I love your work, studio quality work, actually better than most bands attempts at 5.1 - can't wait till fragile 5.1, whenever the multitrack comes available.

First off, I apologize for not being around as much for the month of September. I'll answer any questions now.

Besides the fact that my dvd player skips the first 2 seconds of each song, it's really great.

The images are not centered, and the font used on them is just awfull, but the sound is good so.
I tested the DVD's on a 42' WS plasma and everything looked fantastic, except, if you've got a standard resolution TV, the sides get cut off. That's something that I tried to address in TS and GI-IV.

can you at all listen to the 5.1 mixes on normal stereo? probably not as much fun but i'd like to know if there's a difference in the two speakers than the plain mix. i have a surround system but my dvd player isn't hooked up to it, and that would be a week long adventure hooking it up. also yeah there's the fan case covers which are bad-ass but what about disc cover? and how difficult is it to mix a 5.1 track?
I wouldn't recommend listening the 5.1 mix in Stereo because .. well, that's why you bought the original version of Year Zero. smiling smiley
As far as how hard is it to mix into 5.1: It depends on what you've been given to work with... and how much detail you want to go into your work. I think it's fun, but difficult to work out all the bugs especially since i don't have any professional equipment or a acoustically treated room to mix in.

Thanks for everyone's input! I really do appreciate it and all the feedback is great. There are a couple more individual songs that will be released soon, by the way.

I want you to feel immersed in the music, in the same way that TDS DE and WT 5.1 make you feel.

Since when was there a 5.1 version of With Teeth?

I love that album, and I would love to hear it in 5.1.

Cool thanks. I'm mostly just interested in the audio, but the DVD might be a cool item for the archives.

I ripped the audio to 24-bit 48kHz 6-channel FLAC, is there a demand for this? If so, I'll upload a torrent. All tagged nicely, etc. I'm doing the same for The Slip, maybe Ghosts. It seems less necessary for the latter.

10/05/08 1:34 AM

you ripped the audio of what? The 5.1 mixes that i did?
I could have done that and there's no need for 24-bit 48khz rips of my 5.1 mixes, since the original multitracks were 16-bit, 44kHz in the first place.
But thanks! (if that's what you were referring to.)

10/05/08 12:09 PM

Argh, all I have around here is 4.7gb dvds.

Whoops, DVD Audio Extractor read it as 48kHz, so I just went with that, and went with 24-bit as I wasn't sure and didn't want to chop anything off.

But yeah it's, from your DVDs and if I were to make a torrent, your text file would remain intact. But if you were to do it from the original sources, that would probably make even more sense. I just didn't want to ask and seem ungrateful as I have the tools to do the job for myself.

10/06/08 7:26 PM

^^oh, no. It's cool. It would just seem like extra work to you without any real benifits.

None of the dvd's that I've made are DL.

Blah, my rips are fucked up anyway. I'll have to re-do them.

Oh, you're right.
I got all confused because the ISO was a file my unzipping software recognized and offered to unpack. And I have file extensions hidden on this comp after an unfortunate incident when my 2yo renamed every file on my desktop to "m".
So I didn't see it was an ISO, it looked like a zip, and I unpacked it (thinking, why did this guy zip a zip file, doesn't he know that doesn't compress it any further?) and then was trying to figure out what to do with the unpacked files.

Thanks for letting me know. tongue sticking out smiley I am glad one of us knew what he was doing.

The only benefit is that I don't really play DVDs too often. But I do play my music through Winamp all the time.

I'll re-do it later when I have a minute. I'm not sure what happened, but it seems that not all channels ripped for some reason.

10/10/08 2:19 PM

Um, I haven't been using Winamp for a looong time; is it now able "to 5.1"?

10/10/08 1:54 PM

Yes. The Downward Spiral FLACs I downloaded from a torrent tracker a while back work great.

I listened to your mix. I suggest getting better equipment and/or calibrating your system accordingly first and then try again.
