It's about to be on...
I'm a basic fan. My other half is a fanatic.

What's your opinion?

Wrestlers?
Matches?
Ongoing rivalries?

[We all know what some will say. It's fake. None of that here, please. For those of you about to post something like that, just think about it this way: it's a physical Soap Opera. You can say what you want about 'em but they only have 1 take. If they bum it, not only do they blow the spot but they lose ratings for the show itself. Nowhere in the world is the art of physical acting better applied or expressed than in the square circle. One slip and you become the next Owen Hart. You could kill yourself or your opponent. Don't say it hasn't happened. One of the commentators - Jerry 'the King' Lawler did so in his earlier years. Not only that, but not all of those hits are fake. There's a term in the business called a 'potato.' That's when you intend to pull a punch but miscalculate & end up slugging the other person. This is more common than you might think. And, in order for a steel chair to make a noise like you hear at home, it has to connect to something. I tried to get into it (but was too out of shape). I've been hit by a chair. It didn't feel good but it wasn't near as hard as is necessary to be that loud. I won't deny that the scripting is somewhat sophomoric & melodramatic at times but, you cannot deny the physical prowess of most of those performers. After all, they're in the ring for 5+ minutes at the very least - sometimes up to 30.]
(I'm surprised nobody started one before now...)

For those who have trouble remembering what time which show airs, here you go.
RAW on Monday, 7E.
ECW on Tuesday, 7E.
SmackDown! on Friday, 6E.

I, for one, think they never should have switched Kennedy (Kennedy) to SmackDown. It hasn't been the same since we lost Kennedy, Flair and Triple-H. They may have been worn out but they're damn good.

(It's about to be on...!)
What do you guys think?

I'm watching it now....I want Stone Cold to be the special guest ref for Cyber Sunday. The best rivalry going on at Raw, in my opinion, is Jericho vs. Micheals. I agree about Kennedy and Triple H although I don't agree about Flair because it was his time to go anyway. I just wished Stone Cold would come back or the Rock for about a year then go back to making movies. I hardly watch ECW, I can't watch Smackdown b/c I don't have the network its on.

Anyway, yeah, I've been a fan for about 16 years now...Thanks Dadspinning smiley sticking its tongue out

10/13/08 7:36 PM

Oh, I think you're right about it being his time. But with losing him just before the draft, then losing H & Kennedy(Kennedy) and gaining Mysterio & Punk?
Meh.

Oh, and Adamle.
(Whoopie, you suck! You flub lines more than Dan Quayle. thumbs down)

Yeah, the Michaels/Jericho feud has to be one of the best going on so far.

Only thing about the Rock is that he'll never be able to wrestle again. He severed his Achilles Tendon. That all but puts him out coupled with the fact that he's so out of shape. And he thinks he's above coming back for anything but a speech. (He's outgrown the crowd that made him? I think not.)
But yeah, I'd LOVE Steve Austin to come back. I just wish his knees were in better shape. It'd be more concrete if that were the case but I'd settle for a year if that's all he's able to give us!

I'm kinda tired of the Jericho/Michaels feud. CM Punk is growing on me. I mainly watch RAW (but to be fair I've never really given Smackdown a fair shot... it has never been on at a convenient time for me)

I am also tired of a PPV per month, I think they should really go back to old format of a handful a year to make the main events more special. I think that's just me though.

Does anyone here read dirt sheets?

It also comes and goes for me, if there isn't a match worth watching I channel surf.

BATISTA BOMMMMMBBBB!!!!

10/14/08 3:36 PM

You forgot to mention that TNA airs on Spike TV Thursdays at 9PM.
(I know its not WWE, but if you watch that, then certainly its worth a peak at least.)

I havn't regularly watched WWE in years now, although i do record it to my DVR in case i get bored. Its impossible for me to watch it live, because i actually like to watch people wrestle - not Trips talk at the audience for 20 minutes.

CM Punk used to be amazing before WWE watered him down. I wish the WWE would get back to its roots, drop most of the insane storylines, and just give us some top notch wrestling. And i mean wrestling - i don't need to see 300 irish whips and back body drops per match, i want to see death valley drivers, bridging suplexes, piledrivers, powerbombs, and a few submission holds thrown in, please. I don't need constant moonsaulting and hardcore bloodfests like the indies give us, i just want to see more than 3 wrestling moves per match.

10/14/08 3:47 PM

This is about Jericho...What happened to Jericho? Jericho used to kick ass, he had the long hair, the goatee, rockstar-like ring attire, now it seems like he kinda......I don't know. The whole "Save-Us" campaign sucked and the fans were not digging it.

This is the Jericho that kicked ass, minus the goatee.

^oh! the memories! im not too keen on the mono-tone spiky hair jericho either. and he's my most favorite wwf wrestler too. im still rooting for him though cause i HATE shawn michaels. and batista is a waste of space. speaking of that, jericho's flunky on raw, (i forget his name, any help is appreciated) got released yesterday out of the blue.

i have a love/hate view on cm punk. i've followed his career for years (does anyone remember when TNA was a weekly 9.00 PPV???), and his wwf gimmick is odd. that fool doenst have any fucking martial arts background! and his gts finisher is stolen from an awesome japanese wrestler named KENTA. and i know moves get tossed around among many wrestlers, but it's always years after the fact and usually with permission, respectively. but maybe that's a forgotten old school thing now. so needless to say, if you followed cm punk and see him now, he kinda looks like a fraud. but he owns up to it pretty well i guess.

anyhow, i use gerweck.net to stay up to snuff. wrestling is one of the things im very knowledgeable about smiling bouncing smiley

How could you hate Micheals.....he's one of the last great wrestlers left. I will admit though, I did like Micheals better before he "found God".....

I watch every show that airs (WWE/TNA). I'm far from a mark for them but it is entertaining. Grew up watching it...first match I watched was SNME Hogan vs. Volkoff.

Stopped watching around '92...got too cartoon-ish. Stupid, really.

Then in '98, after much persuasion from friends to "come watch the PPV", I gave it a shot. That was the PPV w/the Mankind - Undertaker Hell In A Cell. Remember, I hadn't watched it in a few years...when they were up on the cell I was like "they're fucked if they fall". Moments later, madness ensued. Hooked from that point.

It had the sex/violence/humor combo I was looking for. It's getting rather watered down lately though. No one diving from the Titantron...getting thrown through glass...no Divas losing tops (remember the evolution of boobshots from Sable's painted hands over her set to the Kat delivering on a promise to flash her puppies at a PPV then unfortunately Mae Young did the same a month or two later? Eeww).

I don't need every match to be a gimmick match or for someone's face to get peeled or a performer almost getting "Droz"ed...but they should try veering away from the desire to put out a PG product. When they were breaking boundaries/rules, it stirred controversy. People talked, Vince got his pub, viewers tuned in to see what the fuss was about. Hopefully TNA will begin to compete, forcing WWE to do better. drinking smiley

guitars224, i was able to tolerate shawn michaels to an extent until i read his book winking smiley and then this adds to my hatred (especially after hearing shawn's side of the story)...

lol at this having it's own seperate wiki page

im thinking about getting the 3 disc 'hell in a cell' DVD set that just came out. there is a couple i havent seen. brock lesnar v. undertaker to name one off the top of my head. though i always hated brock lesnar (still do). he was fucking sloppy and injured hella people, all of them could have been prevented. it was like he never practiced or something. he totally sucked, which was always odd to me because he was a collegiate wrestler and thats some of the best pre-professional training you can get.

i always enjoyed the extreme gimmicks and story lines for the most part (katie vick is by far the worst ever!!!), but i could give two shits about "divas." girl wrestlers are awesome, and valets are imperative. but alot of these chicks now dont even know day one wrestling moves and are getting fucking title shots. most of the girl wrestlers i like are not in the wwf because of this reason. speaking of which, there is an awesome documentary called lipstick and dynamite, piss and vinegar. it has a great and informative (though kinda dramatic at times) history and lineage of girl wrestlers. going way back into the old-school.

in my other post i mentioned jericho's flunky getting released and i couldnt remember his name, well it came to me yawning smiley it was lance cade, and apparently what happened was he had a seizure on an airplane. which is an odd reason to get released, so i smell a rat. i didnt pay much attention to his career, but i would imagine he would have ended up being pushed to the moon if this hadnt happened. considering he was trained by shawn michaels and even though he was still kinda green he was being featured in the number one feud for raw that's going on.

I can't believe I forgot about the "Montreal ScrewJob", I ordered Survivor Series that year, 1996/97....I remember McMahon getting spit on by Hart..but why would you hate Micheals for that..he was just carrying out Vince's orders.

I wasn't aware of the whole Lance Cade situation...

10/18/08 2:10 PM

Cade's seizure was, from what I've read, the result of him "messing up"...like with the Wellness Policy or something. Drug induced?

10/18/08 5:35 PM

i am a loyal veiwer of RAW especially. i hope Austin is voted in for Cyber Sunday (i did my part haha). i too have the same question : WTF happened to Jehrico?! he used to be kick ass but now he's just..... i don't know.

I think if it was drug induced then they would just suspend him like they did Jeff Hardy, they didn't try to hide it..but I really don't know.

10/19/08 12:23 PM

I linked to JRs blog from an inside site I go to and he wrote about Cade that it was like a "misstep" or a bad decision was made on his part (he meant to have a seizure?) then went on to say maybe he can come back in the future.

I dunno.

10/19/08 9:31 PM

Love it, especially RAW. Haven't been able to stand Smackdown because it's just filled with losers. They won't push MVP or Carlito (the guy can pull a random move out of his ass and make it look freakin amazing) and insist on a Jeff Hardy as main eventer.

I've been watching it for 21 years, since I was 5.

10/19/08 10:47 PM

It's pretty much a fact that Cade obviously had a bad overdose on something. Getting suspended for what basically amounted to an overdose would be a slap in the face to alot of people. The punishment doesn't fit the crime, in that case. They did the right thing.

Besides, he sucked. Trevor Murdoch ftw.

I'm obviously a huge Jericho fan. I like the subtle transition from "SAVE_US" to "SAVE_ME". Professionally, he's not in a downward spiral (lulz), but mentally, yeah, he probably is. This is all talking about his character, obviously. Anyway, I for one hope Orton is the guest referee. They need to distance themselves away from Stone Cold like they have with The Rock. They have nothing left to give anymore. Stone Cold doesn't come in and put anyone over (Santino), he just drinks a beer, insults them, and Stunners them. That's not good for anyone but Stone Cold. Focus on the next generation, like Orton, Rhodes, DiBiase, Punk, Kendrick, Benjamin, etc.

Female wrestling in the WWE was at its best during the late 90's with Chyna, Trish Stratus, Molly Holly, Jackie, Ivory and Lita. I know pro wrestling for the most part is pretty staged but at least these women actually moved, leaped, and kicked. It was also pretty great seeing a woman like Chyna actually competing with men until she underwent excessive plastic surgery and did Playboy. Trish Status and Lita were also very attractive women who did not forsake their femininity for sportsmanship and performance. Much different story these days with the Divas.

10/20/08 8:18 AM

Diva wrestling is AWFUL!! The only two that can wrestle are Victoria (and how many years have they buried her repeatedly??!!) and Mickie James. Aside from that, every other Diva is just blonde and boring. Diva wrestling is a piss break for me.

I was a big fan of WWE for years but what did it for me was all these "bra and panty" fights. Ok, I know men for the most part *love* pretty girls barely dressed. I don't have a problem with that, but Vince McMahon should leave that stuff out of the ring. The women who really "competed" made me a fan. I actually looked forward to seeing Chyna, Lita, and Trish Status compete. WWE had several other women on the rouster that actually moved. Once Chyna was cut and Lita and Trish Status started to leave, that did it for me. The Divas competing for Woman's Title just only plays into how fake pro wrestling is.

For me WWE was at its best during the 90's when WWE had The Rock, Stone Cold, "X" (forgot the name of the group of these wrestlers, but it was entertaining to see these guys because of great their mike skills), really great tag team matches (Hardy Boyz!), and women in the ring that you can appreciate their skills. However given some of deaths of some of the WWE wrestlers during this decade involving steroids and lack of quality of life issues, I really wish someone would just pull the plug on Vince McMahon and his family altogether. McMahon unfortunately monapolizes wrestling. Allow other managers/owners into the ring (pardon the pun)so that at least these men and woman have someone else other than McMahon to go to for their careers. That dude just sucks and it is so evident that he could care less about the people he employs. Ethically, I have a huge problem with Vince McMahon and aside from the extreme sexism with the Divas, I just can't watch WWE anymore.

10/21/08 10:42 AM

Last night's episode of RAW was pretty good, although I HATE that they're making Jericho a "peper champion" AGAIN (they did the same in 2002 for his first Championship run against HHH, and just BURIED HIM). Rather than be a strong heel, they make him a weak heel and Batista dominates as usual, because they refuse to bring anybody else into the top tier. They're too afraid to take a chance on CM Punk, because they feel he's not ready to carry the company for longer than 2 months.

10/21/08 12:17 PM

i missed the main event. and since bf didnt harp about it, i didnt miss much i assume. wtf is with this 'adamely original' bullshit? so...did the three people job out twice last night, or did batista and jericho fight them together? i dont get it. also, even though i didnt see it, im almost positive that kane and kahli were two of the three wrestlers. im right arent i? who were the three?

and yeah, jericho is being branded as a weak heel. i know he's capable of better. i was cool with it at first, he was making classic heel comments and moves. then it just tanked. especially with that "respect" soapbox he was on eye rolling smiley

and what is with this 800th episode shit in 2 weeks? didnt that already happen?

also, vince doesnt trust cm punk because he was over on day one. without vince's help. and you know vince likes to breed his own superstars to his liking. punk was already a household name is some states. most notably the midwest due to the numerous indies he worked there. i've known about punk for years. also punk is kind of small for wwf standards. and only shawn michaels can get away with being a small champ. winking smiley

^yeah well, as soon as the steroid pressure hits *BAM!!* small champion. Case point: Rey "I still can't talk on the mic after 15 years in the spotlight" Mysterio.

The whole gauntlet thing was a sham, as I expected it to be. William Regal was buried by both wrestlers, then Mark Henry was buried by both, and then Batista won by beating Kane because Jericho got DQ's against Kane. They just buried all of Regal's credibility so Batista could get over AGAIN. I'm just tired of the same "crew" that gets repeated championship runs: Cena, Orton, Batista, Michaels and HHH.

You raise a good point about CM Punk. I used to live outside Chicago and used to watch CM Punk and Acid do battle in their classic matches. They were great, and it looks like Vince doesn't trust CM Punk to be able to stay in the main event tier with the other 5 "belt traders" that are in it right now.

It infuriates me they are burying Jericho to give Batista yet ANOTHER title run.

10/22/08 8:23 PM

i like Batista but he's had the title too many times. i wish they'd just give it back to Punk. and for more than just a couple weeks this time. =)

10/23/08 9:13 AM

If there EVER was a poster for steriod use, it's Batista..I don't care who you are or your profession, you don't get like that without "help". I hope Jericho kicks his ass at Cyber Sunday but I don't think it will happen unless Jericho can overcome the special guest ref (I think it will be Austin 3:16)....Stone Cold has always been sort of a "wild card" when he is put in these situations..

What does everyone think of the Benoit tragedy?

^Well as much as I agree with you, they want to bury Jericho so they can push Batista AGAIN. I doubt Jericho will win, but sometimes they do a swerve, so maybe it will happen?

About the Benoit tragedy, it was shocking and sad. I hated how they decided to have a witch hunt for steroids afterwards and all the media outlets ran their own perverse anti-WWE documentaries/

10/23/08 6:13 PM

also a tell tale sign that batista (or anybody) uses 'roids is the fact that he has injured his bicep many times in a pretty short period. easily tearing/injuring muscles is very common with prolonged use. same thing with HHH and his quad. i think trips is clean now though.

as for benoit, it was odd for me. but look at his hero (also one of my favorites), the dynamite kid (i reccomend every wrasslin fan read dynamite's book; fucking heart wrenching). in addition to the roids, benoit also had brain damge. his wife was in the business, so he couldnt escape it through her, and his child had fragile x. he snapped, and since he wasnt right in the head, he took it too far. his only way out was suicide. it's so weird to look through bf's wrestling pics he's taken and benoits pops up o_0 cause wwf pretty much made it so he never existed. /soapbox: but fucking vince helped jimmy snuka (who i 100% believe killed his wife) by testifying in court. why does he still come out from time to time?!?!? /soapbox

Actually the fragile x issue turned out to be false. There was never any record of him being diagnosed with it nor was he being held back in school.

I didn't about the brain damage thing though... apparently it was REALLY bad too so in light of that, I kind of wonder how much he'd be held accountable for if he were still alive.

And whoa... I didn't know about the incident with Snuka and his girlfriend either...
