^^ I can't find that anywhere near me, but I've really wanted to read it for a long time.

Finally finished the Orwell essay collection. Fantastic writing, even though the subjects were occasionally dated, his points certainly weren't.
Currently re-reading Neuromancer & remembering just how much I enjoy it!

Have started reading The Glass Books Of The Dream Eaters, by G. W. Dahlquist. I'm enjoying it. It's similar to Jonathan Strange And Mr. Norrell.

I've given up on Stranger in a Strange Land for now. It was good, but it isn't the kind of novel I am in the mood for right now.. Shouldn't of read so many vampire books back to back ha. I'm probably going to go and read Frankenstein instead. I've read it so many times, it never gets old. Then after that I'm reading A Clockwork Orange for the millionth time.
Maybe I'll just reread a bunch of favorites right now..

And for my English class I just started to read:
http://www.campusbookstore.com/image.aspx?isbn=9780805088380&size=Large
Its incredibly interesting I think, but it is such an incredibly slow read.

I'm finally about half done with book seven of The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I've been reading these goddamn books for almost a year. It NEVER takes me this long to read anything, especially Stephen King.

My problem is that once I'm done with this series I have so many other books to read, I have no clue what to read next

11/11/09 7:43 PM

Since you are on book 7 I assume you like those books lol.

I love everything by Stephen King, except for those books. I tried to read them, I've read the first three multiple times and I just can not like them at all sad smiley

11/12/09 2:43 PM

i just read 'stiff: the curious lives of human cadavers'

good read. informative as well.

11/12/09 4:21 PM

Currently reading The Associate by John Grisham...not bad. Am debating whether to get the new book by Stephen King now or wait until it comes out in paperback...
Would also recommend anything else by King or Terry Pratchett.

They really are a lot different from everything else he does. Oddly enough though, different things more than half of his other books and stories (names, plots, products/businesses) are mentioned throughout The Dark Tower saga. They're his Lord of the Rings, which he actually says himself, but I disagree, and here's why...

I actually like The Dark Tower, as opposed to hating the living piss out of Lord of the Rings. THAT'S the difference grinning smiley

The first two Dark Tower books are a bit hard to get through, but the remaining ones are SO well worth it. I tried to make Song of Susannah last as long as I could....great read.

Stephen King just released his latest, Under the Dome, yesterday; it is over 1,000 pages and I cannot WAIT to start it.

Pain Killers Jerry Stahl, pretty quick moving and really fun and crazy. Like Palahniuk a but

Well knowing the first two are the hardest maybe I shall try again. Yay people giving me inspiration to read!
I'm so excited to read Under the Dome, I really really hope I get it for Christmas. I seem to like his long books the best. I LOVED Insomnia. I think I need to buy that one, I've gotten that out of the library so many times.

And I got home for the weekend from college and so far have decided to take three books back- Catcher in the Rye, A Clockwork Orange and Palahniuk's Choke. I'm contemplating bringing more though.. I go through these books so fast.

I finished The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova not too long ago and now I've picked up The Living Dead. It's an anthology of zombie short fiction from King, Barker, Gaiman and a lot of others; so far, so good.

I'd suggest The Historian, too, if you have a long attention span. It gets into a lot of detail about the specific locales the characters see (appropriate given the the title, I guess) but it's a good spin on the classic Dracula tale. It's filled with historical facts of the real Vlad Tepes and mixes them with vampire mythology. It comes across as a very mainstream fiction novel but if you're a horror nerd you should appreciate the facts with the myth.

The Stand was my favorite for the longest time, but Insomnia is now #1. I recommend it to everyone, even non-King readers; it's just such an epic story. For awhile, I was hoping it would be made into a movie, but I don't think his books translate well to the big screen. I'm 230 or so pages into Under the Dome, so far it's great.

p.s....I've read all three books you've mentioned...have you ever read Palahniuk?

11/16/09 9:39 PM

Ohhhh and I just finished The Long Hard Road Out of Hell - (M.Manson bio)...and it confirmed my suspicions.

I thought Insomnia would be amazing on the screen too, but I thought the same thing. Too long though =(
But this is my plan.. lol graduate college buy the writes make a mini series. Ha like that will ever happen.

And yes I have read Palahniuk, I love him so much.
My favorite novel by Palahniuk book is always changing, but at the moment it may be Rant closely followed by Choke.
Those three books are just re reads, I've ran out of money so I'm not getting any new books until Christmas time.

Hey, ya never know...

Ok I was just wondering if you had read CP, cause if you hadn't I was going to forewarn you of his brilliant insanity. He's not for everyone.

I finally finished The Dark Tower sage two days ago, and I'm elated. Thoke fucking books took me almost a year to read smiling smiley

Anyway, now I'm reading Let The Right One In. Started it about half an hour after I finished Dark Tower, and I'm already half through it. Excellant book- very, very different from any vampire book I've ever read

11/17/09 11:47 AM

Nickel and Dimed is a fascinating read. I read that back in 2004.
Just finished the Patrick Swayze book, "The Time of My Life". Never a big fan, the book has given me a deeper appreciation of the man, pretty awesome guy. Really, it's the story of a great marriage. My girlfriend picked it up and i read it last weekend. I thought it was a very honest memoir, bittersweet, yet inspirational as well. He had an amazing life. Glad i read it.

11/17/09 4:57 PM

Ok, I am boring. I am rereading "The Witching Hour." It's been 19 years since I last read it. I really enjoyed reading Anne Rice at that time.

I'm near the end of a book of short stories by Kafka. It gave me nightmares last night. Beautiful, beautiful nightmares. Next, I shall be reading Dostoevski's Crime and Punishment. yayz. [I heartz Dostoevski]

11/19/09 1:13 AM

Just finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. Pretty decent read, fun and short. somewhat thought-provoking. Neat android killer action/sci-fi book.

Onto Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass next!

11/19/09 5:11 PM

Reading Rapture, by Carol Ann Duffy at the moment. Love it, love it, love it!!

11/20/09 7:00 AM

I just finished The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid.

http://bokfokus.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/reluctant.jpg

I'd definitely recommend it. It's written in the style of a dramatic monologue all throughout -- like hearing one side of a conversation. Literally. smiling smiley

I finally decided on reading this:

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n11/n55285.jpg

For the past week I've been switching the books I want to read.. I think I need new books.

I have a huge list of things I want to read, maybe I'll go to a library eventually.
