no Mention of "the Sandman" comics by Neil Gaiman?
These are some of the most well written Graphic novels I have ever laid eyes on.
Its a shame that there are only 8 volumes. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Well I think it's common knowledge that Sandman is probably one of the best comics ever.

09/05/08 12:55 PM

Thats why I was nearly stunned by noone mentioning it.
Amazing story...

Ever read Lucifer? It was a spin-off of Sandman. Wasn't written by Gaiman, but it was a wonderful series.

Yes, it's great.

You guys heard about the Kick-Ass movie, right?

And I spend about 60-80 bucks a month on comics.... but hey, at least I'm reading :-D

When I got back into comics last fall, I didn't expect to get more then 2-5 comics a week... now my average is about 6-9 books a week. This week I got 8 of them, last week was over-kill with a whopping record 15 books for 47 buckseye popping smiley

comics are a drug the finger smiley

It's been mentioned several times.

I just finished the 5th trade and I need to pick up the 6th from the library some time.
Really great books.

e; Also: There are people who legitimately like Jason Todd? What the fuck?

I don't really understood why they did either - and it wasn't like bringing him back was very kind to Jason either. After all he's been through, I can kind of understand where he's coming from sometimes. And I'll be the first person to tell you that he's a douche and an asshole and runs his mouth and does things he never should, but tt's the psychology of his character that interests me. I dunno. I also like misunderstood underdogs. You're supposed to not like him - he's crazy as a sack of rattlesnakes too - but in his own way he reaches out. I dunno how else to try and explain it.

But beyond Jason? I'm not sure I'm down with Batman: RIP. I've not read enough to really have a whole opinion but.. I just dunno. :/

On a whole other note I love drawing Batman fanart. I've got a rather entertaining picture that I'm working on right now of a very wet and very pissed off Nightwing. I need to add a thought bubble of Babs cheerfully reminding him to never swim in the Gotham Harbor without his Haz-Mat suit. Here's a LINK to my Batman and other fanart thread if you care to see any.

09/07/08 1:46 AM

Stopped paying attention to comics in the mid-90's really. Recently though I've picked up a few of the Punisher MAX trade paperbacks (do people still call them that?). Awesome stuff.

09/07/08 1:35 PM

wooooooooo.

reading some older "new xmen" stuff, not to shabby. and ultimate spidey vol. 20 owned.

09/07/08 2:42 PM

Not Morrison and Quitely's arcs on New X-Men I hope?

I adored comic books (mostly action) during my childhood up until high school. I wonder what ever happened to my X-Men and Spawn ones hmmm...

There is this comic book store I would like to check out since moving into the city. I've been out-of-touch for quite some time now, so are there any recommendations on good action comics I could get from anyone? (:

Trade paperbacks: Moon Knight : The Bottom, Planet Hulk, World War Hulk, Iron Fist: The Last Iron Fist Story, any of the new Brubaker Captain America run (particularly the Omnibus if you have the cash which covers 1-25), and also just for fun any of the Marvel Zombies.

Comics: Hulk (aka Red Hulk, Iron Fist, Captain America, X-Force, Justice League of America, Justice Society of America, and Green Lantern are all great and full of action normally.

09/09/08 12:35 PM

Now im on the vol.2 of spawn

09/09/08 12:39 PM

uhh...I read most of Frank Miller's stuff, Watchmen, some Dragon Ball Z stuff when I get around to it...

...and don't forget...BATTLE POPE!!!!

09/09/08 9:56 PM

Thank you guys..I trekked over there this afternoon and I'm getting back into Spawn, also checked out some of your recommendations! Battle Pope is hilarious!
Spawn comics are one of the reasons I still find clowns frightening.
Isn't there a movie based on Watchmen coming out in theaters soon? And what is with the character resembling Batman?
Hey, I was wondering..Is Invader Zim in comic book form? That would be killer! GIR is my absolute favorite.

...All of the Joker avatars are creeping me out.

09/09/08 9:22 PM

But the shit is that greg capullo dosen't draw anymore... sad smiley
Some works i love to are from Ben Templesmith

09/09/08 9:41 PM

I know that it seems pretty... I don't know, scene? now, but Watchmen is the only thing DC ever distributed I ever liked. Batman is better when it's out of DC control at this point (ie the Nolan movies have redefined the entire series altogether).

Spider-Man is good for the first hundred and something issues, up till the end of the Gwen Stacy Revenge issue. That's about it.

09/10/08 1:05 PM

I love me some Preacher. It's like Garth Ennis was all "ok, every page must have something mind blowingly bad ass on it" and then started writing. I think he succeeded.
