Not only is he an amazing writer, but he's one of the few whose prose can be described as poetic. He creates beautiful landscapes, and can make you nostalgic for things you never had.

Favorites of mine include; Farenheit451, Dandelion Wine, The Martian Chronicles and From The Dust Returned.

Any thoughts?

He is one of the only people I consider a hero. He inspires me to pick up my pen every day & he lives in Los Angeles & doesn't drive. thumbs up I was sad that I missed hearing him speak at the NASA-JPL tweetup last month.

Dandelion Wine is my favourite novel, but I have a beat-up large book of his short stories that I adore as well. Gotcha!, Uncle Einar (always wanted to name a band that) & The April Witch are probably my favourites. Oh, well, I can't leave out Boys! Raise Giant Mushrooms in Your Cellar!

Indeed not.

That's something else he's great at-short stories. I would say he's the best short story writer alive.

I have to admit I was disappointed with the theatrical release of Something Wicked This Way Comes. I love the book & after researching that Bradbury was very instrumental in adapting the story (initially the movie would have run 3-4 hours had his original script been kept) it was hard not seeing it how I interpreted the characters & scenery. Ah, well.

Also, I have this & now want to go watch it!

So what you are saying is I should have bought that signed edition on the weekend for $35?

Yes. And then given it to me.

The illustrated man...good one.

Fahrenheit451 was the second distopian novel I read (after This Perfect Day - Ira Levin, an often overlooked masterpiece), and I must and I really enjoyed it. It was different than the rest that I read subsequently and certainly held it's own quite easily. I read a short story of his in school but I can't for seem to recall it at the moment.

I'm glad to see some fans here and eager to break into some of tho other books that've been mentioned.

I really like the Martian Chronicles, and I used to have a giant collection of his short stories that I loved (my brother "borrowed" it a long time ago and I haven't seen it since). Back when I did prose reading for the speech team in high school, I cut down There Will Come Soft Rains-- my very favorite at the time, still a story I love-- to eight minutes as an entry. I read it so many times that I can still recite the cut by memory, haha.

For some reason, though, I'm not a fan of his straight-up novels. Fahrenheit 451 was fantastic the first time I read it, pretty good the second, but it's not something I can enjoy again and again.

^That's the collection I have! I should keep it bedside.

Recently rediscovered in my shelving (or piles on the floor yawning smiley):
One More For the Road
Quicker Than The Eye
Let's All Kill Constance

If you loved There Will Come Soft Rains, I think you'll love the little adaption it got (short but very satisfying)

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury is utterly amazing. It's a collection of short stories that chronicle the landing on and transformation of Mars into a habitable planet because we have destoryed Earth. Very relevent today and beautifully written.

I read Fahrenheit 451 about three years ago and remember really liking it. The movie is pretty cool too, but it doesn't stand up to the book.

I've been told I should read The Pedestrian though.
