The Crow

Something about this time of year (the imminence of Autumn) always makes me want to watch The Crow. Something about things dying I guess, that smell in the air, Halloween, etc.

It has probably been one of the more influential movies for me. The first one is my favorite (the second one is alright too), but I didn't care as much for the others.

Of course I like the Dead Souls remake for the soundtrack, but what really still gets me, even after all these years, is that Cure song when Eric adopts the makeup.

Anyway, any other Crow fans here? I'll bet some people here have sweet Halloween costumes inspired by Mr. Draven.

It's a great movie and i do watch it mostly around this time of the year, usually it's with my gf who is just head over heels for the guy.

I have not seen any of the sequels nor do i plan on seeing any of them, the first one left me rather content, the others all i can do is look at the user ratings on imdb and those are enough to tell me just how shitty the movies are as well as just word of mouth in general.

I did used to watch the tv series though along with the raven.

Wow, Okay, I watched this only a few days ago, just 'because I felt like I wanted to' no idea why though!
The Original>Every other film.
Seriously, they just got worse and worse.

I love this movie and it has been in my DVD collection a very long time now, up in the 'favourites' row with Pi.

Yes, I did dress up like Eric Draven for Halloween one time at work many years ago. It was great being able to wear clothes and makeup like that into a conservative office.

The visuals and soundtrack in the movie are very nice. It's been a couple years since I've watched it, so I think it's about time to dust it off again!

^I have that exact poster sitting in my office/PC room at home! Have had it for freakin years!! I still have the graphic novel done by James O'Barr that the movie was adopted from too. This movie was and always is huge for me. It helped usher me into Industrial music, which was a great thing in the mid to late '90's.

Anybody notice the Heath Ledger/Brandon Lee coincidental comparisons? I'll try to dig up the blog where somebody posted like 20 I think..

When I was in high school this movie came out, and I thought it was the best movie ever. It's aged well too, and although the nastalgia value is high for me, still a dang good movie. Plus, the soundtrack was *killer*. This one is near the top of my favorite movies of all time list.

Most definitely an amazing cult classic. It's got to be right up there with Army Of Darkness. No, you're all very right. The sequels, minus the television show (because I used to watch it), were incredible wastes of money, time, etc etc. Why they bothered to put any effort into them was a pathetic attempt at trying to revive the "franchise", if you can call it that. I mean, the man died. Leave it at that, and move on.

I can't even think of how many times i've seen this movie...every so often I have an urge to watch it again. One of my all-time favourites. I have a cool book I bought a long time ago about the filming of the movie, with amazing pictures and information inside.

Love that photo of Brandon Lee from the movie, I used to have a huge poster of that on my bedroom wall!

Brandon Lee would be great Joker smiling smiley I love this film. I'm not sure why, maybe because it really is great, maybe because the soundtrack fits great, maybe just because of nostalgia smiling smiley But the comic book is still the best!

Brandon forever!)))

Love the movie. It's one of my favorites and I totally get what you mean by wanting to watch it when fall starts to roll around. I also love listening to the soundtrack for it. I have the crow tattoo on my back and it took 8 hours, so yeah love the movie winking smiley

09/06/08 1:07 PM

Fuck! Now I have to wattch it.

09/06/08 1:50 PM

This movie is still GREAT. I remember being a big fan of "The Lost Boys" and hyping it up to my friend Amy, only to sit in horror at the cheesiness of it all when I finally sat down to watch it with her. This one I can watch over and over and it's still as awesome as the first time.

09/06/08 5:47 PM

The movie's so bittersweet because of Brandon's death. You watch that movie and (at least for me) see so much talent, you can't help but regret how underated he was. I lended my copy out to the other half since his brother's a huge fan and I'm itching to steal it back now.

09/06/08 7:29 PM

most definitely my favorite movie of all time! it was released while i was still in highschool and for some reason it spoke volumes to me!!! of course it didn't hurt that i was already a great fan of brandon and his beautiful face, i still miss him...but i miss many talented souls that have left this world far too soon. i watch this movie every year at least twice...it has a timeless place in my heart.
truly a masterpiecesmiling smiley

I agree with what apolutrosis about the correlation between this time of the year and watching The Crow. I usually like to watch it the night before Halloween (devil's night). I have all four and the first is the best and the fourth (being one of the worst movies i have ever seen) is very disappointing. But the connection is the thought the future that Brandon Lee (R.I.P) would have had if he had survived. And how the music in the movie makes the movie that much more intimate. If you like the movie you should also see one of the latest law and order episodes, the one with Michael Massee and David Patrick Kelly, the pseudo reunion blew me away great acting from both.

09/06/08 9:22 PM

I definitely agree that this time of year just goes along with The Crow. I prefer the graphic novel to the movie, but both are excellent

This is a favorite in my family. I was young when it came out, but then again, I was exposed to NIN, so I was pretty "prepared" heh.
...Definitely a film to watch with numerous candles aglow.

09/07/08 9:23 AM

great movie. I wish people wouldve like the second more. I thought the second one was fantastic, they made him more charismatic than Eric.

09/09/08 4:41 PM

The Crow is my favorite movie of all time. I watch it at least once a week. I am getting Real Love is Forever tattooed on my back.

I love The Crow so much!

The soundtrack is amazing. When I hear the song "Can't Rain All The Time" it always makes me cry...sad smiley

yep. definitely on top in my fav of all time list. and still stands the test of time. the other 2 were shit, i'm sorry. nobody can replace Lee. he played the role as good as Ledger did "The Joker".

and i have to mention this too, because i think it gets widely overlooked, but the Head Villain (and half sister as well), one of the best villains i've ever seen. and such a great soundtrack, too.

yes, and there's something about fall/halloween that makes me want to see this.

I agree, there's no replacing Brandon Lee. He was stellar in that movie.

Great villain too, he was awesome.

I feel that way about this season too...when the weather gets colder, and Halloween is coming up, it's the perfect time for The Crow.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, probably in the top 5. I don't even know how many times I've seen it. The second one was decent but the third one was awful and I never saw the other ones and don't plan on it.

Yes that part is awesome. I haven't watched this in a long time, I think I'll watch it tonight after work

09/15/08 7:19 AM

Meh.

09/15/08 8:50 AM

I am a big fan of The Crow. It's my favourite movie of ever. I love J.O. Barr and his comic. And, last but not least, I love the soundtrack of the movie.
You're right Apolutrosis: though Dead Souls remake is great, The Cure's song Burn is absolutely amazing, especially during the make-up scene.

09/15/08 11:38 AM

I loved the crow when I was younger. It was taboo in the way that listening to Marilyn Manson was. I guess because of nudity.. Parents don't like breasts.

I'm really hoping to see this movie sometime soon. It's almost as much an autumn movie as Halloween is. Now there's a movie.

09/15/08 1:26 PM

This movie is extremely overrated.

Though, I have to admit that I can't even sit through a viewing of it.

09/15/08 1:44 PM

For me the movie lacks substance (plot, actors, ideas, drama etc), but at least the dark/gothic imagery isn't ridiculous. Oh, and the music is good.

09/15/08 3:28 PM

Yes, is a great film!! In Festival Fantastic Cinema in Sitges (Spain 1996) showing The Crow II with Vincent Perez, I know it is a very bad film, but 3 friend and me characterized as The crow, Vincenp Perez saw and came to make him aphoto with us!!!
By the way, curioly yesterday I was watching the Cure“s video!!!!
