Has anyone read any of this series?

I haven't read any of the books or know what they're about, but here's a fun fact:

Hurt is quoted in The Dark Tower VII

It's really interesting... I LOVE LOVE LOVE Stephen King and have read everything, well except for his newest Ur, and I HATED!!!! these books. I guess I expected to much of them. I've read them all, but don't care for them at all.

i'm reading the fourth one at the moment and they are just brilliant, I can't wait to see how it all turns out and I will probably end up reading them all again. I love Stephen King but these books are so different from his other work and in my opinion are his best books

ME TOO! I've read a lot of the prequel comics though, (which I wouldn't recommend before reading at least book 4 apparently, since it has a lot of surprises) so I know a lot about it, had to take some time off and read some stuff out of necessity, but I'm getting back to The Drawing. They're really good and he considers them his masterpiece, great to see a thread here the first time I look in this section. Also, he references a lot of his other books and a lot of characters from other books, so I've decided to read it first, but I'm also reading The Stand, I just finished the first section.

i've read the whole series. started when the first three were out. the waitting for the rest was almost unbearable.
the best story i've ever read.
im preparing myself for another round smiling smiley

I've just about finished The Wolves of the Calla. After he had released the first four he was hit by a car and seriously injured...imagine if he hadn't been able to finish the series...

09/09/10 10:56 AM

His accident actually comes into play later in the series...

I just found out something yesterday that made me almost jizz my pants with excitement and happiness...

The Dark Tower saga is being filmed!

They're doing it in a completely new format that will either turn out to be stupidly genius, or a multi million dollar fiasco, and I'm really hoping that it works out. There's going to be three movies with at least one season of a television series between each release that keeps the story going. What's even better is the fact that Ron Howard is directing both the first film and TV series. I think it's safe to assume that Wizard and Glass is going to be a part of the TV series since 99% of the book takes place long before The Gunslinger starts

I really can't wait for this! I'm as giddy about it as a little schoolgirl on crack smiling bouncing smiley

I love The Dark Tower! Took me ages to finish, but it was worth it. Loved the ending grinning smiley

@The_Prowler: Really? Where did you hear that? That's fantastic news hot smiley

I saw an article about it online yesterday. I'd share the link, but I can't find it anymore sad smiley And it was really only two paragraphs long. And they were short paragraphs, at that

If this works it could be a really interesting game changer in media.
I didn't like the books to much, but I'd give the movie/tv show a shot. Those actors are going to be seriously incredibly busy people when they start..

Yeah, I got the email yesterday....time will tell....

I didn't know there'd be a series too, sweetness!

I've always wanted to read this saga since 2004. I could never find the first book at my library though, but I think they have all the rest.

I've just purchased book one thumbs up

11/03/10 1:10 AM

I bought the first 4 books at my local used book sale, and I'm enjoying the first one so far. I'm only a hundred or so pages in...it has the makings of an epic story.

I wonder how they are going to fund it, I hope it doesn't lead to poor actors playing important roles.

It is epic. especially the third book. blaine........ What would be awesome is if NIN did a soundtrack for the movies. If you like this Dark Tower, you'll love The Talisman. That book is tied in to the Dark Tower universe. So amazing.

I read the series a couple of years ago and enjoyed it very much. I thought a couple of the books were a little weak and that the story had a few rough spots, but overall it was very enjoyable. I'll be curious to see the film adaptations....

I just read that there is a new DT novel coming out sometime in the next year, and it will take place:

"King writes that the story takes place between the time when Roland Deschain and his ka-tet leave the Emerald City (Wizard and Glass) and when we pick them up again on the outskirts of Calla Bryn Sturgis, at the beginning of Wolves of the Calla. This new story won’t add anything major to the story arc we already know, but will provide us with more depth and knowledge of past and present Mid-World."
