout that Year Zero TV show? I think it'll be more like LOST than Heroes. Hmm... maybe THAT'S what the Smoke Monster is....

can't wait to see this. with HBO it could be fantastic.
I was kinda worrying it would be a piece of shit like a load of teens struggling to cope with the world ending, yet having to overcome their own personal "problems" along with everything else, love will be lost, new friends will be found and long friendships will be tested. BLURGH, shite.

I get the feeling if there is a TV show it's going to be more intricate than simply 'a tv show' like Lost or Heroes. I would compare it more to a show like Arrested Development, if a gun was against my head and I HAD to make an analogy. Simply put, that would mean a great deal of planning and foresight on the behalf of the cast, crew, and writers in order to provide a cohesive series of scripts that involve foreshadowing and consistent yet almost invisible background details of the world of Year Zero- at least, that would be the ideal form the tv show would take.

It seems to me (in my personal opinion) that the best way to go about the show is to treat it at once as its own self-contained entity, and secondly as a companion piece to the rest of the Year Zero lore. Where the ARG and album essentially built the framework and drew the outlines of the story, the TV show would be used to simultaneously tell new stories in the same setting and retell old ones- or, if you prefer, it would 'fill in the blanks' or 'colour in the lines' of the Year Zero universe. I couldn't begin to guess what kind of stories are waiting to be told, but if I know writers (being a writer myself, I'm 100% envious of the people getting this chance) the ones who know about this should be chomping at the bit to tear things apart.

we can only hope that this happens soon!!!!!!!
please please please.

09/05/08 9:55 PM

As an aspiring screenwriter, if this happens it'll be more or less my dream job. Maybe HBO will need a temp or coffee boy or... shit, anything...

09/06/08 1:03 PM

i think the Survivalism video is a teaser for the series... There is so much happening in those four minutes.

09/08/08 3:03 PM

it would be more voilent than the Sopranos, but that is a good thing, violence is sometimes needed to hit an idea home

good luck T

All I know is that I wanted to see the movie as soon as I heard the cd the first time!

09/12/08 3:29 PM

I would actually fork over the outragous amount HBO charges just to see this. ROME was great, but ended waaaaaaaay too soon. I'd love to see a bunch of no name actors and a HUGE production budget (instead of vice versa).

I've been hoping for something like this since Year Zero came out!

09/12/08 11:08 PM

ill have to wait for the box set to be released since theres no way im getting HBO

hopefully trent will do the soundtrack

maybe they will continue the ARG when the series is released? that would be awesome

09/13/08 5:30 AM

hell yeah fucking works get for me i just got HBO. Although nothing comes easy for me. Since i have HBO it probably wont happen.

09/13/08 7:18 AM

You damn Americans, if you call Comcast and ask for me I'd give you HBO free for a year! LOL
Excellent idea.. the Year Zero show.. I'm antsy to see the result.

09/13/08 9:44 PM

I'll be jealous of fucking everyone that has HBO when it comes out.

Damnit!

The first scene of the first episode should be Nine Inch Nails performing one of the songs from the album and getting dispatched by SWAT teams (as in the Survivalism video), then on with the story. How'd that be for an introduction to a TV series?

Okay, but NIN HAS to appear, if only once, in some capacity. Even if they're kind of in the background or something.

09/14/08 1:49 PM

I think it could be really interesting to see what could be done with this.
I'm not so sure that it'll actually come to fruition, but I'll be excited if it does.

09/15/08 8:57 PM

I don't watch much TV, but I would make time for this. I think tracks from the Slip and Ghosts would fit great.

That would be cool.

It would be Awesome to see Neil Czerno's Story and John Of Boston, not to Mention, Angry_Sniper and The Spiders.

Wonder what the Bearau Of Morality would look like?

... i want this series, now and on dvd and so on...

09/17/08 6:00 PM

I think it would be kind of cool if trent did something like the ghosts film festival with this. like having people submit ideas for episodes, scenes maybe even storylines. or what if he fucks with all of us and somhow manages to make it an animated comedy. (stupid idea i know sorry for posting it)

09/17/08 6:36 PM

I will be so left behind like in Lost. This sucks because I already pay Way too much for cable already (for the kids).
I am very tempted but I do not know if I want to pay for HBO or just wait to buy the serious on DVD.
I wonder how much HBO goes for these days? It's probably outrageous like an extra $50.00 a month.

I almost have a bad taste in my mouth about this... I kinda feel like Trent is going too Hollywood and this could feel like selling out.

I'm not so sure how I feel about this whole idea. I mean, I went all Stendahl's with Year Zero to begin with, from music to artwork to arg, but I'm not so sure I want to see a plot strung into it. With tv shows you have to have these characters, and their storylines, and sequences-- as far as I can tell, the only way this kind of storytelling would work out is if each episode was more or less its own contained story. They'd each be like casefiles, little windows into what that world is-- pretty much the way the arg was set up with the continuing discovery of new pilgrimages.

So yeah, I think the stories and ideas behind all the "people" in YZ are incredibly compelling, but I'm not so convinced it could be handled JUST RIGHT for tv show purposes... Here's to hoping.

09/17/08 7:59 PM

I just don't want to have to turn a TV on ever again.
It's been years aside from a south park every so often.

Now I'm gonna have to, at least while this show is running. Spose i could wait for
DVD's

09/19/08 1:48 AM

someone posted this earlier, kinda glad someone else thought of it. but i'd dig it if the episodes were broken down and focused on each track from the album (assuming the show is a direct translation upon the album and not a continuation since nothing has been said whether or not it'll be a story extension or the visualization of the album.) but this would be my version for a few episodes.

HYPERPOWER!
Essentially would be an introductory episode for the world of Year Zero, showing everything that's brought us up to this point (the dirty bombs in LA, Parepin, probably up until 2015/-07) and introducing the main characters -- the good soldier who enlists himself and is sent to the 105th Airborne Crusaders, the President (name suggestion: Stephan Malm, actually a pseudonym based on two people who screwed Reznor in his career. Also at this point the President would actually be a senator or have another governmental position since the President during this time is female, essentially this would be the one about to become President in the following episode, this would focus on his hunger for power and control), John Q who is under the belief of everything being told (also working for Cedocore, manufacturer or Parepin so believing everything is for a greater good) and Jack Q slowly being awakened and pulled into the Resistance (headed up, or at least a key member, by Saul Williams), a leader/key member of the Resistance and many other to help the dynamic. The end of the episode would be The Chelsea Incident. The first several minutes of this episode would play out like a news broadcast with some distortion and then it would parlay into the story by all the characters viewing the same program.

The Beginning of The End
Picking up where the first would leave off, the death of Argentinian citizens by former convicts in England force chips to be planted within convicts and select groups the vast populous with "the President's approval." Upon discovering this the Madam President confronts her cabinet and is convicted of treason. President Malm takes office through a judicial committee. Saul Williams realizes this can only lead for trouble and contacts many of his people in the communities for recruitment, one target being Jack Q. The Good Soldier is deployed to Seattle to assist in the biological attacks that have occured not in deploying the weapons but cleaning up the mess.) Through contacts in Belize prior to Hurricane Imagard, Saul sends them digital copies of citizenship bonds for Americans to use to escape. Diplomat Mather is murdered by the Redhorse virus and the spiral of totalitarianism continues. The episode ends with the USA & Coalition of Peace creating the new calender, thus entering "Year Zero."

Survivalism
Saul commands his men to abduct many of the targets (after they've been told not to drink any water 12 hours prior) to attend a Resistance rally in secret in the area of Trinity Episcopalian, one of the targets is Margaret Pontiroli cousin of a government agent who sent undercover to monitor the Resistance. Saul stands before them speaking the "Wake up and give a shit" monologue from the AIR meeting in LA. They are all led to the lower level of the building and Nine Inch Nails plays a small set for the group, the track we hear and see is "Survivalism." The police raid the building to seize and capture Saul, the band, and as many of the targets as they can. Jack Q and Margaret escapes with Saul and Trent who go to a safe house to remove the chip embedded in Jack's arm. Meanwhile in England two policemen respond to a domestic disturbance in an area of Brixton the night before a sweep for chip pullers and drug dealers is commenced. One resident and an officer are killed in the process, one resident and one officer wounded. Not long after a riot ensues in England for two days. In the midst we run into a new character, the writer of GraceTheTeacher.net. Going back over to the states Jack and Margaret are being stitched up after having his chip removed. Saul and Trent then state the nature of who they are and what they do, and offer Jack to help them or go back to being a gear in the machine. He agrees then is introduced to something of theirs in the making, AnotherVersionOfTheTruth.com. The episode ends with a news broadcast of Cedocore getting FDA approval for Cetacox2.

The Good Soldier
It picks up right where the last one leaves off with the word from Cedocore. The television is being turned off by TGS who is sitting at his computer creating BeTheHammer.net. At which point as he writes we go back in time to when he is first in Syria and he's cowering in fear as gunfire ensues and bombs drop, cut to later when he's busting down the door for the Resistance meeting with a stone cold look on his face. He goes through interrogating people, killing suspects, everything that forms him into the now chipless individual we see before us (in the states, among the inmates soldiers, police, government officials, Cedocore employees and anyone of importance is implanted.) At the end of his piece we see him writing out of focus from behind a sniper rifle and a small assortment of weapons and explosives. Meanwhile Jack is further introduced to AVT.com and the a series of plots to awaken the public by several means -- graffiti promoting the Resistance and their cause, both violent and nonviolent attacks on key people and organizations (Cedocore, Church of Plano, and of course the government.) As this goes on John Q at Cedocore begins to seek approval for Prozira and the acquisition of genetic technology. In his office while throwing an autographed baseball up in the air staving off boredom he receives a call from the President asking to meet.

Vessel
Sgt. Jeff Slanski is going along the street in uniform on patrol. Sudden the radios bursts with the dispatchers alerting officers to go to the Star Chamber to assist in crowd control. He fires up the roof and drives three blocks to the Star Chamber (formerly the building of the Star newspaper) with people inside screaming, people outside trying to find out what's going on and men in plastic suits entering the building and cordoning off the area. We skip ahead to Slanski recalling the events of that day and two days prior to Federal agent Claire Sikes. He tells her of a woman who came out of the building crying orange only before getting dragged away by the men in plastic suits. We move over to members of the 105th Airborne who receive their new pills to counteract Parepin and Opal. We hear this from the perspective of TGS

Me, I'm Not
Margaret becomes very close to key members in the Resistance but walks a thin line between who she is and who she makes herself out to be. Her faith is then tested when they capture two police officers involved in the raid of the Quaker Outreach Center to see what they know. When neither officer chooses to speak Jack and Margaret are given the order to kill them. Jack has a bit of hesitation but eventually pulls through. Margaret takes the longest time believing in non-violent action against the system. Saul convinces her that long ago might have worked but in a time when they aren't willing to even step on you let alone listen extreme actions must be taken. Eventually she kills the police officer.

Capital G

My Violent Heart
It details about a stand-off between members of the Resistance armed to the teeth with G36 rifles and the police. The police try valiantly to infiltrate the building they are in with both stealth and excessive force and neither are successful. Over a loud speaker Saul is telling them how they cannot be stopped in their quest for awakening the people.

The Warning
Centers around the mystery that is The Presence after it is seen by the 105th Airborne (yes another jump back in time.) It is questioned by all sides -- Evangelicals, Resistance members, Cedocore scientists, Government officials and the public. Every possible scenario is pitched to determine the nature of the Presence. The Hand of God, aliens, a hallucinogenic after affect of Parepin, and a myriad of other theories.

God Given & Meet Your Master
Margaret is exposed as an insider and she is subsequently tortured along with the agents who put her in place.

The Greater Good & The Great Destroyer
We start out by watching mildly distorted camcorder footage featuring The Angry Sniper/TGS in an apartment overlooking Wrigley Field while wearing a mask to conceal his identity. Around the room as he spouts off his speech he has a television playing the broadcast of the baseball game (which frequently he points the camera to) and various items around to make bombs. Bombs go off, chaos ensues. He places the camera so that the television and the Sniper are both in frame. He fires off a round into Wrigley Field and we see on the television John Q of Cedocore stricken in the neck. John of Boston in interrogation at the Judson Orgam Correctional Facility.

Another Version Of The Truth
Going back to the creator of GraceTheTeacher, this mainly centers around the family in England (more so the writer of the blog) becoming more aware of the travesties and being outraged by it.

In This Twilight & Zero Sum
A soldier confesses his fears to a priest via email, The Solutions Backwards Initiative runs a test which sends a large amount of digital information back in time to warn us in the hopes that our future can be saved, the Resistance prepares for a march and attack on Washington D.C. with central targets being the Capitol Building, the White House and the Pentagon. They move into the city at sunset as they are submerged into twilight after coming out of a large firefight. Upon their arrival of the Capitol Building the Presence touches down upon them.

will finish later. clearly I'm detailed with this, but hey i'm sure trent occasionally scopes on these every once in awhile. also given the timeline i can see how it'd actually be tough for one episode per song.
