You can get an odds & ends compilation of "orphaned" episodes from the 60s (for example, a 4 part story where only episode 1 survives).

They had a nice way of completing the 60s story "The Crusades" - only episode 1 and 3 (of 4) exist, but to tie it all together they got one of the actors from the story to do some linking sequences. His character in DW was Chesterton, a schoolteacher from 60s London.

Basically they had him now (ie a really old man) sat in a plush office full of books, recounting his bizarre story for the viewer - it works really well!

Also for the story "The Invasion", on the dvd the missing episodes are animated, and it's pretty awesome tbh

Anybody see Neil Gaiman's episode yesterday? Have to say I really enjoyed it, probably one of the best episodes since the 80s. It got a bit of a hammering on the DW forum I frequent though XD

Was that Neil doing the bad guy's voice

Is it just me or are the old-school Cyberman way more creepy and cool than the newer ones?

05/15/11 5:36 PM

I like the new cybermen's faces, but that's about it. I don't like this loud clanky stompy march thing... Cybermen are supposed creep up on you & strangle you by... er... squeezing your shoulders XD

Best Cybermen for me are all 60s ones & The Earthshock ones. I don't like the Revenge cybermen's stupid voices & general bullshit. Later 80s ones got rid of the glass jaw, which was a shame

I think the reason the Cybermen stopped being creepy is because in the early ones they're more like mostly mute techno-zombies, whereas in later ones they become more akin to star wars stormtroopers or cylons, which is something that continues in the new series. The Borg from Star Trek were creepy as fuck & they pretty much behave like early cybermen

Nah it was Michael Sheen from Tron 2 & The Damned United

I was listening to the Cymberman from The Tenth Planet and they give me the creeps. Something genuinly spooky about them...The newer ones are kind of cartoonish.

I used to really be into Dr. Who, and like 20 years ago I got these four audio tapes that went into great detail about the orgins of the Cymberman.

Anybody else watch the mid-season finale, "A good man goes to war"?

Not mentioning spoilers here, but I loved it! While a lot of the promotion of it was centred around the reveal of River's identity, there were so many brilliant moments: Rory as the last centurion, The Sontaran nurse, Crime-fighting Victorian samurai-sword wielding interspecies lesbians...

A lot of people are disappointed about River but I couldn't really care less. The season is only at the half way point & just because we have this one piece of information, doesn't mean we know how the rest of the story is going to play out!

disappointed about River? my mind was blown.

Have to say; I'm still a fan of Moffat's writing & even though it was obvious for most of this season; looking back at River's stories from prior seasons, I definitely believe he had her character arc planned from the beginning.
I think people were disappointed because they figured it out & they wanted to be surprised or something, but I was still able to enjoy the episode regardless.

For viewers on the previous page: Audio for ALL Doctor Who episodes exists. However, it is only the 1970's and beyond where all the episodes footage exist. The second doctor is most affected by the BBC wiping policy which came into effect in the early 1970's and ended in 1978. This was done to save space and re-use the costly video-tape the episodes were recorded on. All episodes that have been recovered (the earliest surviving ORIGINAL video tape is an episode from the third doctor) have been copies from overseas that were distributed prior to wiping, or some episodes like "Doctor Who and the Silurians" are composite pictures taken from a home-recorded colour video, and a black and white 16mm film, combined to create a high-quality dvd release.

...Any questions?

I don't watch Dr Who, but I find Karen Gillan attractive in a cute, innocent, girl-next-door kinda way

^^Did you know that she is 6 feet tall??? I think she used to be a model.

08/08/11 8:09 AM

^^ Most of those 6+ feet are her legs...
(seriously, they're incredible)
Case in point: the 2011 Comic relief mini episode Time (parts one & two) If you haven't seen it yet, rectify immediately, it's hilarious!

Just watched the latest Doctor Who episode "Night Terrors". Great episode to watch on Halloween!!! It was scary (I think I'm a wimp...).

09/11/11 11:17 AM

I love this friggin show. I didn't know much about it until my friend had me sit down and watch the first few eps. I was sold pretty much instantly.

Daleks are what truly won me over though. Anything that badass that can trash talk like that is a winner in my book.

I want so bad to have a mini-dalek I could put on a leash and take for walks as it trash talked and shot lasers at anything and everything it seen. Adorable and awesome!

Doctor Who is a very great show.. I always watch this show...
This is a very nice show........

One of our local tv stations has been replaying Doctor Who each night of the week. Tonight's episode was "Journey's End" and it made me feel a little sad because Elisabeth Sladen was in it.

ABC2 for the win!
& yes, season 4 was so good, but could be SO sad (& don't even get me started on Liz Sladen....I can't make it through series 2's "School reunion" anymore)

03/18/12 4:38 AM

^^Yes indeed, ABC2 for the win. smiling smiley

Remember a few years ago ABC1 was replaying Doctor Who from the beginning? I *cough* recorded the episodes *cough* and I think my favourite era would have to be the Tom Baker era, especially the Elisabeth Sladen episodes. RIP Sarah Jane Smith, the world is a little sadder for your loss.

03/18/12 3:38 PM

YES! I remember that, it was around the time the "rebooted" who was starting, they played the classic episodes earlier in the evening. Which was great for me, cause obviously i'd never seen the Hartnell, Troughton or Pertwee (I did see reruns of Tom Baker's era growing up though! So the 4th has always been my favourite also)

05/26/12 6:02 AM

ABC2 is still re-playing Doctor Who. Last night's episode was "School Reunion". It made me feel a bit sad because the late Elisabeth Sladen was in it. She looked almost the same as she did when Tom Baker was The Doctor.

I love Dr. who, watched when I was a kid and still do, the original series.
I liked Jon Pertwee but I loved Tom Baker, absolutely the best and longest
Doctor, period.

06/27/12 9:24 AM

WHEN IN THE FUCK ARE THE NEW EPISODES GONNA START!?!

06/28/12 6:06 AM

I think Tom Baker might be my favourite Doctor as well. smiling smiley I have a soft spot for that era of Doctor Who.

One of our local tv stations is still running through the most recent series of Doctor Who. They're played Monday-Friday (which is pretty fucking cool!!!!) and tonight's episode was The Last Of The Time Lords. Kind of sad, in a way.

06/28/12 8:04 PM

While the BBC hasn't announced a date, based on when they finished filming, I think series 7 should be starting in Spring (here in Aus, Autumn everywhere else) so around September.

06/30/12 6:08 AM

^^Excellent news!!!! I was wondering when the new season might start. smiling smiley
