Just got done with Something Wicked This Way Comes, for the third time. Damn, Bradbury just never gets boring!

Agreed. Magnificent writer.

My nigh on decade long difficulty with reading fiction continues... I've recently read Eating by Peter Singer and Jim Mason, and am now reading No Logo by Naomi Klein.

I read most nonfiction so:
Currently reading
Collapse - How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed - Jared Diamond
Summer for the Gods - The Scopes Trial and America's Continuing Debate Over Science and Religion - Edward Larson

Parecon: Life After Capitalism by Michael Albert

09/13/08 4:33 PM

The Story of Sushi: An Unlikely Saga of Raw Fish and Rice by Trevor Corson.

Good so far, but I don't think it's going to top his earlier book, The Secret Life of Lobsters.

Finally finished reading The elegant universe by Brian Greene, which will be added to my fave list. smiling smiley Even though physics used to be my least favourite school subject along with gym class and... music... Not that I got everything in this book, but I found that he was relatively FUCKING AWESOME at explaining some things. So, if you're looking for a good time... *bats the eyelashes of physics*

Now I'm reading Dude, where's my country? by Michael Moore. Because it has a funneh title!!!!1 Look, I'm getting all informed and stuff. winking smiley

i'm reading long hard road out of hell by marilyn manson. it's extremely addicting and interesting.

i can always tell where the editor interjected his thoughts because manson will explain why he did some of the things he did during performances in a matter-of-fact/bastardized way. it mentions trent reznor a few times and manson is quoted as saying trent is the only person in the industry that he trusts (hmm... wonder if that still stands).

I have that book; read it in one afternoon, I could NOT put it down. Manson is a very good writer, comes from being a journalist I suppose.

I'm currently reading Twilight:Eclipse, at work during lunch break.
I'm also reading the 2nd Anita Blake (Vampire Hunter) book: Laughing Corpse. I read that when I'm home. Believe me, sometimes it gets confusing keeping the undead separate!

Yes, I love vampires. Twilight is good, but I'm not gonna leave my husband for Edward...it's cute how the teeny-boppers are losing their minds over this series! eye rolling smiley

Yeah, I couldn't put that damn thing down, like I was mesmerized or something... It was a revolting and repulsive insight into the life and mind of a weirdo which made it irresistible.

Then my mother discovered it on my shelf and borrowed it. I gave it to her. She's not the average mother, mind you... At 1st she was like "WTF is this shit, why did you waste your money on such crap?" and a couple of days later she came over and, to my great suprise, literally begged for the book, saying she wanted to finish it anyway...which she did. Like I said, irresistible. :-P

Right now I'm reading Hugh Laurie's The Gun Seller. Very funny and entertaining, a fine way to relax my brain after all the literary classic I've been reading lately.

I agree with you guys on long hard road, I must have lent my copy to every second person I knew (even those who weren't that into Manson) and not one of them could put it down.

I borrowed Coraline by Neil Gaiman, from the local library, and finished it last night, and found that seriously enjoyable. I'm slowly making my way through his workes, but not restricting myself to either novels or graphic novels!
Also finished Marabou Stork Nightmares by Irvine Welsh. Really twisted (but what else do you expect) & fantastically unique. A lot of people have said they liked this more than Trainspotting, and I can see why they would say that, but I probably wouldn't go that far myself.

New book I started this morning is Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, by Christopher Moore. Only a few chapters in, but it's one of the funniest (not like, darkly/sickeningly funny) books I've read in a long time.

Couldn't agree more. Not only is it very funny, but it makes a number of good points. Thought provoking AND funny, what more could you want?

I read Coraline last year and loved it, I hope the film version lives up.
Lamb is one of my favorite books. I love Christopher Moore, Bloodsucking Fiends and A Dirty Job were great too, to me anyway.

I just finsished Neal Stephenson's new book, Anathem. Goddamn, that was long. It was deep too- I'm going to have to reread it to understand just what theme he was trying to convey. Then I'll see it and how it was brilliantly conveyed, and come away with a faint sense of stupidity.

I love Stepehnson so much.

09/19/08 8:57 PM

Just finished 'Dune Messiah', a worthy sequel to a true classic. Next up is Terry Pratchetts new one, 'Nation'. Can't wait!

I'm just about to start the autobiography of Anthony Kiedis, "Scar Tissue".

I've heard great things about it.

i've just read "dance dance dance" and "norwegian wood" by haruki murakami.
two of the best books ever read.
really.

i've also re-read 1984 by Orwell, because there are so many orwellian visions in NIN's songs.

09/20/08 1:30 PM

*Phantom by Susan Kay (favorite for 16 years)
*Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind
*Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton (even thought the more recent additions have been slightly disappointing and lacking in plot and character development)

09/20/08 5:36 PM

Started A.J. Jacobs' The Year of Living Biblically today. It's pretty funny so far.
