What can I say? Once in a blue moon I like to read about unrealistic and romantic vampire stuff. I also prefer to read something through or see for myself before knocking it. I don't expect the same things out of a book like this that I do with the heavier topics I am usually involved in.

I saw the movie and didn't really care for it. The novel was better. I've finished all the books in the series. They're on the cheesey side. I can understand why a lot of guys would shy away from them. They're about 70% romance and only 30% action. The kissing scenes get really disgusting after a while, even if you like romance novels. The books are supposed to be written for teenagers. That's why there's no sex or cursing in them. Plus the author was raised in a Mormon family. This had a large influence on her principles and the main character's decision to wait till she got married. Meyer drones on and on endlessly about her brothers, sisters and her musical taste, but she fails to acknowledge her most important influences like soap operas, Stephen King, and Anne Rice-- who she has so obviously borrowed from. I'm surprised the producers of Days of Our lives haven't pulled a Joe Satriani on her for using their character names and plotlines. In the end, Meyer is just a pop culture junkie with an English degree who decided to pass the time while her kids were napping or in school by writing vampire romances.

I read the books they were ok. I wanted to kill Bella in the end, what a whingey whiney little bitch.

I am a total Harry Potter fangirl. But Twilight, was just something to read, easy read. I hate not having a book to read, so I was recommended to read them. I did i enjoyed, but do not get the obsession.

The movie wasn't fantastic, but I don't think it was horrible, it could have been much much worse.

I don't think Edward could have been made anything akin to what people envisioned in the book, as hollywood they are a bit limited and people's tastes differ.

With that in mind you might as well say that Brad Pitt was a bad choice for Adonis in Troy because others didn't envision Adonis to look like that... or wanted George Clooney because others think he's the best looking man...so on and so forth

... I Hate the twilight books.. The characters all seriously lack personality... Beautiful is not a personality trait... They also lack flaws, And anything that a normal person would consider negative, (IE, Edwards control issues)are turned into a positive trait.."He's controlling because he loves me" .. =p
.. For a female lead, bella is way to whiny and dependent.. Can't get along without a boyfriend.. .. Not exactly someone to be admired...
... There is not much in terms of plot either.. Other than sappy romance, I couldn't find any sort of plot O.O... Don't think they're all that well written either.. How many times does Meyer have to explain how beautiful her characters are?

I did get irritated with some of the repetitiveness when describing Edward,(his eyes over and over) but it was no biggie. Bella also irritates me with her constant clumsiness,I mean dayum,can someone REALLY be that accident prone?? But I'm partial to Jasper. He does have a few flaws (covered in bite scars).

But when it comes down to it,I liked both the movies and the books. Thought they were fun. And it is a romance novel,but each book has somewhat of a plot to it.

I just finished reading all of the series back to back and I have to say I enjoyed reading it. After finishing Twilight, I went to see the movie and was only a tad disappointed in parts. I totally get that "Hollywood" has to change some things and add some things but some other movies have it WAY out there from the books. Take Queen of the Damned for instance...totally different movie than the book. Having said that all in all Twilight the movie was kept pretty close to the book, which I found surprising.

Anyone have a favorite character other than Edward and Bella? Mine was Jasper, I thought his character was well written and intriguing and I wish I knew more about him.

I was given Twilight as a present for Christmas, and I think I'm four pages into it at the moment. I keep putting it off and reading other books instead.
I wasn't keen on the idea or planning to read the books, as the hype is a bit irritating and from what I've heard they don't sound particularly appealing anyway. I'm going to attempt to actually read it though, mostly so that I have done, and be able to thank the person who gave it to me, but haven't a clue as to what I'll think of it by the time I'm finished. (Or how long it'll take me to get that far, what with the snail's pace-rate I'm going at at the moment..)

One of my friends bought Twilight for my husband as a gag gift for Christmas and I decided to pick it up and read it. I finished it the same day I started it.

It was an easy read. I liked some of the basics. The Stephanie M's idea for vampires is one of the worst in my opinion. Daylight sparkley boys anyone? I think I could have done without that.

I like Bella's temper, but towards the end she gets a little OCD with the whole "dont leave me" thing. That seemed less in character for a 17 year old who's managed to keep a level head.

For my tastes, I like something a hell of alot more gritty.

All in all, not a bad book. Not one I'll go nuts over though. That said I wouldn't mind seeing what she does with the werewolf side of things.

My friend wants to take me to go see the movie. I think its an excuse for her to go see it multiple times, but whatever. I'm game.

I guess its overly innocent and naive for me.

I am reading twilight and almost through the last book. i've really enjoyed it so far. there were some ups and downs.. not so facinating parts and riveting parts. i cried alot but i cry alot anyway. i also like books that are little harder but for the teen type of book that it was meant to be.. i guess it fits that bill.

i've not read any comments here yet because im not done reading the books and i dont want to read something im not supposed to know just yet.

i'll be back when im done reading.. hopefully by the end of the week (im a slow reader)..

So I decided to read all the books after seeing the movie,which was decient. I knew there weren't wold class literature so I went in with an open mind.

I read book one and thought it was ok.
I read book two and was on Team Jacob but still wasn't impressed
I read book three and was glad to read about the backstories of the Cullens but was still not impressed


..Then i read book 4. What in the fucking hell is wrong with the author?

She basiclly turned Bella into a fucking mary-sue.She turned Jacob into a pussy? I mean,he keeps calling the Cullens blood suckers and then imprints Bella's kid?

If i read one more description of Edward being-cold,made of stone or about his amber eyes I am going to hurl.

And how come Bella gets pregnant the first time they have sex? No one gave em a condom?

I'm seriously mad at all the inconsitancies of these books.The author writes these books as if the audience was stupid. But also because Bella is the worst Heroine i have ever seen. And Edward is no prince charming.

The worst part is this is geared towards young adults,no wonder why it is sold at Hot topic because it glorifies being a vampire. Please.

I am waiting for book 3. A freind has the set so I am not reading the last part of 2 on purpose. Im almost done but i need 3. I am not reading above..I saw someone said"thanks for spoiling it for me" "lol" I want Bella to be a vampire damnitt. When i saw it was a teen series I thought...ehh But damn I am hooked and they are fast reads which is good for me at this time... I tend to Not be very focused at this time in my life. I Love reading..........One of my favorite things to dowinking smiley

As if the hundred plus items of Twilight shit that people throw all over the place in Hot Topic, where I work, wasn't enough of a reason to not even attempt to read the series, knowing that the author sullied the name of vampire mythology on the most basic level: their *entire* bodies are dead end of story, is just another reason to not even pick up the books or see the movie(s).

In the story, they were all fucking ROCKED that it was possible. It wasn't all warm and fuzzy, it was like ZOMGWTFhowthefuckisthispossibleBBQgetacoathangerandkillit!!!!!

I am reading New Moon right now. I read Twilight in like 2 and a half days (I actually just moved and should have been unpacking but I sat down at night to read and found that I couldn't put the book down). This is the first time I've read any vampire stuff since I read Anne Rice when I was in high school.
Now I am anxious to see the movie even though I know I will probably be disappointed which happens anytime I read a book and then see the movie. But who knows lol

Jesus you guys.

Where was all this glorifying of Bella going on in the books? They didn't glorify her at all, that is what makes it so accessible. She was plain, pedestrian and un-particular so all those girls out there can feel like they too are special enough to have extrodinary experiences-including, finding "true love". The fact that he is a vampire is the fantasy element that makes the book sensational.
It is FICTION (like the bible-lolz), not a guide to living life.

What is wrong with girls measuring boys against Edward Cullen? They won't get involved with some loser who wants to get into their pants? Oh no, that would be horrible. They won't have that mentality for too long, so I don't see anything wrong with it if they do.

While I'm on it, how did it escape so many people that the guy isn't supposed to be human, that he is an animalistic, teeth bearing, venomous blood drinker who growls? Of course he is unreasonably possessive, that is how aggressive predators behave with their mates.
