It arrived this morning, fully refurbished! grinning smiley

I also got a few games too, including Megaman 1 & 4 castlevania 1,2 and 3. Only problem is, I don't have any controllers yet! sad smiley

Any suggestions on some classic games from our childhoods?

12/17/09 11:48 AM

Bubble Bobble. It'll assfuck you.

12/17/09 7:02 PM

Metroid. Absolute necessity.

And see if you can snag Duck Hunt with an original NES Zapper gun.

12/17/09 9:07 PM

Duck Hunt owns grinning smiley

12/17/09 9:45 PM

Super Mario Bros 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12/18/09 1:43 AM

I'm so jealous. 'Cause now you can play the early Zelda games.

Essentially just go to this site, racketboy.com, for any good retro gaming guides and advice.

Here's a list of games for the NES including:

- Games that defined the console
- Cheapest good games
- Underrated gems

I use it all the time.

Happy gaming!

Thanks for the link, this website seems pretty cool.

Super Mario Bros 3 is in the pipeline, but I'm still controllerless! Stupid Christmas post delays! looking at title screens gets boring quickly hehe.

All I can recall is certain formula

Productivity != (nachos + coca cola + videogames)friday

XD

Bionic Commando
Mega man 2,3 (throw away 1,4 -- esp 1)
SMB 3
Marble Madness

Zelda 2 is good -- but anyone who doesn't remember it won't like it.

I challenge you to complete Castlevania 2 without using the Internet for help.

Did you actually go to the expense of getting an original NES? You know about wii-ware right?

12/18/09 1:41 PM

I want a NES. Lucky you for getting one thats awesome. As for games I recommend trying to find Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and A Boy and His Blob.

12/18/09 2:12 PM

Marble Madness definitely.

And Burger Time, Rampage, Dragon Warrior.

And R.C. Pro-Am, Excite Bike, Tecmo Bowl, Pro Wrestling, Punch-Out!, Rad Racer.

Yeah...there's a few.

Buying a second hand NES is a lot cheaper than buying a Wii, if he doesn't already own one, and i'd be willing to bet you can buy most common NES carts on eBay for about the same price as the Virtual Console downloads, if not less.

That said, i second all of these choices, as well as the aforementioned Metroid, SMB3 and TMNT 2, and add a few of my own:

Star Tropics
Gradius/Lifeforce
(Mike Tyson's) Punch Out
Double Dragon 2
Battletoads
Blaster Master

Fair warning: the last two on the list are HAAAARD! I beat them both when i was a kid, but don't know if i'd have the skill/patience to do it again today...

Well, it wasn't that expensive, was only £25 delivered, this was for the console only, and it's mint & has a brand new 72 pin connector. I use my SNES power supply, and the AV cables are just standard RCA cables. £5 for the control pad (which still hasn't arrived!) So came to less then the RRP of a new release for a PS3 or 360 game winking smiley

A mate of mine was having a clear out and gave me a load of games for free:

Castlevania
Castlevania: Simons Quest
Castlevania: Dracula's Curse
Solar Jetman
Double Dragon II
Double Dragon III
Tetris
Mega Man
Mega Man IV
Super Mario Bros
Top Gun
Marble Madness

Plus, it's more nostalgic, seriously haven't played one since about 1994 haha.

Oh just as a note. If you value any friendship of any sort. DO NOT play Battletoads with two people. You will be reduced to swapping blows in mere seconds!

Also if you want something a bit different then try Crystalis!

damn my system crapped out a few years ago. It is the only system that I love to play games on. I would kill to have another one. Is there lots on ebay? I miss spending an hour blowing on games before playing.

I'm sure there are plenty of old NES consoles floating around on eBay, but bear in mind reliability on a piece of hardware 25 years old can be an issue. You could always opt to just buy one of these; i can't speak for them personally, but reviews are generally fairly favorable, albeit with some mentions of occasional graphic/sound hiccups and a small number of incompatible titles.

I've heard these are pretty good, The NES I got is refurbished, with a brand new 72 pin connector, so it's like new, and at £25, it was really cheap! But Yes, the NES was not the most reliable of consoles,

I want Gyromite with ROB the robot. ebay rapes people with this item if its still in the box, redonkulous.

I remember an awesome Mickey Mouse game on SNES. Magical Quest or something like that, maybe? I remember there were different themed Mickeys for the various stages; one had a fire fighter, and you got to spray down baddies with a hose. It was tons of fun.

Wow! That's a fucking bargain. Especially for a refurbished one!

Oh I also back Blaster Master for being an awesome game! It's hard but it's great fun!

Mega Man 3
