Does anyone have any suggestions on protective sleeves to put vinyls in? I'm looking for something that can fit the entire thing, packaging and all, not just the record itself. any suggestions?
I buy them locally at a used records shop. But many online stores have them... [www.bagsunlimited.com] - they have some really high quality stuff too, the mylar sleeves, but those are expensive.

I tend to use thinner ones, because they take less space.

You can't go wrong w/ bagsunlimited.com...best selection.

I stopped at a music store in town and found good ones for 4 for a dollar, glad I didn't spend twice that on the net

I do really love vinyls, I bought Rammstein's Mutter album on vinyl to later find out I got ripped off on a fake but it is still really nice. I would really love to have The Fragile on vinyl but it's just too expensive and really not worth it. Trent Reznor doesn't care if you download his music so why give $300.00 to someone in Texas for a record when you can download it or buy it on CD here?

10/04/08 2:23 PM

Vinyl is not a word that is pluralized!!!!!! It's never "vinyls"!!!!!

Good theory!

if you're patient you can find The Fragile on ebay for a lot less than $300. you just have to wait for the right auction that doesn't have a bidding war going on.

pick one: fragile vinyl

what album would you most like to own on vinyl

10/08/08 11:18 PM

When I started, my one album that I had to have was definitely the Fragile. Well, a year and a bit later, I have 3 smiling smiley

are these two things complete bullshit?

Starfuckers, Inc. 12"

Into The Void 12"

10/10/08 12:46 PM

Starfuckers inc is real, it's a well known promo vinyl.

As for Into The Void: I'm bidding on that (so I ask anyone to leave it alone, if nothing else for the kindness of your hearts), but I did ask the seller about the details: the catalogue code is from the CD release, while the picture is of a Things Falling Apart vinyl, so who knows what the seller actually has. In any case, no collector so far has ever heard of the Into The Void vinyl, so it's a bit doubtful it's real. But I'll see what that's all about, when (if) I get a response.

Thanks for the info about Starfuckers, I'll be grabbing that. As for Into The Void I thought it looked a little shady.

Edit: Scratch that, bidding is all you thumbs up

It's fake. No official vinyls from NIN ever came in 'colour' varieties.

Quick question for you gusy: What's the better way to store vinyls, stacked one on top of the other or like books on a bookshelf?

I have a nightstand that has a place in the bottom of it for vinyls.

Any other suggestions?

10/29/08 10:57 AM

Stacked? As in, a flat stack of records? With one on the bottom and a whole bunch on top?

Oh the pain, just from thinking about it. Please don't do that to the poor things.

10/29/08 12:47 PM

That's why I asked. I had them set up like books on a bookshelf but then I thought that would hurt the edges so I switched them to stacked, then a few days ago I switched them back.

10/29/08 12:58 PM

Don't EVER stack the vinyls. They ALWAYS have to be stored in the UPRIGHT position.

If you stack them, the weight of the stack might crush the vinyls on the bottom.

The proper way to store them is upright, in poly sleeves (or if you're anal about it, expensive mylar sleeves), in a closed cupboard to keep the dust out. Also, it's a smart thing to have stable vertical separators every 15-20 cm apart, so you separate vinyls a bit, give them more support.

10/29/08 1:20 PM

Ok thanks for the info. I don't have any cupboard to store them in so upright in what I have will have to do.

did some light vinyl shopping, and cleaned out NIN section picked up these vinyls

last Christmas my wife ordered a copy of year zero remixed from the u.s, two were sent by mistake. Both are sealed but came with posters saying "nine inch nails: year zero" and the posters are numbered 03793 and 03794 respectively. Do the posters belong to the vinyl? or are they just random posters? Help!!

I bought The Downward Spiral re-release on black vinyl yesterday & it is so nice. Back to Black, heavy 180 gram vinyl. It is a very beautiful album, physically.
