Fantastic. No other words describe it. What we've accomplished here is simply incredible, and I'm honored (shocked) that I could be a part of it. (Mine's 22 Phantom II.) I think currently the one I've been listening to the most is 12 Phantom II, absolutely beautiful, Rezon8. It's an honor and a privilege to have my submission amidst such works of art.

04/30/09 6:54 PM

Is there a zip file or anything like that where you can download all 4 parts at once?

04/30/09 6:56 PM

HOLY SHIT!!!

35 Phantoms III
44 Phantoms III
49 Phantoms IV
54 Phantoms IV
64 Phantoms IV

ALL FIVE OF MY SUBMISSIONS MADE THE FINAL CUT!!! HAPPY ME!!!

I'm honored to be in a compilation with such talented artists, I'd like to thank all you guys for pitching in, whether you made it on here or not.

Speaking of .zip files, I can't access the download link for Volume II. Is that a problem for anyone else?

Wow... just wow. I am amazed by the content that has been compiled here. This sounds like a legitimate new series of "Ghosts" volumes.

I was amazed when I listened to "28 Phantom III" because I realized it was one of my submissions and I was honored to be included in this project. I personally think it doesn't lift a pinkie to any of the other songs... but at least the one I liked the most of the ones I made got put up.

Thanks guys. I know I didn't make this... but just thanks. This is just amazing.

i'm ready for artwork now.

and the new project Rezon8 and I have hinted at might just have some light shed on it.

soon...

My thoughts while listening to the rest of IV:

Very wandering and experimental choices fill 59-66, I appreciate these.

63 & 65 moments with the piano/guitar stand out against the rest of the whole phantom playlist so far. thanks Geist/mka12992. no overthinking, pieces very deliberately crafted in the moment, not through force. loved hearing the artist speak at the end of 63.

I like how SWS's great "deep" sound sits between these two and sort of amplifies the impact of all 3.

60 & 66 have very interesting sounds that pulled me right in from the beginning. johnny ripper/musicbrain.

Really superb song design heard in 67-somewhat82. really neat growth from the piano instrumentation, to the funky center, then leads you out in a totally different direction. just great production work. Very cool to hear this leading into my piece, 68

Here is my production note for 68---a piece I made after recording a single improvised sketch (the intro before the piano comes in) in one take. I then crafted the piece in a single session of improvisation and sequencing of the piano voice. During the part between the intro and reprise you're actually hearing two separate improvision takes which were recorded before any piano part was designed)

69, a weird and delightful piece by mgexiled transitions us to the very enjoyable atmospheric sounds of 70 by Broken_Drum, and these carry us to my next piece.

71 was created in the same fashion as 68, and actually came first of the two. The intro is one improvised sketch. Then the center is two layers, one main take and then a second go where I recorded harmony notes. It is the same synth setup as in the other piece.

72. Ethereal voices that swim about my ears close out the volume in true phantom motif. seasons in the sky. I really enjoyed the sound of the notes floating away as it comes to a stop.

Judging by the sheer volume of the 3 and 4 portions, I believe Rezon8 may have had the plan from the beginning to be selective, then changed that stance after the project received the massive amount of submissions that he perhaps was not expecting in such quantities. I don't know- all 5 of the pieces I chose to present are in the final playlists.

Now having listened to this work in its entirety I wanted to express my thanks to every contributor for making this a truly awesome project in which to take part. The way all the work is presented together is truly stellar, rezon8 did a very great thing in his choice of ordering and grouping of the work. The sum is much greater than its parts. Even if I have not had a specific comment for your piece know that I appreciate you. I am going to be doing a response piece which includes a more cohesive commentary alongside a playlist of my favorites in the project, and it will also include new compositions and photos of mine

Wow. I wish I had known about this sooner. I would have loved to participate.

Anyway, this was really good. It's not Ghosts, but it comes damn close. Great job to everyone involved.

very happy with final product smiling smiley

another tease over new project news...

soon...

05/01/09 9:24 AM

yeah im really happy with the final product.
i got in on 3 (27, 43 and 62), the latter two of which were collabs with "supertaylrock1", or JTR.
well i didnt really make anything in 62, but i was hanging w/ him when he made it, i suggested he submit it to this.

im now working on my own "album" of more instrumentals, with new stuff, some re-workings of the phantoms i made that didn't make the cut, and maybe a cover or two, i was thinking Schism by Tool (my second favorite band/artist) with the same guitar track, then some different stuff, like an instrumental remix-cover deal.
idk but im working on it..

Care to take a stab at what was used for 67 Phantoms IV? I will tell you that the Piano is Pianoteq... but I am very curious about what one might think the drums and synth are...

Drums sound like Reason drums.. either that or something free cause it's too consistent sounding and not dynamic enough to sound real/paid for but I could be completely wrong.

I'm gonna go with... reFX Nexus for the synth? Or it's very similar.

I'm probably completely wrong on everything. I need more experience on VSTs. If anyone could suggest some that would be sweet smiling smiley

Good guess work! As for the drums, it's actually FI Sounds Premium Kit... thumbs up I could have done a bit more velocity layering scaling but I wanted the whole production to be very immediate, spontaneous.

The synth = FAW Circle.

Cool smiling smiley I need some more modular synth stuff like that smiling smiley

FAW Circle was a big favorite of mine when I was working in a PC environment. Don't know if they came out with UB version yet but I'll look into that with the quickness ; )

Try your chance with mine, 25 Phantom III :p

I haven't listened to everything yet, I guess I'll download them all and listen to it part by part.

05/02/09 7:51 AM

God this is really bugging me..
I completely loved Volumes I and II. And I just listened to IV, and I have the same reaction as number III. I don't like it as much. And I think it might be because there are actually to many songs included. I don't know I just listen and I don't think these volumes are as amazing. Meh.

I think I need to spend a lot of time locked in my basement just listening to the second two volumes. I will either go crazy or finally learn to like at least 75% of the tracks. Hopefully its the latter.

05/02/09 9:09 AM

can you (adamzwakk) tell me what you think rezon8 used for the synth at about 0:26 on 1?
im dying to know what that is

05/02/09 2:27 PM

I haven't checked this thread in a long time. i wanted to contribute but can't cuz im too busy. anyway hows this project coming along?

Listening to 59 Phantom IV while eating extremly hot chicken wings. Somehow it's just not working sad smiley

Edit: Followed by 60 Phantom IV, I love this one! Nice one Johnny_Ripper!

Drums are DEFINITLY EZDrummer/Superior Drummer.

I can make a similar sounding synth using Slayer2, digitizing it and transposing it to make the higher pitched sounds.

OR just digitizing a distorted saw sound tongue sticking out smiley either way, those are two ways I would make that effect.

Sounds very Reason-ish. The drums sorta give it away. That's all I can say tongue sticking out smiley I'm gonna reinstall Reason tonight and test out some ideas I got from Phantom.

Yup you got it. I'm clearly addicted to Reason. Once I've said I'll move to Cubase but getting good VST seems "boring".

There are no links to part III and IV on the pages and the link to II is broken, I can’t find it even here. Could anybody give me a link (or clue), please? confused smiley Beside of that, this is great project, it’s a pity I noticed too late.
