First official look at Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises

http://www.tgdaily.com/sites/default/files/stock/article_images/scifi/20110805a_image.jpg

"A few websites which have also posted this photo are referring to it as an image of Catwoman, but it's clearly just Selina Kyle. She may be in all black rubber-leather stuff - and she surely looks smoking, but this costume is more likely being used in a pre-Catwoman scene.

Selina Kyle was a 'cat burgalar' long before she was Catwoman, and the film will likely depict at least one such heist before her transformation into the iconic personality

Empire Magazine-In the article, Nolan reveals that the story picks up eight years after The Dark Knight. "It's really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne's story. We left him in a very precarious place. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after 'The Dark Knight.' So he's an older Bruce Wayne; he's not in a great state. With Bane, we're looking to give Batman a challenge he hasn't had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we're testing Batman both physically as well as mentally."

Tom Hardy said that Bane is "brutal. He's a big dude who's incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and oriented fighting style. It's not about fighting. It's about carnage. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it's nasty. Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action."

Costume designer Lindy Hemming also talked about Bane's mask in the film. "He was injured early in his story. He's suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can't survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at his back, where there are two cannisters."

Whoa, that is kind of surprising. I've been avoiding any major news about the movie for awhile (til now, that is) and that is definitely not something I saw coming, that great of a gap between sequels.

What's really interesting about that is how the final chapter of this trilogy can potentially mirror the other seminal Frank Miller Batman story. Batman Begins drew from Year One. in setting the third movie eight years after the second, The Dark Knight Rises stands poised to draw from The Dark Knight Returns. Very curious now to see if it will do so. July can't come fast enough.

a few select 70mm IMAX theaters will be screening a six minute prologue to The Dark Knight Rises on Dec 16th, in front of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. get out to one if you can.

Official List of IMAX theaters participating.

if you are so inclined, a description of the prologue is already online.

I loved The Dark Knight, particularly for Heath Ledger's role as The Joker. I'm looking forward to see how The Dark Knight Rises will turn out and hopefully it will be as good as The Dark Knight but I don't think it will be any better, since Heath Ledger was incredible in the previous film and I don't think many film villains can top that performance.

Alert! Dr. Leonid Pavel is wanted by the CIA, he went missing after working at a Russian nuclear facility, but has re-appeared recently and is a "high priority."

Okay. My expectations have officially lowered, not that they were particularly high to begin with. I can't get much out of this trailer, but I guess this will have a slow build and will go for long periods of time without much happening in the first half.

To be honest, I didn't really care much for the other Nolan movies. Not saying they were particularly bad, but nowhere near as magnificent as people make them out to be. Christian Bale is a rather weak Batman and Heath Ledger was a highly overrated Joker IMO. Liam Neeson was an okay Ra's Al Ghul, though. Casting Anne Hathaway, a chick-flick star who co-murdered the last Oscar show (though Trent winning briefly redeemed it), as Catwoman just seems like a bad idea to me. Not really sure about Bane yet, as he only gets one line in this trailer.

I like this one better. AH bears a slight resemblance to Julie Newmar in it. Still don't think she can play the part. But then again, I might be biased because I'm a fan of the TV show with Adam West.

Sounds like you favor a very different style of Batman, closer to a Silver Age version.

I think the prologue in front of MI4 in IMAX will give a better indication of Bane, and the movie as a whole, than that trailer, which is still very teaser-ish in tone.

She was sexy, ridiculous origin story aside.

i'm liking the new trailer.

just for the record...i didn't really care for the dark knight.

sorry, not a superhero kind of fan.
my fav superhero movie is fantastic four though. it was just a really funny movie.

i think they're well made...not my cup of tea though.

i will say what i'm liking about the new trailer is it's looking like they're pulling some influence from the occupy wall street movement. something that makes it more relatable.

I'm curious about how they portray Bane.

if he juices up with venom and how he juices up.

or if they ditch all that.

(if you read batman you know what i'm talking about)

they changed it...he gets injections but they're numbing injections

I'm not sure about the 'constant pain' thing. I hadn't heard it, but I'm not contradicting it. Anyway, knowing Chris Nolan's style, I highly doubt he's sticking to the original origin story of Bane. I mean, he went with a less cartoonish origin story of Two-Face...

I'm personally glad they picked Bane for the villain in Dark knight rises, due to the fact that as a villain, he poses a challenge to Batman both on an intellectual level and a physical level. Never read the comics, but through some research I discovered that apparently Bane is meant to be ridiculously smart. Should be interesting to see Tom Hardy's portrayal.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not liking the look of this. I hope to be proven wrong, but this looks all wrong. She belongs in Steel Magnolias or The Help, not as Catwoman.

Sooo fuggly.

Might as well cast this chick.

Good god, guys. Just because she's not tramping around in an S&M outfit like Michelle Pfeiffer doesn't make her bad looking. And I'm willing to wait to see her in action before I dismiss this new look. I can remember how many people bitched about Heath Ledger as The Joker and how he looked before people changed their minds.

02/22/12 9:45 PM

i have to agree, she is a total miscast

02/23/12 1:01 AM

That scene in the trailer where she tells Bruce that a storm is coming is so perfectly sinister. If you think she looks horrible and is a miscast because she's not up to your standards of how sexy Catwoman should be...well, I don't know what to tell you.

02/23/12 2:03 AM

^In case you didn't see the link in my last post, here is what appears to be the actual Catwoman costume; found it on the Batman wiki.

It's more of an old school look, like Julie Newmar pictured below:

For the record, Returns is the only film in the Burton/Schumacher series I haven't watched all the way through yet.

No one is saying that she "looks horrible" or that she is "bad looking" for "not tramping around in an S&M outfit."

She just seems miscast, judging by her past work, and that picture of her on that bike looks goofy.

But yeah, I will wait to see the movie. Hope that she does a great job.

I'll clarify my position. She is "bad looking" for being bad looking. Of course this is all relative, but she needs to be compared to her peers. In this case that's Phifer, Newmar, and Berry. She's not even in their league.
