I knew very little about this game during its development, and only recently read some reviews when it was released because it scored well. It looks like something that would be right up my alley; i love the "loot collecting" aspect of games like Diablo, Dungeon Siege, etc, but find them frightfully boring to play, and think a title that could successfully incorporate the whole loot collecting/character customization aspect into a solid action game would be a ton of fun to play(and only moreso because of the co-op aspect).

Despite all the other awesome titles out right now(Halo ODST, Demon's Souls, Uncharted) or coming out soon(Tekken, Ratchet, CoD:MW2, etc.), i may yet pick this up. If i do, it'll be for PS3, primarily because i have more friends on PS3 who might be persuaded to buy it as well.

I've played this game for 15 hours in 2 days. what does that tell you? grinning smiley

lol extremely. i thought about it all day at work today.

the game freaking rocks. it blends the action RPG/FPS very nicely. combat is quick and intense. ive been playing it 2 player split screen, which sucks for FPS's of course cause you can't see half the shit around you. i haven't tried the online multiplayer, but my understanding is its up to four players online (but you can't split screen it), they match you with people of your level, and the enemies get harder with more people.

the four classes you choose from have different skills that you can level up and i am absolutely IN LUV with the whole 'random loot' its got goin on. i used to play a lot of Champions of Norrath back in my PS2 days, this game has a lot of similarities to it. i haven't played Diablo (i know, shoot me now) or Dungeon Siege, so I'm not sure how they might be similar past the random loot feature. The only character customization it has is that you get to customize 3 different parts of your character with colors (so you can make a hot-pink brute if you really want tongue sticking out smiley)

IT ROCKS! GET IT NOW!!

10/27/09 12:37 AM

Ha ha, i was just being a wise ass. All NIN fans are pale and sickly.

Norrath wasn't too bad; games like that and D & D Heroes for XBOX were at least a little more action oriented than games like Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights, etc. In those games, you basically just chose an action(or queued up a number of them), clicked on an enemy, and watched your character run up to the monster and hack and slash until it eventually croaked. Customization was great, but "playing" those games was like watching a really lame adventure movie: great if you have an MST3K riff track to go with it, but not so much without.

10/31/09 7:24 AM

In the past couple of days i've been playing every time my friend and i have free time. (aka, not at work) With the exception of a few serious bugs, including having one of the worst online interfaces i've ever seen, the game is amazing. Average gaming sessions last several hours, until someone realizes "oh my god i have to go to the bathroom! ahhhhh!"

And the loot is priceless.
Sniper rifles that set bad guys on fire, Shotguns that fire miniature rockets, grenades that explode into more grenades... every time you open a chest with something glowing blue, purple, or orange inside, you get excited to see what wild feature it has.

Definitely the best multiplayer experience of the past year or two, once you learn how to use online properly. This game is gonna give L4D2 a serious run for its money.

11/02/09 10:48 PM

Ordered my copy over the weekend; expect to be online within the next few days. PSN ID is same as my username here, if anyone wants to add me, though i'm usually only on late(after midnight EST).

11/03/09 1:28 PM

Im extremely pleased with the game.

11/03/09 6:41 PM

played the unholy hell out of it in co-op mode...the hours melt away with this one.

11/04/09 1:46 PM

i understand they've been getting on fixing those online bugs. i haven't even tried the online yet, hopefully they'll all be fixed soon.

11/05/09 7:14 AM

I played it online the other day with my gf...it didnt seem to really have that many bugs and i was playing a pirated copy even worse for me.. Uh it seemed like for me that its basically an MMO shooter... Good fun with a group but by yourself dont even do it.

11/06/09 11:36 PM

Been playing for the last few days, and it's a lot of fun. Haven't gone online yet, and though i imagine it's even more fun if you can throw two or three friends together for a co-op run, the game is still plenty of fun to solo.

I found a shotgun that fires rockets. Really. In the description, it says, "Holy crap--it shoots rockets!"

11/10/09 4:02 PM

sweeet.

they'll be releasing an expansion on Nov. 24.

The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned

looks like fun so far, but the $9.99 price tag pisses me off.

Art style is brilliant.

The engine is well optimized (it is, after all, based on Unreal tech) runs well on something that didn't cost you 5k last month.

The combat game play is as visceral as COD4. Remember in Diablo - you hit a guy with a fuckin blunt object and it sounds like a fuckin blunt object? The timing, everything - perfect? This game has that in the FPS world.

The characters are well defined and hilarious.

This is primarily a co-op game. Play it with your buddies and remember what it felt like when you brought home that floppy disk with the doom demo on it. I would sit around in art class in middle school and draw the 'doom' logo on random disks. This is the first game in a long time that I think about even close to that much when I'm not actually playing it.

Buy it, reward these guys for the hard work and play the shit out of it.

Finished my first playthrough, ending up around level 38 or 39. Started a new playthrough, hosted an online game, and had a blast with a bunch of strangers. It gets pretty crazy with four people playing; the enemies they throw at you are tough as nails. You do get some awesome drops and experience, though: i went up three levels over the course of that playthrough, and got a shotgun with 135x11 damage.

"Ninjas" who play the siren chick and use their speed advantage to run around and loot the treasures as they drop(or the chests, for that matter) are kind of a pain in the ass; i encountered two of those already.

Once i get my first character(soldier) up to level 50, however, it'll probably be the girl i try next. Though it's pretty gratifying to watch a berserker pound the crap out of enemies with his bare fists.

Finally got to level 50 in the early hours of the morning...also got all the achievements! Anyone got the Zombie Island DLC yet?

Congrats on the achievements, I haven't even hit level fifty yet but it doesn't help that I'm working on 3 different characters. tongue sticking out smiley

Got the Zombie DLC, just got done playing it for around 3 hours. Its pretty sweet, freaking zombies everywhere. Since they don't shoot guns, the makers gave the zombies certain advantages like spitting acid, spawning out of just about everywhere, and plenty of darkness so its hard as hell to see them; half the time I'm looking down at my compass just to track the red dots and shoot at the shadows.

My favorite zombie would have to be the Loot Goon, as the red weapon chest on his back has me gunnin for him.

I like the fact that the enemies are scaled to your level, so you can play it literally anytime, just port from the New You Station, even if you haven't activated Fast Travel yet.

I got my ass kicked a few times. But I got some hella good weapons too.

11/26/09 5:41 PM

The art style is very, very innovative. I just couldn't help but feel like the missions got a little repetitive. Granted, I only rented it and put about 20 hours of gameplay into it and got to level 18. Or possibly I've just been spoiled by Bethesda and was expecting something on the same ground as Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls.

New DLC announced.

Looks like release date for XBOX is Dec. 29, PS3 Jan. 7

Looks awesome!

Can't wait for the bank and the extra skill points.

It also looks like logging into two accounts on the PS3 won't be coming out for awhile (if ever), but Gearbox is looking into it.

12/17/09 6:31 PM

So I picked up the game and it's pretty awesome. BUT!! I tried hosting a private game with a buddy of mine and our signals kept getting timed out. We had no problems with other games and such but for some reason, Borderlands wont let us play together. What's the dilly deal yo?

12/23/09 4:11 PM

You need to make sure you have all the proper TCP/UDP ports forwarded.

Keep in mind there are two places you might have to do this: your home NAT (router) as well as the PC you are on if, say you're running Windows Firewall.

Here is a link to the Steam users forum that talks about the ports you'll need to forward:

Now go get some crits.

Borderland's Network play is awful! In order for me and a group of friends to be able to connect for the first time, every time, we had to use the following:

1) Hamachi (To create our own private network)
2) ForceBindIP (To force Borderlands to use the IP address given to you by Hamachi)

I got this game for Christmas. ...I think it's a little bit of a letdown. My buddy and I played about an hour or two of co-op splitscreen. ...There's a cool art style and some other neat stuff, but the gameplay is like something from the 1990's. The enemies run straight at you, you have to backtrack like crazy, which gets old real fast, and all the loot "feels" similar, even though it's really not. ...I'll probably trade this in towards Mass Effect 2 or else ebay it and try to get a good $40 for it, if it's going for that much.

I totally agree with dolemite. I'm a hardcore player of RPG's, WoW, Diablo 2, NWN, Mass Effect, Torchlight, etc. I figured this would be something I could easily get into because it's right up my alley and got great reviews but I was horribly let down. The whole game just feels unpolished and clumsy.

The loot system is absolutely awful. There is nothing stopping someone from picking up a weapon that would benefit your class more than theirs. Perhaps a need before greed system such as in WoW would help fix this.

One thing I will credit them on is the fact they released this game without ANY DRM. Seriously, You can go pirate the PC version and play it online right beside those who actually purchased it. That's REALLY ballsy of them to do that.

01/11/10 8:12 PM

Yea, my biggest complaints are the backtracking and loot system. There's over 100,000 guns, but they mostly feel similar to me. I'd prefer a smaller amount of really unique weapons that are highly upgradeable. The backtracking is ridiculous, especially with how a lot of the basic enemies respawn constantly. I mean, the game doesn't suck, but for me it didn't really live up to the hype at all.
