My daughter and I have been re-watching Star Trek:TNG. We're up to Season 3.

03/16/12 8:42 AM

Seasons 1 and 2 were pretty good, but 3 on up it got even better, same with Voy, ENT and DS9.

03/18/12 4:40 AM

Yes, once the cast got to know one another and interact with one another more, and I guess once the writers got to know the cast a bit and what each member was capable of, the episodes got better and better. smiling smiley

"Take us out of the system. But not too quickly; the Andorian mining consortium runs from no-one!" - Commander Shran

Hahahaha! Oh Shran, you cocky son of a bitch. I love it!

I do wonder what would have become of ST has the studio picked-up the first pilot, The Cage.

03/30/12 4:42 AM

^^The lady sitting at the controls is Majel Barret Roddenberry. And of course, that's Leonard Nimoy on the right.

Interesting thought, Rhett. It might not have been as popular, because I have a feeling that if the series had followed on from this pilot episode it might have been more "technical" and less about the people.

03/30/12 9:13 AM

It wasn't picked up because it was seen as too "cerebral" when there should have been more fist-fights, etc. Also, the first officer, "Number One" played by Barret was criticized (by women!) as being unfeminine. It wouldn't be until TNG some 20 years later when strong female leads would appear.

I really liked Pike. He was assertive and masculine, yet and the trials of commanding really ate at him. John Hoyt as Dr. Phillip Boyce was another excellent character; a sort of fatherly figure.

This could have been a great series, but alas, wasn't meant to be.

While "The Menagerie" is great, "The Cage" is still worth checking out.

04/02/12 5:31 AM

^^Indeed it is. smiling smiley

The character of Christopher Pike is in a few Star Trek the original series episodes. He had been involved in some very serious accident and was confined to a futuristic wheelchair kind of contraption.

My daughter and I are still wading through TNG, today we watched the episodes "The Offspring" (which is really sad) and "Sins Of The Father". My son, daughter and I are also working our way through the movies, yesterday my son and I watched Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, which is really really funny in parts.

"Do you guys like Italian?"

Spock: "no"
Kirk: "yes"
Spock: "no"
Kirk: "yes"
Spock: "no"
Kirk: "yes"
Spock: "no"

Kirk: "I love Italian, and so do you."

Spock: "yes"

04/04/12 5:48 AM

^^It's a very very funny movie. smiling smiley

I saw "Spock's Brain" yesterday and while I enjoyed it, it has to be among one of the worst episodes of the OS. It's was worthy of Ed Wood.

I adored her as Loxana Troi.

I follow Wil Wheaton and his wife Anne on Twitter. They're both delightfully goofy. Wil had Anne watch TNG for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I don't know which episode, but it must have been a very early one because he tweeted "Stiffly.Delivering.Lines" but she assured him that the rest of the cast was, too. LOL. They're also friends with Jeri Ryan (although maybe only on Twitter). She was incredibly hot as Seven of Nine, but she's just a nerd like the rest of us.

Lwaxanna (however it's spelled) is one of my very favourite characters as well.

My daughter and I have been working our way through TNG, yesterday we watched the Season 3 episodes "Sarek" and "Menage a Troi" (which is an absolute hoot!!!).

Rhett, the Original Series can be pretty bad but it's so much fun!!!! Our local JB HiFi has Seasons 1 and 2 available to buy, a mere $73 Australian each. Can't quite afford that yet... I always thought there were 3 seasons of OS?

I love that picture of Nichelle Nicholls and President Obama!!! I saw it on facebook yesterday. I had no idea she was so little!! smiling smiley

Just saw "All Good Things," the final episode of TNG for the first time since 1994, a great finale.

Joan-Are you still working on DS9? Did you see "Duet" yet? One of my favorites.

I just watched Sarek and started Menage a Troi. And I looked up the correct spelling: Lwaxana. I feel like a bad fan for not knowing it!

04/08/12 5:39 AM

^^It's a very difficult name to spell. smiling smiley I got it wrong too...

Today we watched Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

Rhett, haven't started watching DS9 yet. Got only the first season and have to save up for the rest, they cost $63 Australian each... I'm a poor person. sad smiley

Loved the original series. TNG and Voyager. From what I've been reading here it sounds likei should give DS9 a chance too. *searches Interwebs*

Count me in for this one.

That would have been interesting. But then he wouldn't have played Weyoun, one of my favorite charectors.

Tonight my daughter and I watched Night Terrors, one of my favourite TNG episodes. One of our local tv stations is playing the whole of TNG and Voyager. For some reason they're ignoring DS9, which I don't understand.

Was anyone else completely disgruntled by the way “The Next Generation” series ended with the motion picture “Nemesis?” I thought that movie was a complete turd. Paramount ended a masterpiece of a franchise by crashing it straight into the ground.

Saw it the other day for the first time since 2002. I thought that it was mediocre, the worst of TNG films, but I didn't despise it. Some individual scenes were cool, Stewart was good as always, and the story had an interesting premise; but the movie was just kind of stale. And the dialog seemed as though it could have been written for anyone and the actors seemed to phone-it-in.

More or less, yeah. I thought it was one of Tom Hardy's weaker roles. The ending was kind of bogus, too. Still, I wasn't a fan of Insurrection either, so I'd put them on the same level. In Insurrection it seemed like the actors were actively being held back, wanting to play their characters and being suppressed, and in Nemesis it was like they had resigned themselves to bad writing. I really had high hopes for the TNG movies, too.

04/18/12 5:24 AM

Hell i didn't even know that was Tom Hardy playing Shinzon in Nemesis until recently and by recently i mean within the past couple years well after i had seen the movie.

Of course i didn't really even know who "Tom Hardy" the actor was until i saw Bronson in about 2009ish and then further solidified with Inception, by then i was like WTF he was in Black Hawk Down and episodes of Band of Brothers which i had seen YEARS ago. It's crazy how you can pay absolutely no mind to someone, they'll walk completely past you and once you start seeing them around more and are hearing about them more often only then do they become familiar.

Then it unleashes a shit storm of HOLY FUCK THEY WERE IN THAT OF WHICH I SAW EONS AGO!

Despite the mediocrity of the last two TNG movies i do have to say i much prefer Nemesis to Insurrection.

04/18/12 5:45 AM

Today my daughter and I watched "Future Imperfect". Now that is an odd little TNG episode.

04/18/12 5:46 AM

I liked Insurrection. Not a great movie, but enjoyable. I'd say it was on the same level as ST: TMP and ST III. Of TNG films I'd say that the first two were by far the best.

I kind of wish that the Dominion War had been mentioned more in the last two TNG films. Also, Jadiza Dax's death should have been mentioned. I read that Worf's dealing with her death was intended to be in the script, but it was left out because not everyone followed DS9 and the producers didn't want to confuse audiences.

04/20/12 5:50 AM

Today my daughter and I watched TNG episode "The Wounded". It was kind of sad.
