I actually started with New Moon cos I was shopping, it was right there, and my best friend (who generally has good taste regarding books) raved about the series. I read it, was totally puzzled as to why everyone was so smitten with the books, and thought, Well, maybe if I go back and read the first one . . . And I still didn't "get" it.

Plus-- why does everyone think Edward is so hot? He's a control freak, and sort of a wuss to boot!

I have read books 1, 2 and 3 in the twilight series.

Personally, I enjoyed 1 and loved 2, but I just couldn't get into 3 the same way, it just didn't feel anywhere near as strong as the first two for me, bar the character of Jacob's storyline.

Because of this I haven't read breaking dawn yet.

How well would everyone say breaking dawn measures up to the first three books?

As for the hype, I think way too over-hyped, they are good books for the most part, and, on an emotive level easy (for at least teens) to relate to, however, there are far better books that deserve the same amount of hype and to be made into a movie (I cite here Scott Sigler's Infected, Clive Barker's weaveworld and Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy.)

Finally, I agree on the point that the character of Edward has not been very well cast at all, though, in all fairness, the vividness of his description in the book would make finding someone with a vaguely similar look rather difficult (though that doesn’t mean the guy won’t be able to act the part)

Had to listen to my Girlfriends younger sister give me a synopsis of the entire fucking thing... I'm sure it is technically fine, it just isn't my thing (although, Vampires that "Twinkle" I was told, in sunlight... GTFO). At this rate she'll probably force the book into my hands, and when I have nothing else to read. I'll have to...sad smiley I am not looking forward to it.

Also, I did see the trailer for the film, god no... (For a few reasons, like if this "Edward" the main vampire is intended to be "ZOMG SO SEXY 101010", then you'll never capture that. All the fans will be like "DIDN'T LIVE UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS)

I think the movie looks alright. There are a few things not the same as the book, but it's a movie, it will happen.
I can't wait for the movie, I'll probably re-read the first book (for the 6th time hah) before I go see it smiling smiley

If you didn't like book 3, I wouldn't bother with 4. Seemed like a rush-job to me (to be fair, I'm sure Meyer had agents, publishers, fans, and so on breathing down her neck, waiting for her to finish it), it dragged on way too long, and some of the characterizations seemed rather weak. Read The Host instead!

I just finished breaking dawn last night and was a little disappointed, It felt like it should have been 2 books written a little better. I enjoyed it though it seemed like the ending was just to easy on all of the characters, there should have been a little more bloodshed so the overall happiness was more .... earned. it seemed like Meyer was too scared to kill off any main characters.

I love the series and I can't wait for the movie.

I held off reading these books forever, though I always was tempted to pick the up for the covers alone. A friend of mine let me borrow the first three books and I loved them, so I went and bought Breaking Dawn when it came out and ugh. So disappointing. I actually just wrote a blog about it on my myspace, won't go into it for spoiler reasons here.
Anyway, looking forward to the movie. On thing I've noticed from the previews is it never really shows Bella being clumsy, like how she's described in the books. I'll be kind of disappointed if she isn't constantly tripping over herself. And no offense to Mr Control Freak, but I'm definitely on Team Jacob. winking smiley

Just finished Eclipse, I liked it alot. Unfortunately I looked at the movie's imdb and couldn't get that crappy excuse for Edward that they've cast out of my head. Seriously, the whole time I was reading it I could see that guy's beady eyes and shitty hair. I'm still going to the movie though (the premiere, actually) even though I pretty much know what it's going to turn out like.

^Listen bitch, you are going to scream like a total fangirl as soon as you see him on the big screen. It will be as if RobinF sat down on your lap-you will be that excited...Srsly.

10/29/08 2:20 PM

Holy shit, Twilight movie>Robin Finck lap dance?? Bring it!!

Actually I am excited to see it. I just had a different guy in my head for Edward. Don't know who, though. I heard this guy is actually a pretty good actor too.

10/29/08 7:59 PM

hahaha I can't wait for Vegas..

10/29/08 10:44 PM

ughhh Twilight. I try to be nice, because one of my dear friends is IN LOVE with it. But personally, I can't stand it. I couldn't even finish it. It's so...cliche. And it's like bad fanfiction where the author very obviously lives out some cheesy fantasy.

But I will go see the movie. Why? Because someone I know is in it. He went to my school, and got paid a shit load to do it. But he knew nothing about the plot previous to that, and I'm pretty sure he got annoyed by all the obsessive, "sparkly" eyed fangirls

Oh and holy potatoes I get to meet the actor who plays Edward Cullen on the 11th!

I haven't read Twilight, but... I really don't want to.

Not my kind of book and looks incredibly over-hyped. Most quotes (both those put up to be made fun of and those put up in praise of the book) make me want to vomit from sheer cheese, sparkly vampires scare me in a way that vampires shouldn't, and I don't think that being clumsy is a valid character flaw.

Then again, I didn't think I'd like Harry Potter before I read it and it's one of my favorite pop-books.

When it comes to vampires, I like guys like Vlad the Impaler (Vald Dracul III, partial inspiration for Dracula and would kill his own citizens and put their heads on sticks to frighten away potential invaders), and that one contessa that would lure peasant virgin girls to her castle under the facade of having a "reform school" and then she killed and tortured them and bathed in their blood thinking that it would give her eternal youth. Badass real live vampires.

Because I want to see this movie so badly - & because I forgot that Stephenie (& Bella) are from here - I will most definitely be getting the Saga boxed set, or whatever it is so I can play with all of you. Plus, there isn't much vampire fiction out there that I haven't read so I don't know what took me so long.

I like how the story is set in Washington. I can totally feel the miserable weather throughout the books. And Forks is such a shitty town

lmao...you win...

I'd have stopped reading the book altogether though, if the story was set in Twisp

I gave in to the hype and read Twilight a couple of weeks ago while I was sick. I hated myself because I could not put it down, but the entire time I was reading it, I was angry. These have to be the wimpiest Vampire characters EVER. The only badass ones show up at the end. I'm sure I would have liked it when I was 11, but I was reading VC Andrews at 11, so the lack of sex would have been a disappointment.

I'm currently reading Charlaine Harris' Dead until Dark which satisfies me much more.
