So last night HBO's newest series Boardwalk Empire premiered.
It seems like it is going to be a very interesting show. Doesn't hurt that the executive producer of the show is Martin Scorsese .

So far what I've gathered is this is a show about Nucky Thompson, played by Steve Buscemi, and he is both a politician and a gangster of sorts. Prohibition just started and he is thinking up ways of getting alcohol back into Atlantic City, New Jersey so it stays the happening spot that it has been.

I am very intrigued for the next episode and I can't wait for it.

Although I thought there was an interesting side story to the pregnant woman, I didn't care for the awkward scenes between her and Buscemi.

Damn, I came into the movie room specifically to start this thread myself...

Anyway, I recorded the show last night but didn't get to watch it until about an hour ago, and it was great. I can't wait to see how everything progresses throughout the series

i really enjoyed the first episode; there's great potential for dozens of interesting characters/stories during the Prohibiton era- the lavish attention to detail paid to sets, music, and costumes only enhances this further.

steve buscemi makes for a very entertaining lead, and i look forward to see where he's going to take things.

trivia tidbit of minimal signifcance: i work on the boat used for smuggling in the opening scene; that's the schooner Pioneer from 1885, and she sails out of South St. Seaport from may through october.

(i know no one actually cares, but it was beyond cool for me to see.)

i'm going to wait til there's a good 4 or 5 shows to download and have me a boardwalk fest.

i need something to replace the void that entourage has left.

I just watched the Pilot and I gotta say that I enjoyed it very much. I think Steve Buscemi deserves his part and plays his character extremely well. It's really nice to see Michael Pitt apart of this and he never disappoints. I love how the show incorporates not just Atlantic City gangland, but bringing in Luciano and Capone was a nice mix.
This definitely feels like Scorsese, especially from his work of this millennium; Gangs of New York and Aviator come to mind. Scorsese never disappoints with his use of period music as a key to help drive the scenes along. It'll be interesting to see how this series pans out, especially with different directors up to bat; I mean, it's hard to keep up to a Scorsese piece, you know? But HBO always delivers in my opinion....

Anyone know if this is going to be a long ruining series or is it only one season long?

Just found out through HBO's facebook page that Boardwalk Empire is getting a second season.
Not gonna lie it is very odd to me that only one episode in and they already are asking for a second season. Could the reaction have been that awesome?

I know for each season of True Blood they waited until the third of fourth episode of the season to make that decision.

I agree it is strange. The show looks like it will be a really interesting show from what I saw in the pilot episode though. I'm looking forward to watching this show again on Sunday.

ha, thanks man! sadly, the production crew didn't leave any booze behind after loadout. at least none that i'm aware of; who knows what kind of deal the captain worked out with them...

Was the showgirl Jimmy's mom? Their interaction was strange.

That's what I was assuming.
Second episode was not as good as the first in my opinion. I like it, but for some reason I have a hard time remembering what is going on.

09/28/10 4:27 PM

I don't really care for Jimmy's story. The bit at the end was kinda..meh

09/28/10 4:24 PM

Damn, I just watched the pilot. Had me shouting "masterpiece" by the end. But I do that often, so take it how you will.

Also, pretty awesome theme song.

09/28/10 7:03 PM

^ Yeah I love the song they decided to use as the theme song. The Brian Jonestown Massacre are probably the only other band I obsess over other than NIN.

10/03/10 7:12 PM

Wasn't sure I would like the show but I watched it..now a few episodes in I find myself tuning in each week. Really well done in regards to keeping it authentic for the time period...still have a hard time watching chicks fucking Steve Buscemi ..I'm sure this show will clean up at the Emmy's lol

10/04/10 8:37 PM

This show has given me further evidence in a long held belief I've had...

Steve Buscemi is fucking awesome grinning smiley

yeah, Engine 55, i think? in Little Italy.

i've heard some older guys tell stories about how his captain thought he was nuts giving up the job; that'd he'd never make it as an actor. grinning smiley

12/05/11 3:54 PM

I think Jimmy is gonna catch his Mom molesting his son and kill a bitch.

12/05/11 4:01 PM

nah, i do think she's gonna try to make him king of atlantic city and she's gonna try to take the place of his wife/queen.

she's gonna keep trying to pull the strings from behind the curtain of his professional life...i don't know if he's gonna wind up going against her or becoming what she wants.

12/11/11 8:06 PM

Intresting ending.
