By EU standards it isn't bad, but I know that some people in the US are gonna get all bunched over it.

wow, rooney mmmm

i've wanted to see more skin from her since the first time i saw her in black panties while playing a little role in Youth and Revolt.

i think i let out a little gasp in the theater.

i said to my brother then that she would blow up as a star and it seems she's on her way.

Fincher- on why he cast Rooney Mara

DF-(about TSN) "Rooney Mara’s role in the film is pivotal, although brief."

What experience on this film led to you bringing her back in for “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”?

DF-"The moment where I felt like I saw a flash of Lisbeth was her final encounter with Mark when she destroys him quietly."

Did you have her in mind immediately, or was it a gradual realization?

DF-“We read her and, not surprisingly, loved all of the things about her that we’d initially loved for Erica. She’s smart and capable and works really hard. She is ridiculously photogenic in a very interesting way — she can be plain, or she can be exquisite in a matter of moments — and she’s a great listener. Lisbeth is a very tough role to cast — the audience needs to project into a mystery, so we needed a mystery for them to fill.”

New Trailer.

Since the Nine Inch Nails discussion thread is about the score, I'll post this in the thread for the movie itself as this trailer is more focused on the content of the movie; not just the music.

The movie looks kinda interesting. Makes me want to go see it by myself without telling my mom a damn thing about it.

Just watched the original today. Excellent! Lisbeth is so badass.

Cool. I see TGWTDT as being more of a complete film, with a clear beginning, middle and end, and TGWPWF and TGWKTHN being part one and two of one saga. I also see the third film as being sort of the chaser after two shots. The pacing is slower, but it's very rich and atmospheric.

Great Vogue magazine article about Rooney Mara and how she got into the role of Lisbeth (WARNING: Contains spoilers if you haven't read the book and/or seen the Swedish film):

Scarlett Johansson Was Too Sexy For The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

As the clock ticks down to its highly anticipated premiere, "The Girl WIth The Dragon Tattoo" will not only take theaters by storm, it will sweep up and entirely change the life of its star, Rooney Mara.

She's been acting for a few years now, with roles in "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and a starring gig in "Tanner Hall," but it was her opening scene role in "The Social Network," that put her on the map for director David Fincher. Conveniently, he's the helmer of "Dragon Tattoo," as well, and, as he tells Vogue in a long new profile, when Mara's name was mentioned as a possible fit for the part of cyberpunk Lisbeth Salander, he had a good feeling that it might be a fit.

Better, even, than some already established star actresses, as talented as they may be.

“Look, we saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I’m telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can’t wait for her to take her clothes off," he tells the magazine. “I keep trying to explain this. Salander should be like E.T. If you put E.T. dolls out before anyone had seen the movie, they would say, ‘What is this little squishy thing?’ Well, you know what? When he hides under the table and he grabs the Reese’s Pieces, you love him! It has to be like that.”

Mara makes no assertions about her squishiness, or her resemblance to ET (though he makeup for the role is radical and disorienting, and neither she nor the alien have eyebrows), but she does relate to Lisbeth in other ways.

“I am very slow to warm,” she says. “I’ve always been sort of a loner. I didn’t play team sports. I am better one-on-one than in big groups. I can understand wanting to be invisible and mistrusting people and wanting to understand everything before you engage with the world.”

Salander, for those that haven't read the Stieg Larsson books, is a hacker, a renegade harboring a distrust for the world that grows darker after being sexually assaulted and raped by her court-appointed guardian. Earlier in the year, Mara talked about the drain that filming that assault scene placed on her.

"It was incredibly intense. We did it all in a week -- the week of Valentine's Day, oddly enough," she remembered in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "We were working 16 hours a day, and it was really, really challenging, not just emotionally but physically. But it's such an important scene. We wanted to do everything we could to get that right."

It wasn't that Fincher was reluctant to give Rooney the role; the studio wanted the part to go to someone like Scarlett Johansson because she's an established actress and would all but guarantee box office profits. So Fincher had Rooney go through several auditions as a way to convince the studio that She was the better actress for the role. Rooney is aware that her career may either take off, or she may be forever typecast as awkward yet intelligent tough-girls. She also knows that she may be Lisbeth for two more films after this one.

... that could have been Scarlett Johansson on that poster?

Rooney seems to fit the role really well but I can't help but feel depressed for what might have been...
