i've read all the comics, albeit in graphic novel form as opposed to single issues, and while i don't think the 2nd issue opened with a sex scene, i can't say for certain.

what i DO know for sure is Lori's (Rick's wife) relationship w/ Shane in the comic was of an order of scumbaggery WAY lower than it's presented in the show. the comic has her turning to him more out of emotional vulnerability for a single night of poor judgement, whereas in the show so far she seems to be pretty comfortable banging away with her (as far as she knows) dead husband's partner on a regular basis mere weeks after giving him up for lost.

it makes them out to be far less likeable characters than they were in the original, her in particular.

still, there's SO much good material in the comics that the longer the show runs, the better it will get.

11/14/10 6:32 PM

Ah alright, I really do want to read the comic.
Less than two hours til tonight's episode. ^.^ A few friends are watching with me.

11/15/10 5:40 AM

So I enjoyed "Tell It to the Frogs", it was an episode full of almost nothing. But it was really important nothing in my opinion. It was a good episode in character shaping and hopefully it will help lead to a really exciting 2nd half to the season.

That's weird knowing we are 3 episodes deep and we are already halfway done with this season. Good thing next season is 13 episodes!

This show is the fucking shit.

I was actually laughing out loud during episode 2 when they were hacking up the zombie to cover themselves in guts.

I really like Glen too, he's a champ. Rick kinda gets on my nerves to be honest. Don't know if it's the character or just the actor playing him, he just seems too...I dunno..."clean cut" for my liking.

I'm hoping he turns more bad ass and mentally drained as the show goes on, I reckon he'd be awesome to watch if he just flipped out entirely.

maybe he'll turn into a bad ass when he finds out his wife and his best friend have been going at it like horny teenagers, right after they thought he died! he's bound to flip out then, haha.

i'm really liking this show. and at the end of this episode, all i could say was
"OOOOOOOOH SNAP!" eye popping smiley

We may be in for a long wait for the show's second season. The show comes back in 2011 with a longer 13 episode season, but that reportedly won't occur until October, so that AMC can develop another Halloween-themed month to ramp up excitement for the show's return. It's also a recognition that AMC already has two summer shows, Mad Men and Breaking Bad, and their relatively small operation means that's really the limit for how many original shows they can support at once.

Frank Darabont is also reportedly going to write and direct another episode next season.

the final sentence written on the back of every one of the graphic novels is this: "In a world ruled by the dead, we are finally forced to start living."

one of the main ideas of the comic, and by extension the show, is examining a person's true nature, when all the normal rules everybody was used to living by no longer mean anything; how far will you go for survival?

just let me say who the character Rick is at the start of the comic, is a FAR CRY from who he is twelve volumes deep. anyone who likes the show and hasn't read the comics, i wholeheartedly recommend you do so; Robert Kirkman likes to put his characters through some SHIT.

From io9.com:
Executive producer and comics creator Robert Kirkman commented on the somewhat bizarre reports about the entire writing staff being fired. He said the story was basically false, it reflected unfairly on showrunner Frank Darabont, and that the only departure was that of Charles 'Chic' Eglee. Kirkman explained why this happened:
"Chic Eglee is a high-level television writer. He was brought onto The Walking Dead with the idea that Frank was going to work on the first season and then go off and do movies. Chic didn't want to be second-in-command on a show when he's used to being a top dog, and so he decided to go off and do something else, which is something that happens and is not a big deal."

Kirkman did leave open the distinct possibility that this story might eventually be true, and that Darabont is seriously considering the freelance model:
It's a little premature to be nailing down. I don't know if it's going to be a freelance situation or if we're going to have writers in a writers' room. That's something that's being worked on now. Everybody knows what they're doing. AMC has done a few television shows before, and Frank Darabont is a professional. Whatever is decided, I don't think it will affect the show one way or another."

ah, cool. so all the writers have not been fired, at least not yet. thanks for clearing that up. it'll be interesting to see if freelancing will have any effect on the show, if that's what they end up doing.

looking forward to the season finale tonight. i wonder what cliffhanger they'll leave us with to keep us hanging on til next season smiling smiley

The quality of this show sort of went off a cliff. I was really optimistic after the debut. Now the show is just a hybrid of zombie cliches with soap opera plots.

well, if you look at this excerpt from an interview series creator Robert Kirkman gave at IGN, that's actually been part of the plan all along:

posted:
IGN Comics: So the characters and their emphasis and focus was the key element you wanted preserved in whatever form Walking Dead took?

Kirkman: Exactly. It's an emotional character drama at its core. It's a girly soap opera… with zombies. It's not an action movie. It's supposed to be a more subtle, slower… y'know?

Dawn of the Dead it ain't.

12/14/10 5:06 PM

wow!I mean honestly what a great show. When first heard about it I was like for real,a living dead series? How is that gonna develop? But the series has been fantastic! Can't wait til next season!

01/03/11 1:06 PM

The last two episodes have destroyed the positive impression of what built the first four episodes, but I'll wait for the second season.

Agreed. It needs more zombie madness. Much of the soapy stuff is too long and drawn out.

did you not see the post three above yours where i quote series creator Robert Kirkman as saying:

if you're expecting the ratio of "zombie madness" to "soapy stuff" to greatly favor the madness, you're likely to continue to be disappointed.

it's not an action movie. i personally find it refreshing, that a form of narrative entertainment exists dealing with zombies that doesn't focus all it's time on headshots and hiding behind barricades.

^ sorry, I've skipped thorugh posts and I didn't catch yours.

So- a "girly soap opera?"- is the way the comic's writer even describes it? Really? Drama is fine by me, but the series seems to draw it on and on. I feel like I'm sighing every five minutes as more tragedy strikes and monologues ensue.

It's already the zombie apocalypse- must they all be at each others throats?

Now don't get me wrong, I like the series, and by "needs more zombie madness" what I really would like to see is them doing more interesting and completely out there things with the zombies (I luved how they masked their scent in episode 2). I'm honestly sick of how all zombie movies seem to end up as Kirkman describes in the interview....except for Shawn of the Dead...that was an AWESOME exception!

On a side note- I wonder how many more cast members from the movie The Mist will show up? Three of the camp members were in it. It would be awesome if Thomas Jane showed up. tongue sticking out smiley

01/05/11 10:51 PM

^ if the premise of the show interests you, but find the actual execution frustrating, i would genuinely recommend you give the graphic novels a try.

not only does the show diverge a good deal from the specifics of the comics, there's "madness" related events in the source material they wouldn't even THINK of attempting to adapt for televison.

the show may lend live action sound and motion to the series, but the comic brings a level of character detail and grim reality of a far higher regard.

07/16/11 7:38 PM

I can't wait for the next season. It kept me spellbound to the TV.

07/18/11 2:25 AM

first look at season two! smiling smiley

so anyone have any theories about what that scientist whispered in Rick's ear at the end of last season?

Frank Darabont Steps Down As Walking Dead Showrunner
"Frank Darabont, the creator, executive producer and director of AMC's smash hit The Walking Dead, is stepping down as showrunner of the series.

I hear that the behind-the-scenes turmoil has not affected production on the show, which continues as scheduled. Season 2 of Walking Dead is slated to premiere Oct. 16".

via Deadline

since then, executive producer Glen Mazzara has been announced as Darabont's replacement. i'm just wondering if or how this is going to change the production or storyline.

11/04/11 8:00 AM

Anybody watching this season? I like it. Not as good as the 1st season, but still good. I missed last wk.. need to catch up.

11/07/11 10:52 PM

i'm liking it more than the first season.

getting good.

11/09/11 6:50 AM

Same here, I actually reckon it's getting better!

The characterisation in this show is unmatched IMO. It's subtle, but that's part of its charm. It feels well-paced, not forced. Eg, compare say Daryl during Season 1 and now - he's still blunt, gruff and hardened, but there's a softer side to him starting to peek through. Conversely, Andrea is becoming more and more disillusioned with life and just plain bitter.

11/09/11 8:27 AM

Not sure I agree it's getting better. At least, not after last week's episode. The pacing has gotten incredibly uneven; I found it hard to believe that only two episodes remain of the first half of the season, and they STILL haven't found Sophia yet. That whole business w/ the fat zombie in the well, and using Glen as bait- was not only incredibly stupid but a complete waste of time. It felt like they forgot they needed a zombie moment and wrote that in at the last minute.

I fear these are the first signs of the AMC execs meddling with the show- cutting the budget, firing show creator/producer Frank Darabont- and the show suffering for it. As a longtime fan of the comic, it frustrates me to see so much potential existing material go squandered or unused in favor of some of the bizarre and downright stupid choices the show has made so far.

I really hope the second half of the season picks up steam.

11/09/11 3:47 PM

no shit.

i just looked up the darabont thing.

that was stupid stupid stupid for them to do.

apparently because frank wanted to keep the show big in effects and style
and AMC wanted to find ways to keep the budget down..by not showing zombies if they don't have to, etc..

this reminds me of them getting into it over Mad Men and their last season being stalled..they finally relented to pay the crew a fair amount for them to keep working.

they've got some great shows but their gonna fuck it up if they don't get some new management or who the fuck ever is running shit over there.

11/10/11 1:38 AM

I bet Merle Dixon took Sophia and it's going to cause a major shit rift between him and Daryl.

Merle may use her as collateral to get something from team Rick.

I dunno i could be way off and totally wrong, I haven't read the comics and even then there's the fact Daryl was made up for the show so you never know.

02/27/12 6:06 PM

So how does everyone feel about season two?
