Heh! I thought it was a great closing track, stopping the Slip from fizzling out. I loved the uncompromising bobardment it offered and yes, agreeing with the 'Pro-Demons,' it seemed to snarl an air of things to come.

Copy and pasted from other threads, cuz I'm lazy:

What the song is about to me: ""Demon Seed" is a very fun one to write about, but I don't know why. It shows how the hatred he has for life keeps growing and how he has been tolerating life and trying to behave himself. At the end, he finally knows what life is all about and he also knows what he is. He has this "seed" in him that makes him do things and he finally tells him to give up. The only reason he jumped off every rooftop and shot himself in the mouth and lived is this "seed". He is this "seeds" host and it lives off him, and since it lives off him, it sucks away his life, which is why he hates it so much, because he barely has any for himself. Unable to fight with the "seed", he goes back into the box he broke out of and stays there forever. He always wants to get out, but the "seed" makes him stay."

How it relates to the album cover to me: "I think the album art shows what "Demon Seed" tries to tell us. The man is trying to get away and make life better, but this "seed" is pulling him back from making any progress. Therefor, making him slip away."

What the art means to me: "Demon Seed: The art shows that (bit of explaining the song here too) the thing that keeps growing is the square. In the end, this man that "The Slip" may be about is fully protected by the red lines, but also from everything else."

I LOVE Demon Seed. It's an amazingly done song and the textures blow my mind. My favorite part has to be the breakdown (holy crap), followed by the part after that where he sings, "now I know what this is all about/now I know exactly what I am". I love that he counts down during both of those parts: "one, two, three, four, five, six". Just great. I hope the band somehow incorporates this song into a live show in the future. thumbs up

I actually love Demon Seed for ending the album because I'm so hyped by it! Whenever it's a slow song, I like it too, but its more like "ahh, that was nice... next album!" but with Demon Seed it's more like "lets play this album again!"

I was actually listening to The Slip on the way to my cross country meet... I was so pumped!

exactly what I think

You're not a good song to close the album!

10/22/08 4:49 PM

I think Demon Seed is the best song on the whole album. Lights In The Sky takes second place, in my opinion.

Degausser, I couldn't hear that part either. I wasn't sure if it was just me or my speakers or what.

My favorite song on the album and a great ending. It's like the second half of the album is just a buildup to this song.

I have always loved NIN for Trents' ability to convey such strong emotions, and state of mind in songs. Demon Seed is definitely one I identify with. The agitation; it makes me feel anxious. I feel like something big is coming.

I'm trying to tolerate you.

- But I'm reaching the point...

The song never seems to achieve the peak, I anticipate it will. When it ends, which is also the end of The Slip, I am left really hungry for more. It's an absolutely brilliant ending.

This is my favorite song from The Slip.
I love the new material.

Probably my favorite on the album. Rezner always seems to be able to close albums with such an emotional surge that is just amazing. Examples being Ring Finger, Hurt, Right Where it Belongs, etcetera.

Amazing.

This song kicks ass. the whole slip album has this great feel. the first 6 tracks are in your face some of the best nin songs ever exhilerating then lights in the sky and corona radiate make you go into this zoned emotional daze, the four of us are dying has the ghost instrumental feel to it and demon seed brings you back to faced paced illness. once the song is over, I ALWAYS want to listen to another nin cd or just play the album over. but it makes you want more. it makes you want more.

11/10/08 10:14 PM

Yeah, I'd have to say this is probably one of the strongest songs on the album. I think it's one of the best closers Trent has done for an album, especially with the entire build up of Corona Radiata and The Four of Us Are Dying. I am really impressed with The Slip as a whole.
If you are dwelling in the old Nine Inch Nails, it is a pretty weird switch, but I think it's a great evolution. To tell you the truth, initially, I grew tired with the formula of songs at the start of The Slip, but then after Lights in the Sky, it's like "WHOAH-HO, DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL". Demon Seed is THE ender for the album. There is no other alternative.

Yeah, instead of a feeling of "closure" it leaves you wanting to "GO Off". How do You follow that? Hit replay, or switch to Broken, Downward Spiral, With Teeth, etc...

I could barely hear the 1, 2, 3, 4 with headphones on, so it is extremely low in terms of volume.

11/21/08 12:43 PM

I can hear them clearly with headphones on.

Sorry, I am getting confused with another song (A Warm Place and "The Best Thing In Life Is Knowing You Put It Together"winking smiley

Totally agree with you on this Yoshata!!! I like to listen to it in the morning. Gets me pumped.

Oh, but demon seed is one of my favorites, however I could come to ask what the word everything means. Because.. there are a lot of things, and most of them he cant destroy. Even talking of angelic demonic things. I come not to say what place he has, should have or anything, but the word everything.. You know what, I hate to say angel and demon, as if I would know if they exist..

I agree with many here. Demon Seed is a wonderful ending to such a good album. It's easily one of my favorite songs off the album.

Dude, "Demon Seed" fucking rocks. Right from the get-go, this track is like a kick in the rocks - and it doesn't let you forget how much it hurt. The first time I listened to The Slip, I was already enthralled by the previous tracks, so when "Demon Seed" came on, I immediately cranked the volume up to max. The alternatively-timed song structuring, sick synth textures and blaring guitar rhythms hooked me almost instantaneously.

I've read a few music reviews for The Slip and although some critics claimed they didn't enjoy the entire album, they couldn't deny the fact that "Demon Seed" had made them shake their asses and bang their heads.

Nor will I.

i though demon seed was a great song to end the album on. The whole album deals with themes of one's own loss of identity, doubt, and surrendering. I think "the slip" could refer to the collapse of a persons consciousness into a much more destructive atmosphere. But demon seed for me can be interpreted as a person making the choice to rise from chaos and make a difference, hence the lyrics "im a human voice, i can use my fist, to destroy everything i can."

love the guitar rift on this one as well!!! terrific album.

what demon seed means to me.

musically, the drums are badass. i feel the lyrics are some point of identity to what makes the process of acting out or feeling evil to justify the point of a cause.

some sort of destruction thing. can't make sense of what doesn't. but still, one of my fav track off the slip as trent strays from the meditations at the end. or beginning. who knows.

12/03/08 12:41 AM

Love this song. One of the best on the album.

12/13/08 9:55 PM

When i hear this shit i fell a inexplicable strong hate.. still i like it a lot.

why is he whispering? i don't get it!

Favorite song from The Slipthumbs up

Did anyone else notice that the booklet for the CD has what seems to be a misprint?

6.
These is a seed
inside of me
that makes me

"These" is a seed, but he says "There". I find it interesting.

I personally love the song. The artwork is also the best in the booklet, I might add. I wouldn't've gotten a tattoo of it on my back if I didn't like it.
