If you go by the directors cut, then yes.
The origami unicorn, as it relates to the dream sequence, confirms this. If you go by the original version, without the dream sequence, then I'd say no.
posted:Well, that's superfluous when the plot doesn't work. The movie fails hardest exactly at the end, with the naive line: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die. Oh, the drama.
I thought that was beautifully done. Melodramatic? Maybe, but still a great scene.
I thought that Ridley Scott's attempt to make a dysphoric, modern noir sci-fi epic was a daunting task, but paid off in spades. I definitely prefer the directors cut, as the voice-over and tacked on happy ending in the original film were unnecessary. Kind of like comparing Phil Spector's "Let it Be" to "Let it Be: Naked."

I agree. It's a good film, but wasn't that good. I thought Eastwood's last one or the
Wrestler should have won best picture.
Add
Crash to the list over overrated films.
