Don't know about $1200, but considering you can get it for
28 pounds on ebay (even though it's not working properly), or an auction ending at
33 €, and considering that it doesn't have any kind of coverage on the internet (most high quality vintage turntables have their followers), I dare say this was a failed experiment of Sharp's.
I'll stick to horizontal turntables any day.
And also: turtables with a lot of automatics mean low quality sound reproduction. Turntables with automatic needle lowering (and raising) mechanisms, or automatic on/off, or electronic speed change, also suffer from a higher noise than manual turntables (where you have to be more careful, but the results are far more awarding). That's why I'm sticking with my Project.
